The door from other rooms abruptly opened. When they thought they had finished all the monsters, they celebrated it too soon.
Cassias killed the monsters he was facing in the quickest ti possible and jumped in Zerra’s direction. He handed her a bottle of spring water. "Drink."
She didn’t hesitate to take it. Like the magical pills from the celestial realm, her spiritual power was replenished in an instant, and she was no longer as tired as before.
"Can this work for others too?" She asked.
Cassias t her watery eyes. Her gaze was innocent, as if she were asking a common question.
He withdrew his gaze. "It could work, but not as effectively as when we drink it."
Her pupils constricted at his words. Now, he was openly admitting it; he had singled out both of them. The spring water was very effective on her because it could replenish her spiritual power, then...
"Let’s go," Cassias reminded her.
She suppressed her curiosity and joined the battlefield, helping Amora ward off monsters as she tried to bring Amorric out of the wooden hut.
With Cassias’ help, they made it out a bit easier. As soon as they arrived outside, the doctor took over.
"You should stay here," Zerra advised. Amora’s face was so anxious that she couldn’t help but feel pity for her.
"No, I will go back inside." Amora shook her head stubbornly. She seed to want to say sothing but hesitated and ultimately against it. Taking a deep breath, she let it out slowly. "I can still help."
Since she wanted to join others to exterminate the monsters, Zerra didn’t stop her any longer. They both ran back inside.
The sheer number of monsters was beyond anyone’s expectations. They had killed dozens of them, but now the number was doubled. Even when they were tired, they still had to fight against them.
It was unknown whether they were fortunate. Not all monsters were interested in targeting humans. They weren’t like most zombies, who craved fresh flesh regardless if they were already full or not.
So escaped into the forest. The overwhelming numbers made it harder to make sure they wouldn’t run away.
"Zizi, you noticed sothing wrong with my uncle, right?" Amora opened her mouth.
Zerra was taken aback. She montarily couldn’t control her expression. And Amora, who saw that, could only purse her lips in silence.
She continued, "When the monster exploded, it was weird. Different compared to other monsters. Its explosion seed to have triggered other monsters too. So, it was because of my uncle..."
Guilt was still apparent on her face. Zerra didn’t comnt on her, who continued to call that creature ’uncle’ and ’monster’ alternately. Amora seed disturbed, as if she hadn’t gotten over her uncle’s death too.
The conversation happened in a few minutes, and they imdiately went back inside the wooden hut.
Cassias was using his power to scorch the monsters and make their hearts explode. His destructive power was high, but he needed to gather his power before he could execute his move.
The battle lasted for a few hours, full of destruction and casualties. Zerra tried to find Daniel’s figure among the monsters, yet there was no one familiar.
"Do you know where the experintal subject number 064 is?" Zerra kicked the man’s calf, making him groan in pain.
"Why are you looking for him?" He hissed. He exhaled deeply, glaring at her murderously. Soon, a smirk painted his crazed face. In a teasing tone, he told her, "Little girl, one of your people might have accidentally killed him."
He glanced at Cassias who was standing beside her, staring at him coldly. In a gloating tone, he asked, "Who is experintal subject 064 for you? Was he your boyfriend?"
Zerra’s temples twitched.
Others were busy dealing with the corpses of their fallen companions and the injured people right now. They would hold a funeral for them at the base.
This operation was a Pyrrhic victory. They also lost a lot of mbers in the process. Even though they might die, so people still willingly sacrificed themselves.
If these monsters were to wander into the ordinary people’s residential area, it was unimaginable what kind of bloodbath it would lead to. The entire residential area could die.
Zerra suppressed her annoyance. It was also because of this man’s plot that they couldn’t prepare sufficiently to deal with the monsters, resulting in so many casualties. However, the most baffling thing for her was the power that had enveloped this place.
There was so kind of force that held the monsters behind the door, like so kind of curtain. The mont Amora’s uncle died, it was as if the power had shattered.
Array?
The magic formation, which only existed in the celestial realm, popped into her mind.
"You are lying," she snapped at the man, kicking his calf again. "Lead us there."
"What makes you think I will follow your words, little girl?" The man hissed in pain, but he still had the ti to sneer at her.
Zerra blinked. The wheels in her brain turned. She gave him a sweet smile.
She didn’t know who the great scientist this man had ntioned before. It was best if he could lead them to this great scientist.
There were traces that Cassias might have co from another realm too. So, that person also might have been one. She wondered whether there were others like her...
She narrowed her eyes. Her mories went back to the ti when she revealed her fox transformation in front of Cassias. The man didn’t seem to be surprised, right?
At that ti, she was a little indignant at his nonchalant expression. As if he regarded the fact that she could transform into a fox like cabbages—a very common thing. Can’t he pretend to be shocked or surprised a little?!
In the celestial realm, animal spirits like her weren’t unusual. They exist everywhere; what made them different was their power levels.
She had been suspicious for a long ti that he might be soone from the celestial realm too. But for the ti being, she had no proof.
She also didn’t want to reveal this particular secret she had kept for countless reincarnations to the male lead just because he acted differently in this reincarnation. It was a gamble she couldn’t risk yet.
"I will help you." Zerra bead at the man. She ’accidentally’ touched his wounds.
"Let do that." Cassias cleared his throat. He walked forward to take the man from her, letting him sling his hand over his shoulder.
The process made the man suck in a deep breath in pain. They weren’t gentle at all, even deliberately being rough on him. He threw them both a murderous look, gritting his teeth.
This ti, he struggled to keep a neutral face, not wanting them to feel the satisfaction of seeing him in pain.
However, soon he couldn’t keep a straight face anymore. The girl with a soft appearance was actually a demon inside. She deliberately tortured him.
She would smile as she coaxed him, "If you tell us where they are, you will no longer feel pain."
Her words were gentle, but what she did to him wasn’t! She was saying that while using salt water on his wounds, making him feel he was better off dead.
"How is it? Sounds good, right?" She bead.
They were currently staying outside the wooden hut, taking care of the wounded. If not for the man being in Zerra’s hands, with the murderous intention others were displaying, they might have rushed over and sliced him into pieces.
The man slowly was on the verge of breaking down. He didn’t know what kind of thod this demon girl was using, but every ti she applied the salt water to him, the more painful it beca.
As if sothing was affecting his nervous system. Even the spot that wasn’t injured.
"I will talk." He finally couldn’t bear the torture anymore, gasping for breath weakly.
With pain attacking him all over, it was as if his sanity had returned.
If this continued, he might be tortured for a few weeks straight! The strange water Cassias had forced him to drink actually replenished his energy.
It was the mont he realized that death by starvation was impossible. At least not until Cassias stopped giving him that water.
He suspected that the drink was mixed with various nutrients the body needed. And the one who created that drink was... Derek Ashford.
That man was still riddled with wounds and very weak, but he insisted on trying it. On the other hand, they were treating him as a guinea pig!
"If you show us the wrong way, that will make us go the wrong path, you know the consequence." Zerra reminded him.
"That won’t happen," He sneered. "Trust a little."
A mont later, he regretted it deeply!
He thought they would leave him there to die, but they actually brought him along! When he didn’t move too much, the pain was sowhat bearable, but... Cassias was dragging him along the way.
"I will talk! This ti it’s the truth," he closed his eyes, mourning his fate. He truly regretted provoking these people and stayed behind. He should have run the mont he had the chance!
