The woman only revealed her eyes. When her eyes accidentally t with Zerra, she seed to be startled and lowered her head.

"Anita, who is this?" Zerra couldn’t help but ask, her gaze full of curiosity. Why did she feel she was strangely familiar?

"This is my friend." Anita smiled. "She had bad injuries in the past and do not want to expose the scars, so she covered her entire body with a cloth. But don’t worry, she is actually very powerful."

Zerra just nodded and withdrew her gaze.

"I heard that our base invited you to deal with this monster before you all leave. Thank you. If I hunt any zombie during this trip, all the crystal cores will be for you," Anita said solemnly.

From the beginning, the woman beside Anita never spoke. Anita didn’t even introduce her na. Zerra just realized that after they went to their separate groups. She didn’t think much of it though.

Instead, she was worrying over the zombie beast they would encounter, wondering whether their current ability would be enough.

A group of over a hundred ability users set off. They all marched in a group of ten or fewer numbers, not wanting to attract too many zombies along the way if too many humans gathered together.

Soon, the group of ability users arrived on the edge of a cliff.

"This is the place?" Azir expressed his doubts.

There seed to be so kind of impenetrable fog below. What kind of danger lay ahead, no one knew. There might not be only one creature waiting for them there.

Anita ca over to them, nodding solemnly when she heard Azir’s question. "The worst case of the ability users’ disappearance is around this cliff."

She peered over to the gray fog below. Her eyes flashed. "We will need to climb down and then use a rope to go down further."

The words were exactly the rough plan they had discussed together. Among the people who ca, there was no base leader around. Not even one from so many of them.

Zerra frowned, and she exchanged glances with Cassias. Their thoughts almost mirrored each other.

"Go down there?" Mateo who had just arrived beside them was taken aback.

Anita shot him a look. "Otherwise, should we wait for the monster to co at us?"

He wanted to say it was possible, but he subconsciously held back.

As if she guessed his thought at a glance, Anita shook her head. "It might be better if we catch the monster off guard. Who knows if it is currently in slumber down below?"

They didn’t refute her words.

"My friend will go down first. Her eyes have so kind of ability and she can see better than normal people. She will lead you all to ambush the monster," Anita told them.

She expressed no intention to go down with them.

Zerra found it strange, but she didn’t say anything. She turned to her parents with so worry.

At this mont, Nerith furrowed her brows and asked, "So people will stay here?"

Anita smiled at Nerith, her face a little solemn. "Yes, Auntie. We will divide the team into two. The two thirds of the top sixty stronger ability users will go down."

The plan was still the sa as they had discussed previously. During that discussion a few days ago, the base just hadn’t told them who would go down and who wouldn’t.

Anita brought out a piece of paper containing the nas of everyone who needed to go down. Nerith and Alaric were placed among the top sixty.

And they also belonged to the ones who should go down to the cliff. In fact, all four of them were marked as the ones who served as vanguard.

They would be a fool if they couldn’t guess it was a deliberate plan; they just didn’t know whether it was the base’ intention or just a certain individual, but clearly they were trying to squeeze every worth they could offer before the four left the base.

Soon, a man from the base who acted as a leader ca to them, asking them to prepare. He separated between the group who would go down and the rest who wouldn’t.

Surprisingly, Mateo, Norman, and Dion stayed behind. Only Ashley was picked among the four of them. A clear bewildered look crossed her face, and Norman’s face paled.

"Anita, can we switch places?" Norman asked worriedly. "I am stronger than Ashley. I can go on her behalf."

In their eyes, Anita was usually kind and agreeable. She would try to help others if she could. This ti, she had expected her to help them persuade the ability users leader from the base to make them switch places.

However, on the contrary to her usual agreeable personality, she refused this ti. Her face was a little stern. "Sorry, Norman. It’s very unfortunate, but this list is already finalized."

The tone she used made it sound as if there was no room for negotiation.

Knowing how stubborn Norman can be, Ashley didn’t want Norman to make things difficult for Anita. She pulled him away. "It’s okay. I will go down. Sorry for disturbing you, Anita."

Sohow, the current Anita felt sowhat unfamiliar... too cold and the look in her eyes was sothing she couldn’t quite describe.

"But..." Norman protested.

Ashley shook her head sternly. "There will be Miss Zerra and Mr. Cassias who will also go down there, so don’t worry. I will return alive."

She flashed him a smile, and even with her reassurance, Norman sohow couldn’t sit still. An ominous feeling still looming over, as if it was a terrible premonition about what would happen next.

After the group of ability users who were going to go down were ready, they slowly climbed down on the cliff wall. Luckily, there was still a small path which was considered safe for them to walk on.

They walked down for a considerable distance before they stopped. This ti, fog had obscured their vision. They could only see things ahead for less than half a ter.

The people who were walking down were also two thirds of the total number of ability users. It can be said that the base went all out to fight the monster, but in reality there were still so powerful ability users who stayed behind.

Those who were called to take this mission were also helpless. If they refused, their base might expel them. The distance between the base and nearest base was quite far. On top of that, they also didn’t want to risk it.

Whether they followed the base’s order or not, both options led to a possible dead end. Helpless, they could only follow the base’s intention, hoping they would survive.

The woman who was with Anita stayed near the mission leader’s side. The first ti Zerra heard it with her sharp sense, it was hoarse.

Her voice seed to be ruined... not just her appearance. What had happened to her?

"To the right," she hoarsely told the mission leader. "Not far, in two minutes, use the ropes."

The mission leader didn’t seem to doubt her words at all. Zerra couldn’t help but use her senses to take a closer look upon the mission leader.

This man had great leadership skills, however, the look on his face was dull. He didn’t seem anxious about the great battle that lay ahead at all.

Strange.

He was too indifferent. Every human’s first instinct when they will face the unknown would be fear. It was sothing engraved in their bones, the fear of death.

Unless... this person didn’t seem to care whether he was alive or dead.

After knowing that the leader was such a person, a deep sense of unease creeped in. With so many people coming to this place, the base wouldn’t do ridiculous things like plotting against their own people, right?

Even if so powerful ability users still stayed behind at the base, just the sheer number of high-level ability users alone was enough to make the base suffer a blow if they perished.

"Hold on tight, we will bring all of you down with the rope." The mission leader announced indifferently.

The woman with thick wrapping was the first to go down, then another ability user. They queued until it reached their turn. There were two ropes, and each will bring down two people.

Zerra and Cassias were using the sa rope, likewise with her parents.

"Mister, are you alright?" She couldn’t help but ask as the mission leader fastened the rope on them.

The man paused briefly before he continued. He didn’t even bother to answer her question. Soon, the four of them were ready.

They could feel the coldness from the fog whipping their face.

At first, the way they went down was quite steady. However, soon, they discovered that they were falling faster and faster.

As if there was no one who was holding the end of the rope from above at all.

Soon, they all realized that the people above had let go of the ropes. Deliberately.
