Hades’ question hung in the air like a verdict waiting for a gavel.

"Just think about it, Pink really loathes you for ruining all of her plans. It would not be surprising for her to be plotting sothing to bring you down." He added.

Sunshine didn’t answer right away. She had been thinking the sa thing since the system introduced the fever wasps and their abilities. Pink had been extrely angered by the Paula incident. If she was out for revenge, it was not shocking.

If they were sending fever wasps that mainly attacked leaders then, the motive was obvious. They wanted her gone. Not just her but the other people holding the base together.

Their death would an that the people would scatter and be left vulnerable, leaderless. It was a good plan--no, more than good, it was brilliant. It was a revelation of just how wise and cunning the watchers were.

Sunshine let out a short heavy sigh, rubbing her forehead. "If they’re coming for ," she said eventually, "then too bad for them. I plan to ruin every single one of their stupid plans."

Hades smiled faintly, pride mixing with concern. "That’s my girl.... but be extra cautious."

She touched his shoulder, worry in eyes. "Not just , you and everyone else that is in a leadership position. I don’t think that I am the only one that has been marked by them."

Hades nodded. "We have to warn everyone. I suppose Zulu should be put under so special parrot protection program too."

The system chid, interrupting the conversation. [I have returned with suitable solutions for the fever wasps after doing further research. Two, specifically, that can protect both the host and her territories.]

Sunshine straightened. "Let’s hear them."

The holographic map on the screen lit up with thin lines weaving across the borders of their territories. Hovering above the lines were tiny spheres.

[Solution one: the Laser Shielding Filant, a near-invisible sh that can surround the entire territory. When activated, it will shred anything that touches it.]

Sunshine blinked. "Anything?"

[Anything, Including animals... fever wasps...]

"And humans," Hades finished grimly.

[That is the con of this solution, they would be at risk too. But you can control your people and warn them to keep them from touching it. Or set up periters to prevent them from going near it.]

Sunshine and Hades exchanged a long look. This was dangerous. But they didn’t have a lot of options so they could not dismiss it just yet.

Hades was the first to speak. "We can handle the con; we will put up warnings to prevent humans from approaching. When the fever wasps are all dead, we take it down."

Sunshine nodded and shook her head like she was uncertain. "Children that cannot read will fall victim. We need to think about it carefully."

But the system wasn’t done. [I have another solution host, one that is much simpler. I recomnd you purchase Pyrexis Insect Cream. When applied, it emits a targeted repelling scent that fever wasps cannot stand.]

Sunshine blinked. "Wait... a cream?"

Hades clapped once, loudly. "Great. We’ll need boxes of it."

[It is not cheap,] the system warned.

Hades shrugged. "I don’t care. Money is not a problem. I am not going to let so bug bite my wife or anyone I love. So, will that be a cheque, cash, gold, diamonds. I don’t know what currency you take."

Sunshine cheered, throwing an arm around him. "Sotis even I forget that I’m a billionaire’s wife."

The system added dryly, [Thank you Hades for making my job easier. At least you do not insist on bargaining like your wife.]

Sunshine narrowed her eyes. "System—"

"Oh, honey it’s okay, we all know you are.....,"Hades began.

"[Stingy?] The system cut him off.

"System!" Sunshine shouted

[The price list for the cream varieties and cost has been provided. Alert when you decide on how you are going to pay.] The screen went blank.

Hades laughed.

Sunshine continued to sulk. It felt like they had ganged up together to make fun of her. She was not stingy like they claid, she was cost conscious. She did not believe in wasting money, especially because she did not grow up wealthy.

As for Hades, he did not know the difference between earth wealthy and alien wealthy, but he was about to learn. Maybe then he would join her on the cost-conscious ship.

"So, this is the source of your amazing tech." He stood up and leaned against the worktable. "So, what exactly is it?" He looked at her curiously, trying to analyze the system, the space and how it all tied in with the mysterious worlds she visited.

She shrugged. "I don’t truly know, and I don’t think I ever will. But what matters is that it is helping us survive the apocalypse." She stood up slowly and took two steps to the right before coming to a stop in front of him. "Now you know my deepest secret."

Her pupils trembled slightly, darting between his gaze the tools on the table. Her mouth was pressed into a thin line that loosened and tightened again like a door she wasn’t sure should remain open.

He did not say a word, but he understood what she ant. She had been betrayed once. This was a test, to see if he could be trusted.

Hades did not bla her. If he had a space, system and all the other advantages she had, he would not tell a single soul. Human greed could not be undermined. But he was not greedy for it all. Besides, she was his wife, so what was his was hers and vice versa.

"Co on, I want to take you sowhere." He took her hand.

She sent them out of the space. He led her to their bedroom, a place she had been to many tis before. But what Hades did next startled her. He walked straight to a panel on the wall she’d never noticed before and placed his palm on it.

A soft beep.

A soft shift.

A door slid open.

One that Sunshine did not know existed. She stared at him in confusion. "What is this?"

Hades smirked. "Our secret room."

"Our?" She scoffed. "You have a secret room inside our bedroom?"

"Honey, are you seriously saying that you do not know this room? You have the real blueprints," he said, like it was obvious.

He stepped inside_ and Sunshine followed him. Her jaw dropped imdiately. The room was big. But what it contained was bigger than anything she had ever imagined.

Gold bars stacked like bricks. Silver lted into small slabs. Jewelry glittering under security lights. Shelves of ancient art pieces. Antiques worth more than houses. And several racks piled high with tightly bound stacks of cash. Sunshine lifted a hand to her mouth. It was like five apartnts combined.

"So, this is where you hid your stash." She whistled. "How rich are you? It is more than I was expecting."

Hades shrugged casually. "I don’t know. Rich enough."

"Rich enough?" she said, pointing dramatically. "There’s a small country’s GDP in here! How did I not know about this?"

"I told you about it, I guess my words just fly over your head," he replied simply.

Sunshine almost threw a shoe at him. She was certain that she would have rembered being told that she was sleeping next to billions worth of gold.

He continued without sha. "Also... this is our panic room. I ntioned it many tis before."

"When?!" she asked.

"Probably when you were not listening."

She groaned. "Hades Quinn, I swear_"

"And," he added, pointing deeper into the vault, "I have sixteen more apartnts elsewhere with the sa setup." He leaned down and whispered, "Hadrian has ten, Warren has five bunkers, my parents have two. Actually, I also have three bunkers and one large water tank that contains no water, just gold, cash and jewels."

Sunshine just stared at him blankly. "I think I married a golden toad."

Hades laughed.

Sunshine slapped her hands together. "Okay, golden toad husband. We need to buy that Pyrexis cream and the filant thingy."

Together they pulled several gold bars from the stacks and transferred them to the Space. Sunshine pinched her thigh when she realized that it did not make much of a dent in her husband’s secret bedroom stash.

"Dammit, he won’t learn the cost-conscious lesson." She said, pouting like a kid denied sugar.
