Leah went ho while Sunshine remained back to welco the last squad from Kingsbridge that delivered the last of the beacons.

She got into her car and sent them all to the space. Furthermore, she went into the space and tossed all the beacons into the fire. The threat of summoning beasts was gone_ at least from fortress. The exercise was officially considered a roaring success.

She did not drive ho after that. Sunshine opted to wait for Hades, and they walked back toward the residential district together. They were both tired, the adrenaline of the day finally beginning to fade into a dull ache in their joints. As they passed a small, brightly lit ice cream shop, the sweet, sugary scent of toasted waffle cones wafted through the air.

"Ice cream?" Sunshine suggested, tilting her head toward the neon sign. "I could use sothing sweet and cold."

Hades stopped, looking at the shop with the sa intensity he usually reserved for tactical maps. "It is... an acceptable reward for a successful operation. High glucose intake is necessary for recovery."

"Spoken like a true romantic," Sunshine teased.

They spent a good ten minutes inside the shop, with her agonizing over the choice between salted caral and wild berry, while Hades stood perfectly still until the teenager behind the counter asked for his order.

"Double dark chocolate. No sprinkles. Sprinkles are inefficient, as my son says." Hades stated with a smile.

Sunshine licked her lips. "Blue berry swirl too.... big size. It’s for my bear."

The teenage boy cheered up. "For White, you should have told so." Everyone was aware of the bear’s love for ice cream. Every day, it passed by the shop for a free con.

They strolled toward ho, licking their cones. The evening air was cooling down since the crypto kinetics were planting large ice bars in the compound. The first few stars were beginning to peek through the twilight.

"You know," Sunshine said, glancing at Hades sideways. "Oh crap, Ariel and I have a date."

Hades froze mid-lick. He slowly turned his head toward her, a single droplet of lting dark chocolate threatening to fall on his hand. He didn’t say anything at first, but his eyebrows shot up toward his hairline. "A date?" he finally repeated, his voice dropping into a low, mock-indignant rumble. "Why him? When last did you take out for a date."

"Are you jealous, Hades?" Sunshine giggled, nudging him with her elbow.

"I an.....not really, can I co?" Hades said stiffly, though he was now eating his ice cream with a sudden, aggressive speed.

"No sweetie, you cannot." Sunshine wiped his lips with her finger.

In a comical way, similar to White, he sulked!

The mont they stepped through the front door, Hades decided that if he had to suffer with this information, everyone else did too. He didn’t even wait to take off his boots. "Attention!" he announced to the living room, his voice booming with the authority of a town crier. "I have an announcent. Ariel has a date with Mummy tonight without the rest of us."

The reaction was instantaneous.

Castiel, who had been sprawled on the sofa playing with Octi, dropped it directly on the ground. He sat up, his expression one of pure, unadulterated betrayal. Castiel took great pride in being the most ’loved’ of the children, and he preferred to think he was Sunshine’s unspoken favorite.

"A date?" Castiel asked, his voice cracking slightly. "Why is that? I do not like that mummy is going to spend ti with just Ariel. I am her special baby."

"Yeah" Earl shouted, jumping up from the rug where he’d been playing with his doctor set. "I don’t like it either. I may not be a baby, but I am special."

In the corner of the room, White, let out a long, low, mournful whine. He sat on his haunches, his giant head drooping between his front paws. He looked like a three-ton mountain of pure, concentrated pout.

"Oh, co on, you guys!" Sunshine laughed, throwing her hands up in the air. "It’s just one night! I promise that everyone_ including the white_ will get their turn. It’s a rotating schedule of affection!"

Castiel raised his hands high up. "Then I am next and I want a whole day."

She walked over to the corner where White was sulking and began vigorously tickling his massive, fur-covered belly. The bear’s legs started to twitch, and he let out a series of huffing, chortling sounds_ the bear equivalent of a belly laugh.

"You big baby!" Sunshine laughed as White suddenly reached out, scooped her up in a giant, furry hug, and lifted her off the floor. "Oh! White! You’re getting bigger every single day! I’m going to need a crane to lift you soon!"

The bear rumbled with contentnt, his pout forgotten as he gently set her back down, though he still gave her a wet, slobbery lick on the hand for good asure.

"I brought you ice cream." She whispered.

His eyes lit up. He smirked when he looked at Ariel. It was like he was saying ’I got ice cream and you did not.’

Hades, still nursing his ’injured’ pride, grabbed Ariel by the back of his shirt_ gently, but firmly. "Co on son, let’s get you looking your best."

Ariel giggled as he was dragged toward the bedroom. "I want the blue shirt! The one that makes look like a captain!"

"We shall see," Hades muttered. "But no capes. I draw the line at capes for dinner."

Sunshine retreated to her own room to get ready. She spent a long ti looking through her wardrobe before settling on a ’sunny’ dress_ a vibrant, flowing yellow silk that seed to glow in the lamplight.

She took down her hair, which was usually tied back in a practical braid or a tight bun, and allowed it to flow over her shoulders in dark, soft waves.

When she erged from the room, even Castiel stared like he had seen an angel. "You look... beautiful," he bead.

Then ca Ariel. Hades had done an impressive job. The boy was wearing a miniature navy blazer, a crisp white shirt, and his blue hair was slicked back with enough pomade to survive a hurricane.

"Dad says I look like a gentleman!" Ariel announced, puffing out his chest so far, he nearly tipped over.

"And your mother looks like she just walked out of a fairy tale," Hades stares at her, wondering how he got so lucky.

Sunshine took Ariel’s small hand in hers. "Ready?"

"Ready!" Ariel shouted, his eyes wide with excitent.

They left the house before anyone could cry and tag along on their date. As she drove down the mountain, Ariel was a whirlwind of energy. He was bouncing in his seat; his nose pressed firmly against the window as the city lights blurred past.

"Where are we going, Mummy? Is it the movie theater? The one that has the giant popcorn buckets?"

"Nope," Sunshine said, a mysterious smirk playing on her lips.

"Is it the floral park in Silverdale? Are we going to see the flowers that glow in the dark?"

"Not tonight."

Ariel let out a dramatic groan, flopping back into the leather seat. "Mummy, you’re being a mystery! My brain is going to explode if you don’t tell !"

"Just watch the road, Ariel. We’re almost there."

They crossed the gates of Westbrook and the car turned away from the bustling comrcial districts. It began to climb the winding roads of the upper residential area.

Ariel grew quiet as the car slowed down. He watched as they pulled up to an apartnt building, he had been to before. "Oh no!" He whispered, to himself mostly.
