Zerra imdiately realized their awkward position and jumped away from Cassias.

"This isn’t like what you think, elder–" she stopped herself.

Because the man had already zipped the tent back up, and with embarrassnt clear on his face, he jumped away as if his hand was scalded.

She hurriedly went to the entrance and chased after him. With a soft face yet fierce voice, she called out as she grabbed him. "Elder brother?"

Laziel cleared his throat. "I will pretend I didn’t see anything." His hand reached and made a ss of her hair. "Don’t worry, I won’t tell our parents."

With a frustrated sigh, she nudged him on his stomach. "You misunderstood ."

"Yes, it’s a misunderstanding..." he echoed her words, and sohow they sounded insincere.

She glared at him, and eventually just sighed. Putting the falling strands of hair behind her ears, she switched the topic. "Now, tell what happened?"

Laziel’s eyes flitted around the surroundings. They lit up with the excitent of waiting for the world to plunge into chaos.

"They finally found a lot of dead bodies in the dormitory rooms. Even Henry’s brother is also dead. But... do you know that with such chaos everywhere, Henry isn’t currently at the base?" He excitedly retold everything he knew.

"Henry hasn’t co back...?" She raised her eyebrows. That was excellent news. However, soon she frowned. Dragging Laziel back to Cassias’ tent, they entered.

She created the barrier to prevent people from eavesdropping on their conversation, just like the one she had done for one target who had told her Henry wasn’t at the base.

It was the reason no one had co to help him even if he scread to death.

"Henry isn’t at the base." She frowned. "He must have brought so ability users with him, right? Did others fail to find their targets last night?" She asked Cassias seriously.

Cassias nodded. "Darren and Nyra couldn’t find most of their targets."

The frown on her forehead deepened. "Would it be a problem later?"

She had proposed this plan because it was the best way to get rid of Henry’s people without involving the innocent people. So people with low-level powers were neutral, taking decisions carefully so they wouldn’t be involved in the conflict.

Henry might use these people as cannon fodder against them later. It was best if the available high-level ability users by his side were enough to be taken down with Valez’s family’s current power and them.

Laziel was also listening solemnly. "According to the deal made between the Valez family and Henry, the compensation is due tomorrow, right?"

He was referring to the compensation for the ss they had made when entering the base. Laziel continued, "He might be returning tomorrow, so we better prepare."

"I guess that’s the only choice we have." Zerra knitted her eyebrows.

Darren had taken care of Henry’s n who were at the hospital, and the doctors would soon find out about their deaths too. He was considered the weakest of the group involved in the assassination.

Even weaker than Zerra, which surprised her with her own growth.

Then, they talked about the news of the death of high-ranking base mbers.

"They are checking the rooms now, but not all of them dared to do so," Laziel muttered. "Only a few of the remaining Henry’s n mostly are the ones doing that."

They were not important mbers and most likely unaware of what the Brown family was doing with human crystal cores.

"Most people are frightened right now." He continued.

That was natural, considering the assassination targeted high-level ability users, and they couldn’t even put up the slightest resistance.

Zerra used her senses to check the nearest place where the base’s residents lived. Just as Laziel had described, the people shivered in fear.

"Are you really sure they are all killed? Then what about us? Even powerful ability users have died from the assassinations..."

"Will it be our turn next?" Another one said while trembling. "I don’t think I will be able to sleep tonight."

"Why are you still thinking about sleep...? I wonder who has done such a thing." The person’s voice lowered in a whisper.

The other person also whispered, his voice so small it was almost inaudible. "Do you notice how the assassinated people are all from the Brown family’s side? I have heard no news from the Valez family..."

They stared at each other, wide-eyed. However, even if they ca to know who the culprit was, it didn’t make them feel better. Instead, they were trembling more intensely, hugging each other in fright at the slightest noise that startled them.

"Maybe it’s not them," he denied.

"Yeah, they must have casualties too. They are just better at hiding it since they have fewer mbers," the other one added.

However, no one really knew the true thoughts inside their minds.

Zerra retracted her senses, finding both Cassias and her elder brother were staring at her. She put on an innocent look. "Uh, what?"

Laziel clicked his tongue. "Munchkin," he glanced at Cassias before taking Zerra’s hand, "let’s go out."

They had a nice breakfast. In contrast with the situation on the base dorms, where fear reigned everywhere, the hospital rooms were very peaceful. Especially when Cassias had taken out so fresh livestock. Zerra also contributed so premium ingredients.

They were having a sumptuous al.

"How are you feeling?" After breakfast, Zerra went to visit the pair of teacher and student.

Her mom didn’t leave them out and cooked porridge for them.

"Are you the girl who saved ?" The teacher had a grateful look on his face. "Thank you for your help!" Then, he sighed, "The world has beco so unpredictable lately."

Will, the student, knitted his eyebrows. "The most important thing is that we are safe."

He seed to want to add sothing, but realizing Zerra was there, he held back. Ultimately, he could only say, "Our people should be here soon. I will go out to find them later."

The teacher frowned disapprovingly. "We just got out of danger, and now you are rushing to jump into another one? Just let these people go find us. They might go to this base to check."

Zerra smiled. "May I know this mister’s na? Maybe we can tell them you are here if they co to the base."

The teacher had so white strands of hair already, but he still looked energetic. "My na is Gideon."

"Alright, Mr. Gideon."

The commotion at the base lasted for a while. People were too scared to go out of their rooms. So huddled together, gathering with other ability users, believing that the strength cos in numbers.

Of course, not all high-ranking mbers have been killed. So narrowly escaped death because they had business outside the base.

When they returned, they were enveloped in great fear. Especially when the orange hue in the sky slowly morphed into complete darkness. They almost couldn’t help but quake in their seats.

"What if the assassins ca again? Will they co after us next?" The person said tremblingly. It was at this mont that he suddenly regretted why must he had such a high level of power. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so afraid...

"There are dozens of us here. We should believe we can resist them together." Another chid in, but the pale face betrayed his fear.

When the night was getting deeper, the fear in their hearts deepened.

"Mr. Brown has been away for a while. When would he return? Maybe he could contact his friend for help–"

A sudden slamming of the door interrupted the man’s words. The sound of the door opening sent tremors through the people’s hearts.
