As they got inside Stefan’s office, Olivia imdiately opened her hands, standing to her feet. anwhile, Stefan cautiously walked towards the window, peeking outside to see if the leader was still there. He unknowingly let out a sigh of relief when he saw that he was gone. He walked back towards where Lucian and Olivia were standing.

He stared at Olivia, his gaze stern and intimidating. "Do you think you can do whatever pleases you in the school?"

Olivia looked away, unsure how to tell him how Freya had stolen the organ she had harvested. An organ that was supposed to be used to save Lucian, but because of her act, she had almost lost Lucian.

Her gaze flicked to Lucian, who had also been staring at her. "I’m sorry," she muttered, staring at her feet.

"Sorry?" Stefan scoffed. "If I didn’t know you any better, I would have said that you are really sorry. You fought with your sister knowing fully well that you will be departing for your mission very soon. You should have used this ti to train, yet you were busy depleting your energy."

"She stole sothing important from ."

"I never asked you what happened, Olivia." He imdiately shut her up.

"Do you know you have attracted too many eyes to yourself in just a few months since you have been in the academy?"

Olivia bowed her head lower. She knew she had been nothing but trouble lately, but these were things that happened without her control.

"Stay here for a couple of hours before you go out," Stefan said before storming out of the door. He was just too annoyed and really didn’t want to say anything more to her.

"How am I at fault when I was the one who was wronged?" Olivia’s cracked voice echoed through the room as she fought not to shed a tear.

Lucian stared at her, unsure how to comfort her.

"I wonder why I always disappoint the people around . Am I that awful?" she sniffled.

"But I was the one who was wronged," she walked further to the center of the room. She wondered why nothing seed to be working for her. Others gained power without shedding much blood, but why did she always have to leave a trail of blood behind whenever she was going to level up?

Why did she always cause harm to the people around her? And why couldn’t she get the love she desired from her loved ones? Why her? Why?

A drop of tear flowed down her cheek. Why must she follow the hard path? Why must she leave destruction in her path? Why was she marked by chaos? She couldn’t even be with the one she loved.

More tears stread down her eyes. She just felt hollow, too empty to call herself a human, too sad to live a life that pleased her, too cursed to be with the ones she loved. Now, she was only obsessed with power, believing that it was the only thing that could fill up her hollow heart.

She imdiately froze when she felt strong arms around her waist. The warmth, the assurance that she wasn’t alone, and that she was safe made her want to crumble down. But she steeled herself, willing herself not to show any more weakness.

She wanted to ignore the butterflies in her belly. She wanted to forget how safe she was in his arms, she wanted to forget how comfortable she felt being held by him.

"Don’t push away, Olivia. Let be your support." Lucian’s warm breath fanned against her chest, sending shivers down her spine.

Hearing his hoarse voice, she rembered when she thought she was going to die from the frost fox monster, her wishes and regrets. Her fingers hovered above his arms. Should she drag him into her hell? Was it worth it for her own selfish gain?

For once, she wanted to enjoy this feeling. ’Fine, I will let him hold for just a few monts, only today and no more. It is better to die in regret than to let him die because of , because of my bad luck,’ she thought inwardly.

She closed her eyes, her shoulders relaxing, leaning more into his embrace, her head resting against his chest.

Lucian closed his eyes, his heart glad that she was opening up to him. But why did it feel like she was slipping away through his fingers like sand? No matter how he tried to push away the feelings, he just couldn’t.

......

Dawn ca with a cheerful smile. The sun graciously shone with so much vibrancy and energy. The birds chirped and sang beautifully in the sky, flying freely and gracefully in the air.

But below this beautiful and wonderful energy stood about 18 students dressed in black pants and jackets. With weapons and guns hanging around their pockets, they were right at the fortress’ gate.

They stood in a straight line, hands behind their backs, faces stern and cold.

"Listen up, Squad Beta. You have an important mission as soldiers. Lives have been detected in the ruined city, and your job is to bring them safely to the fortress. This is not going to be an easy task, so of you might not return. But we hope most of you will make it back." Stefan’s voice echoed powerfully across the air.

"So we have decided to do a favor for you all. You will et your loved ones before you depart." As they heard his words, most of the students shone with hope.

However, Olivia’s face turned grim. ’Family,’ she didn’t have any more.

"Freya, Olivia," ca a familiar voice, a voice she detested and at the sa ti longed for so much. As Olivia turned around, she saw her mother and father racing towards them.

She stood frozen, not knowing how to react to them. This was their first eting after they had sent her into the monster’s domain.
