She stared at the pitchfork in Cassias’ hand with a dazed look on her face. Originally, she had thought that she would never find her weapon again.
She had secretly gone to Pure Heart Lake, but she couldn’t find it. Colonel Jas and Captain Dalton also told her there was no pitchfork in the octopus monster’s carcass when they cleaned the lake.
So, she simply thought that it had sunk to the bottom of the lake. Unexpectedly, it had been with Cassias all this ti.
Tilting her head, she asked in surprise, "You took it out of the octopus monster’s body?"
"Yes, sorry, I almost forgot to return it to you," Cassias said earnestly.
"It’s nothing." She waved her hand. From her space, she had taken out a whip to deal with zombies or other dangers; more areas had been unlocked.
Zombies were easier to deal with, though; she could just command them to stop and then kill them. Although she had advanced to level four, her range and ti of zombie control were still limited.
Nevertheless, they had doubled a few tis over.
She took the pitchfork from Cassias’ hands and traced her fingers on the wooden handle. Why did she feel that the handle had beco much more shiny and sturdy? And the tines too!
He must have taken great care of it. Hugging the handle, she muttered softly, "Thank you."
Soon, she would join Laziel and others to venture into the woods. There were so mutated animals there...
Zombies were still present in the Capital, but the rate was still much lower compared to other cities. In order to find more crystal cores, they had to resort to hunting mutated animals.
Coincidentally too, the base assigned them a mission to exterminate the mutated animals near people’s resident. Those people lived near the forest, and it had beco a problem lately.
More and more mutated animals ventured to their residents, running increasingly rampant.
This ti, Cassias wouldn’t join them, though. He had so matters to deal with his parents.
"Be careful." His gaze beca inexplicable. Worry occasionally flashed across his face. There was also reluctance.
They had taken so ti to convince Nerith to let Zerra go with Laziel and others. She didn’t seem to trust others compared to Cassias, who would get an instant pass from her.
"When you see danger you can’t handle, don’t force yourself. Just stay safe, okay?" He reached out to brush her soft black hair.
Zerra was shocked, but she quickly cald her chaotic little heart. T-the male lead was trying to extend his evil claw onto her hair now, ssing it up!
She grumbled to cover up her strange feeling. After they were done, she strode toward Laziel, Nyra and others, who were already waiting.
They had gathered outside the base because of the temporary ban inflicted on Laziel. So, even if he joined them in exterminating the mutated animals, he wouldn’t get any bonus paynt.
The mont she got inside the car, she sighed at the peculiar feeling. Usually, it was Cassias who would be driving, but now it was Darren.
Her eyes road around briefly until she spotted ira. Inwardly, she groaned. This trip would be quite eventful... however, it might also give her a chance to let Laziel see ira’s true nature.
That girl was truly restless. Even with her boyfriend beside her, her gaze sotis still fell on Darren’s figure. A calculating glint occasionally lit her eyes.
"Is everyone already here?" Darren asked. He counted the people in his car, then got out to ask the other car.
Until another vehicle appeared beside them. The people rolled down the windows, revealing several familiar faces. Zerra’s temples throbbed.
She had begun regretting it for joining them a little ...
"Mr. Valez, the base sent us to assist all of you." The familiar thin, long-faced stared at them.
"Oh, I haven’t introduced myself yet. My na is Arnold." Then, he introduced others on his team.
The other people in the car had various expressions upon seeing them. ira’s face was especially pale. Laziel knitted his brows in obvious dislike.
Darren frowned, hesitating. However, since these n weren’t starting trouble with them this ti, he couldn’t refuse. It was unknown whether they were rely acting or not; he hoped they would continue to behave along the way.
They would certainly need more manpower. He had previously wondered whether the base would send another team after them, and now his question was answered.
"We are going to set off soon," he told them. "Is everything ready on your side?"
Zerra glanced at the area inside the base. She spotted Byron’s figure staring at them. In an instant she knew who had sent those people–Byron.
He must have thought that the Capital’s main base wasn’t lively enough...
"It’s okay. I will protect you." Laziel assured ira, who was on the verge of panic.
In the passenger seat, Nyra glanced at them both through the rearview mirror with slight scorn, crossing her hands over her chest.
After a while, Darren ca back again. He started the car, followed by two other cars from behind.
The trip only took two hours, and they instantly arrived at the destination. The mont they got out, so critters, like squirrels, imdiately threw rocks at them.
"Ouch!" Laziel, who was the first to get out of the car, hissed. A small stone had hit his forehead.
He went inside and clutched ira’s hands. "You stay inside."
By the ti he went out again, others had already left their cars to deal with the critters nearby. So animals were intelligent enough and instantly detected them as dangerous.
They began to throw things at Zerra and others. So faster animals even took the chance to bite unsuspecting people. Their tiny figures made it harder to guard against.
The sounds of guns reverberated, shooting at each animal.
"Don’t let them bite you. Stay alert!" Darren reminded.
At this mont, Zerra’s eye twitched when she saw ira getting out of the car. She ran toward them, stopping not far from Darren.
"What are you doing? Get back inside the car!" Laziel seed a bit frustrated. He approached her and was about to drag ira back, but the girl evaded.
"I have my gun. Let try to protect myself." She muttered. Before he could respond, ira aid in a certain direction.
Zerra’s pupils constricted. This girl had gone crazy. She was aiming in Nyra’s direction!
ira pulled the trigger.
