Mr. Zhu explained to in detail the beginning and the end of the destruction of the Fufeng Base.
Because the Fufeng Base had connections with , after the news of its destruction reached us, Mr. Zhu went out to collect more related information in the external world, and this matter had been his main focus this morning. However, most of these pieces of information ca from so of the survivors after the Fufeng Base was destroyed, inevitably missing a lot of deeper insights. When Mr. Zhu was presenting the situation to , he too found it difficult to comprehend so parts of it.
The incident happened on the night of the day I left the Fufeng Base. At that ti, Mazao and I had just been engulfed in the white mist atop the Moon Concealing Mountain, and had not yet killed the Ancient Moon God; while hundreds of kiloters away, the Fufeng Base was attacked by an external enemy force.
To call it a "force" might be an overstatent, because the representative of this external enemy that attacked was only one person.
Luo Mountain has three scourges, naly the Human Bureau, Taoyuan Village, and the widespread Xuanming believers inside and outside Luo Mountain. However, the person who ca to attack did not belong to any of these three scourges. At least that’s what he claid.
This mysterious figure was clad in a huge set of black armor, and his face was covered by a helt, making it impossible to see his true features. As soon as he appeared at the entrance of the base, he released overwhelming mana fluctuations. The majority of demon hunters inside the base were like being struck by a huge tidal wave, unable to stand or move, while officers who were less sensitive to mana fluctuations were still able to move freely.
Fufeng imdiately arrived at the scene and asked the mysterious figure, "Who goes there?"
"An Angel Envoy of the Void Realm, nad Xu Gou," the mysterious figure said. "On behalf of the Master of the Divine Seal, I have co to confiscate the Divine Seal Fragnt of this location."
As soon as the words were spoken, this mysterious figure nad Xu Gou launched his attack at Fufeng and the base building behind him. According to the analysis of the scene afterward, as well as alerts issued by Luo Mountain monitoring stations across the country, mana fluctuations at the level of Great Impermanence from a stranger were detected at the Fufeng Base that night.
When other demon hunters from different bases arrived later, what they found was a Fufeng Base that had been leveled to the ground, looking just like a milk carton that had been stomped flat. The fragnts of Fufeng’s dismbered body and the traces of eliminated residual souls were subsequently found in the ruins, confirming his complete demise.
However, a few powerful demon hunters did not die in this unexpected disaster, perhaps because the mysterious figure had no intention of killing everyone from the start. His target seed to be solely the Divine Seal Fragnts all along. Since there were survivors from the aftermath, he let them be.
And the Fufeng Base wasn’t the only one that was attacked by the self-proclaid Angel Envoy of the Void Realm that night.
Even another Luo Mountain branch base located a thousand miles away was subsequently struck by a Great Impermanence-level attack of an external enemy. The attacker there, however, was not Xu Gou, the unfamiliar Great Impermanence, but another figure all too familiar to Luo Mountain.
The one who appeared there was Xuanming.
However, unlike the Fufeng Base, this Luo Mountain branch base not only housed Great Success Rank Impersonators but also one of the Lushan Great Impermanence, "Jian Feixian." As soon as Xuanming, the "Luo Mountain Renegade," with his destructive mana fluctuations, made his presence known, Jian Feixian imdiately stepped forward and engaged him in combat without a word.
The battle between two Great Impermanence entities is far beyond the scope of ordinary demon hunters to witness; just being nearby could lead to annihilation. Even though the battlefield was promptly moved away from the branch base, half of the base was still destroyed by the aftermath. According to information Jian Feixian later revealed to those around him, he questioned Xuanming during the fight about his hostile intentions, to which Xuanming gave an incredible response.
"Currently, I serve the Void Realm, under the aegis of the Master of the Divine Seal, as his apostle," Xuanming was said to have responded. "My purpose is to enact the will of the Master of the Divine Seal and co to confiscate the Divine Seal Fragnt that is stored here at this base."
Upon hearing this, Jian Feixian’s imdiate reaction was, "How is that possible?"
Xuanming, once one of the Great Impermanence of Luo Mountain, was not subordinate to Luo Mountain. It sounded absurd to now claim he was in servitude to soone. Put in the context of the overt world, it was akin to one of the big five permanent mbers of the Security Council suddenly announcing they would acknowledge Atlantis as their sovereign state one day.
What, Atlantis actually exists? That must be a joke, right? Perhaps he had defected to an extraterrestrial civilization? That would be the normal first reaction.
And crucially, as a Great Impermanence entity, Jian Feixian was likely to be aware of the real existence of divine seals and to know more inside information. Therefore, the title of "Master of the Divine Seal" probably carried much more significance to him than to those oblivious.
"What... what is your true objective?" Jian Feixian asked.
Xuanming directly exploded with a sensational reply: "The purpose of the Master of Divine Seal is the destruction of this world, and we are the executors of its will."
"Ah?"
Jian Feixian seed to have heard a foreign tongue, montarily unable to comprehend.
"By the way, there are a total of seven Angel Envoys in the Void Realm, and among them, I am ranked only fourth," Xuanming said indifferently.
"What!"
Jian Feixian was shocked beyond asure, his movents in the skirmish uncontrollably slowed by a beat. Seizing the opportunity, Xuanming intensified his attack, blasting his opponent away into the distance, then turned and burst into the Sealing Chamber at the heart of the branch base.
After that, it is likely that he took away the Divine Seal Fragnt kept there, and Xuanming just vanished without a trace.
"The situation is roughly as I’ve told you."
Mr. Zhu laid out everything he knew; Zhu Shi seed to have heard about it from the start and showed no signs of surprise on his face.
Whereas Mazao and I were both shocked into speechlessness.
Setting Xuanming aside, that self-proclaid "Xu Gou" Angel Envoy from the Void Realm, no matter how I think about it, must be the number one. Considering Xu Gou had already been a candidate for Impermanence long ago, it makes sense that upon reappearing, he would have the power of the Impermanence.
I rembered the incidents during our last eting in the Void Realm. During my private communication with the Master of Divine Seal, number one Xu Gou and number four Xuanming seed to have had a secret exchange, as Little Bowl had told . At that ti, I had no idea what those two had discussed, but looking at the current bombshell news, one could guess a thing or two.
These two people actually conspired in secret to attack the Luo Mountain branch base and rob the Divine Seal Fragnt?
Xu Gou would have such motivation because he wanted to acquire knowledge concerning resurrection from the dead from the Master of Divine Seal, thus he had to secure at least one Divine Seal Fragnt. But why would Xuanming do this? Although he also wanted Divine Seal Fragnts, he shouldn’t be as desperate as Xu Gou. Moreover, even if he truly intended to attack the Luo Mountain branch base to rob a Divine Seal Fragnt, with his abilities, it wouldn’t have been necessary to collaborate with others.
Perhaps, the truth could be inferred from the information he disclosed externally.
The Master of Divine Seal had never ntioned that his goal was to destroy the world, nor had he ever publicly announced that we were his subordinates; and with Xuanming’s proud nature, it’s unlikely that he would admit to being subjugated to the Master of Divine Seal. This kind of external propaganda would also be of no advantage to Xu Gou. Yet Xuanming did so anyway, which ans he did it deliberately—he wanted to tarnish the Master of Divine Seal’s image, portraying him to the outside world as a Great Demon King intent on world destruction.
I can even guess the deal Xu Gou and Xuanming must have made in secret. Xu Gou likely wished to strike a deal with Xuanming, to exchange a Divine Seal Fragnt for sothing in the real world; while Xuanming didn’t directly trade his own Divine Seal Fragnt but instead told Xu Gou where one could be found.
The followers of Xuanming were scattered throughout Luo Mountain, and even though Xuanming was not currently in Luo Mountain, he likely had control over a vast amount of secret intelligence, including information that Fufeng Base was hiding a Divine Seal Fragnt. When he inford Xu Gou of this clue, he asked Xu Gou to join him in a play to expose the existence of the Void Realm and the Master of Divine Seal to Luo Mountain’s scrutiny.
This matter would not only bring no benefit to the Master of Divine Seal, but it would also invite a plethora of troubles out of thin air. No matter how powerful the Master of Divine Seal was, he was currently unable to intervene markedly in the real world, and if he wanted to truly resurrect and awaken, it would necessitate the gathering of Divine Seal Fragnts step by step through us, the Angel Envoys of the Void Realm. Now, even the difficulty of his resurrection and reawakening was set to rise substantially.
Should the Master of Divine Seal beco enraged and decide to tear apart the agreents made in the past, Xu Gou would have no way to obtain the knowledge he desired from the Master of Divine Seal. However, by doing so, it would equate to breaking faith in front of us, the Angel Envoys of the Void Realm. Xuanming likely used this reasoning to persuade Xu Gou with his rhetoric.
As Lushan Great Impermanence and also one of the Angel Envoys of the Void Realm, Divine Light surely could also see through Xuanming’s calculations. However, he seed to have no intention of going against Xuanming and did not step forward to publicly clarify this misunderstanding.
