Silence ensued. It was so thick that a knife could cut through it. Everyone was taken aback by the incident.
"Pervert." Olivia muttered under her breath.
"Pervert." The word echoed in her ears.
’Pervert? Why does the word sound so familiar?’ she wondered, but she quickly shoved the feeling down her mind.
Lucian stood there, his breath still uneven, heart pounding from the whirlwind of emotions. Olivia’s fist had left a dull ache on his cheek, but it wasn’t the pain that hurt the most. It was the way she looked at him afterward—confused, distant... betrayed.
"Olivia..." he stepped forward, voice low.
But she spun on her heels without a word, her green eyes steeled with sothing unreadable. Disappointnt? Regret? Whatever it was, it sliced through him sharper than any blade.
She stord off, her boots thudding against the marble hallway, leaving Lucian frozen in place, hurt and confused. He didn’t understand what had gone wrong. He never ant to overstep... never ant to lose control.
A low chuckle sounded from behind him.
Klaus.
"Well, that was pathetic," Klaus sneered, stepping into the space Olivia had just vacated. "You thought one kiss would change everything? You really don’t know her."
Lucian’s jaw clenched, his fists tightening at his sides.
"Watch it," he muttered, eyes narrowing.
"Or what?" Klaus leaned in, his voice dropping to a whisper. "You’ll burn too? You really think she’ll choose you? You don’t belong here, Lucian. You’re just another mistake she’ll regret."
Lucian said nothing. But the fire in his gaze flared.
Klaus scoffed and turned around. "I’ll go get what’s mine."
He took off down the hall after Olivia, his boots echoing with each step. He found her a few corridors down, near the courtyard exit, hands clenched at her sides, chest rising with every sharp inhale.
Olivia didn’t know why she was angry at him, it’s not like he forced his way on her. He had asked if she wanted to kiss and she stupidly said yes. She wasn’t angry at him but at herself for being so shallow. She didn’t even have the right to hit him.
But how the hell was she supposed to face him? She nervously scratched the back of her neck. Why does she always like to get herself into one trouble or another?
"You’re really sothing, you know that?" Klaus said, his voice low but venomous. "Running off like that after everything."
She didn’t turn to face him. "What do you want, Klaus?" Her voice was completely devoid of emotion.
"What do I want?" He stepped closer, too close. "I want you to stop acting like none of this matters. You’re playing with fire, Olivia— You know I know your secret. What do you think will happen if I tell the instructors that you are the one they have been searching for?"
At that, she slowly turned to face him. Her eyes glinted with challenge.
"You an we," she said sharply. "You were with . If I go down, so do you."
Klaus’s jaw twitched. "You wouldn’t."
"Try ."
Klaus grabbed her hand, a little too tight. His face inches from hers. "Rember our deal, you will be my girlfriend and I will keep your secret. But you went around kissing a total stranger? Was it his pretty face that stunned you? Huh? I never knew you were that shallow."
"I have been running for hours, searching for you, I even thought... you died, and when I found you, you were in another man’s arms." His throat tightened, his grip on her arms tightening.
Olivia hissed in pain. She tried to pull away, but he pulled her closer. A malicious glint flashed through his eyes, it was so fast that Olivia missed it.
Olivia felt a sting in her heart. She was just called a cheat. Her fist clenched. "Don’t try to guilt trip , Klaus. We both know it won’t work. Let’s make a new deal," she proposed.
Klaus’ eyes danced with an unreadable feeling. "I refuse. You have nothing else to offer , I only want you."
Just then, before Olivia could refute, the system’s interface flickered before her eyes.
[SYSTEM ALERT: Mission ti remaining – 55 Hours, 02 Minutes]
Her stomach twisted. The countdown wasn’t slowing. And now Klaus was threatening everything.
"You think you can control with fear, Klaus?" Olivia stepped forward, their faces re inches apart. "You’re not the only one with secrets."
"Oh, do you think you can find anything on ?" His presence beca overbearing.
Olivia glared at him. In as much as she wanted to be free from his clutches, for now she had nothing against him. Even though he was with her when she discovered the school’s secret, his father is one of the higher-ups. She would be shooting herself in the foot. If this got out, he would go unscathed.
She would wait. ’It is better to have more allies than enemies’. All she needed was one crack in his perfect image. Then she’d take control. But until then, she would use him as a shield in this hellish school, but she will never be under his control. ’Patience, Olivia.’ She reminded herself..
She scoffed. "You are right. How could there be anything on you? I an, you are the role model that every student looks up to."
"Why does that sound sarcastic?" he asked, eyes narrowed.
"I’m only praising you," she said, "You’re just overthinking it." She forced a smile on her face. After a while, her eyes flickered. "Fine, I will agree to your request, but I will only be your half girlfriend. Take it or leave it."
"Hell no." he groaned.
"Then let’s go to the headmaster’s office. You’ll get rewards for finding this spy that has been a pain in their ass," she said, her face cold and stern. Behind her calm exterior, chaos was brewing inside. Deep down, her heart was beating erratically, threatening to jump out of its cage. Fear and panic flooded through her veins.
But if she didn’t take control now, she’d always be his pawn. And she refused to be anyone’s pawn.
