Fang ngyao grew up in the countryside with her grandparents. From a young age, she knew she had a very beautiful mother nad Zhu Wanxia. However, until Zhu Wanxia’s death, the number of tis they t was very few.

There was a lot of gossip in the village. Hearing it often, she ca to understand that her own birth was disgraceful. The villagers all said that her mother must have been promiscuous outside, becoming pregnant before marriage, and that no one wanted the child after it was born. From a very young age, she could hear the malice in those rumors.

She knew none of this was kind, unwilling to hear or believe it. Because of this, she had argued with people and had sorrowfully asked her grandparents, but they always looked at her and sighed. Occasionally, they would curse her mother under their breath, saying she was worthless.

She gradually realized that what those people said was true. As a result, she began to feel numb and inferior.

Life in the village, although austere and filled with gossiping neighbors, didn’t bring her harm. Moreover, because her household consisted only of two elderly people, whenever there was a difficulty, the neighbors would help out.

Originally, she thought life would continue placidly. But as she grew day by day, her grandparents aged, and eventually, they both passed away when she was nine.

When the two elders died, her mother didn’t co back. It was only after they had been buried for several days that she finally returned ho. After paying her respects, she took her to Beishi City.

Beishi City was a bustling tropolis, its level of prosperity unimaginable to soone like her who had never stepped beyond the countryside. She was utterly shocked at the ti, and along with the shock ca a sense of unease. However, her dependable grandparents were gone, and the only one left she could rely on was her mother Zhu Wanxia, a person she had rarely seen and who felt very unfamiliar.

Because of her trepidation towards the big city, she chose to forget the villagers’ criticisms of her mother and buried her resentnt towards this person deep inside. All her misplaced yearning was pinned on Zhu Wanxia.

But gradually, she discovered Zhu Wanxia’s true nature—her mother, Zhu Wanxia, was a kept mistress!

She didn’t understand these things initially, but because Zhu Wanxia wouldn’t take care of her, leaving her in the apartnt with nothing but a computer and phone as toys, she learned to surf the internet to pass the ti and discovered all sorts of fascinating new things online.

On the internet, people looked down on "Xiao San" and "mistresses," often sharing news of wives leading groups to violently confront the "Xiao San." The more she read, the more terrified she beca, even dreaming at night of the ho’s security door being battered down, with a group of people wielding weapons bursting in and killing her and Zhu Wanxia.

Because of this fear, she beca extrely introverted and inferior at school, too afraid to make friends, to reveal her parents’ occupations, or to bring anyone ho. She feared her disgraceful origins would be exposed, and others would gaze at her with strange eyes, calling her a "bastard born to a mistress!"

This fear accompanied her as she grew, until later, when Zhu Wanxia suddenly fell ill with that disease starting with an A. At that ti, she was terrified to death, frightened that she too would beco infected. Zhu Wanxia also seed scared, personally taking her to the hospital for blood tests.

The waiting period for the results was a nightmare for her! Luckily, she was fortunate and wasn’t infected. Afterwards, she watched helplessly as Zhu Wanxia beca more and more haggard. Her hair and skin, which she heavily invested in for maintenance, beca dry, and she looked as if she had lost all vitality and energy, eventually reduced to lying on the bed in agony.

Seeing Zhu Wanxia like this made her panic again. Although she had faced the death of her grandparents, at that ti she still had her mother. Even if they rarely t and she harbored many grievances against Zhu Wanxia in her heart, she knew she still had a mother she could depend on. So although she was afraid, it wasn’t enough to overwhelm her.

Watching Zhu Wanxia grow more wan and seeming close to death terrified her. The resentnt she once held had long vanished as she watched Zhu Wanxia deteriorate day by day, leaving only her reliance on and love for her mother.
