Zerra was taken aback. She was sure she wasn’t that famous. But... Did the capital send a searching team again? It was a few years ago since they disappeared. They should have given up on it.
She scrutinized the four people in front of her.
"Let’s find a safe place first." They spoke, walking away from the gate of the Tidebreaker City. When they saw Zerra not following them, they stopped and gave her a questioning look.
Zerra bit her lip and ultimately followed them. Jasmine and Collin walked behind her with hesitant looks.
"Who are you?" She suddenly asked them.
The man, whose face was filled with dirt revealed a shocked expression. He rubbed his face. Upon seeing the rotten blood liquid, he nearly vomited.
He scratched the back of his head. "It’s no wonder that you don’t rember . Over a year had passed. I am Will. You saved and my teacher."
Zerra racked her brain. There seed to be such figures heading to the capital during the fight with Henry’s faction.
"You rember , right?" He sounded excited. His hand gestured to the other man beside him. "This is my teacher!"
The said teacher had a head full of white hair now, but he still looked strong and healthy. He smiled at Zerra. "Long ti no see."
"Mr. Gideon." She quickly recognized him.
As they walked, the three continued to chat with each other. Gideon introduced his other students. "The other two are also my students."
After they greeted each other, Zerra asked them curiously. "How did you all end up in such a situation?"
Will revealed a look of horror. He glanced at the gate of the Tidebreaker City that was getting smaller, visibly heaving a sigh of relief. "You don’t know, Zerra! We are not aware that the city actually had such a terrifying number of zombies."
"We just want to get crystal cores because we almost used all of them up." Will shook his head with a helpless face.
Among the four people, three of them were still exhausted from all the running. Even if she couldn’t see their expressions, she could see that they were still shaken from the near death experience.
"I thought you were heading to the capital before." Zerra raised her eyebrows.
Jasmine looked like she wanted to say sothing, but Will beat it to her. He shook his head. "We t a terrifying monster a few months after we arrived at the capital." He paused. "How about you?"
It was like a casual question, yet Zerra felt as if he was probing her. She inwardly curled up her lips. "I encountered a monster too... when I woke up, I arrived at this place."
"Is it because of the monster...?" Will trailed off.
They saw the looks in each other’s eyes. Zerra was full of contemplation while Will looked startled.
Gideon was surprised when he heard that. "Is it the monster who sent you here? We have seen such a monster before too. They can open a sinkhole."
Zerra tilted her head. "You got transported here not because of a monster?"
"No. Originally we believed it was the monster’s power, but it looked confused as soon as we arrived, as if it didn’t expect to appear in an unknown place at all." Gideon answered.
He continued, "Anyway, the monster looks strange. Its entire body is bloated. Like they were filled with a lot of water or wind inside. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find the ti to study it. It took a chance to sneak attack us, so we had to kill it."
Oh, it sounded like so monsters from the scientists’ experint.
"We think there must be so kind of other power, and we concluded it is most likely to be space tears. They can send people to other locations," Will added.
Jasmine and Collin sucked in a breath. They wondered. Was it sothing they could listen to? It sounded like a big thing...
"Space tears..." Zerra murmured. "Have you heard of any news about other cases of this space tear?"
"Miss, I have heard of it." Jasmine suddenly spoke, earning a collective pair of eyes staring at her. She cleared her throat and continued, "One of our people disappeared so weeks ago. When we found him, the person admitted he suddenly appeared in a place far from the base."
"A lot of people thought he didn’t tell the truth... but after listening to your words and Mr. Gideon’s, it seems that we have accused him wrongly." Jasmine let out a sigh.
Gideon nodded. "I would like to et the person later if possible. He is still at the base, right?"
Only then did Zerra realize that Jasmine and Collin seed to recognize Gideon and his students after they ntioned their nas.
"You people know each other already?" She raised her eyebrows.
Jasmine hurriedly shook her head. "We both only heard of Mr. Gideon’s na."
Gideon smiled. "You two are from the outer tribe, right?" He turned to Zerra. "I don’t know if they have told you about their tribes or not, but I have lived with their people for the past few months. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have a shelter here."
"Miss Zerra already knows." Collin chid in. "Yes, Mr. Gideon lives with the inner tribe. He taught them a lot of things." He turned to Gideon with a smile full of awe. "You are really a knowledgeable scholar, Sir."
Zerra could see that Jasmine and Collin seed to respect Gideon a lot.
"It’s nothing. I am only sharing what I know. After all, we humans should band together to survive." Gideon shook his head modestly.
"As for the cases of disappearing people..." his face was full of thought as he shifted his attention to Zerra. "There had been so such reports in the capital."
"Even if they died, there are no traces of it. No bones or zombie figures. The only explanation is the spatial tears. Especially when so of the people who have experienced this first told us they suddenly get sucked sowhere." Gideon let out a sigh.
Inwardly, Zerra wondered whether this man held a high position in the capital. Maybe part of so powerful family or even... the Research Institute?
The scholarly aura around him was too strong!
Zerra nodded, frowning deeply. "We might have new dangers soon besides the zombies and mutated beings."
Gideon also wore a solemn expression. "That’s why I will try to study the possibility of the pattern appearance of the spatial tears. Zerra, if you don’t mind, can you tell about your experience later? We must ensure the survival of humanity."
She was silent for a mont before agreeing.
As they walked, they occasionally faced so mutated animals and plants who would sneak attack them. Once a while, Gideon also would pick up sothing from the ground. Zerra recognized the dicinal properties of the plants he picked up.
Was he a wood ability user too? Considering they were more like a support type of ability, he should be a dual ability user.
"Do you want to go back to the inner tribe, Mr. Gideon?" Jasmine suddenly asked after they took a rest for lunch.
Gideon looked up to the sky. "Yes. There should be enough ti. We should be able to reach the tribe before midnight." He turned to Zerra. "Where do you live? Do you want to join us?"
"Is it fine for the inner tribe people?" She expressed her doubts.
For a tribe that had closed themselves off the world for a long ti, they might not be that welcoming to outsiders. They only welcod Gideon because he helped them to make use of their ability more effectively.
"It should be fine. We will take care of ourselves. I still have a spare tent here," Will said, tapping on his backpack.
Jasmine also smiled. "The inner tribe still takes so people to handle so work. The workers will get paid in return, but the requirent is very strict after the last incident. They still allow outsiders to co."
She winked at Zerra, seemingly wanting to convey sothing. Seeing that, Zerra imdiately agreed to Gideon’s offer.
Did the inner tribe have a map perhaps?
They didn’t manage to get one from the Tidebreaker City. There might not even be one in the entire city. Before the apocalypse, they can simply check the internet for that. Who would bother to print them out?
Because they were ability users, they were more tenacious than ordinary humans. It was the first ti Zerra had tried climbing a mountain in this world.
If it were her human body before the apocalypse, she might not be able to bear it and would collapse halfway. After all, getting sick while climbing a mountain sotis can be life threatening.
During the night, the situation beca more dangerous. There were attacks from the mutated animals which only appear at night.
"Be careful and stay alert all the ti." Gideon warned.
He accurately pointed out all the attack directions and warned the people beforehand, making them prepared.
When they arrived at the inner tribe, they laid down on the ground in exhaustion after they knew they were safe.
"Mr. Gideon! Mr. Gideon! You are finally here! Please save us!" Suddenly, soone ran toward them with panicked voice.
