The next day arrived swiftly, with the golden sunlight casting warm rays over the ruined apocalypse world. Despite the destruction outside, the morning carried an unusual sense of peace.
"Mommy!"
Ivy heard the voices of her two children through her light sleep, and just like that, her eyes slowly fluttered open.
The mont she did, she saw Aria and Lila standing before her with bright smiles plastered across their beautiful little faces.
She hadn’t even slept for long. After breastfeeding Hope, she had only just closed her eyes to rest for a while before being woken up again. Yet sohow, she couldn’t find it in herself to be angry.
The smiles on her daughters’ faces were enough to lt her heart instantly.
It was so cute and heartwarming that Ivy ended up smiling as well despite her exhaustion.
"When did you get back, Mommy?" Aria asked excitedly, climbing onto the bed beside her. "We waited for you last night, but you didn’t co back on ti."
"Oh, my darlings..." Ivy murmured softly, her sleepy eyes filled with warmth as she planted gentle kisses on both Aria and Lila’s heads.
She then glanced at the ti and realized it was only 5:50 a.m.
So early.
Usually, the girls slept until seven or even eight in the morning, yet both of them were already awake since the apocalypse started since they’re not going to school.
Imdiately, the last traces of sleep disappeared from Ivy’s eyes, replaced by worry.
"What’s wrong?" she asked quickly as she sat upright. "Why did you both wake up so early?"
Without waiting for an answer, Ivy imdiately began checking them over anxiously, gently turning them around while examining their arms and faces for injuries.
"Did sothing happen, darling?" she added worriedly.
"No, Mommy," Lila replied with a warm smile. "We actually fell asleep while waiting for you last night. But when we woke up and saw each other this morning, we realized you were finally back."
Only then did Ivy finally relax a little and stop fussing over them.
Lila then grabbed Ivy’s hand with her tiny fingers, her expression turning worried.
"Are you okay, Mommy?" she asked softly.
"Yes," Aria chid in imdiately, her eyes filled with concern. "Are you hurt, Mommy? Did anyone give you a hard ti while you were outside? We were really worried about you and Sunny."
Ivy’s heart softened even further at their concern.
"Oh no, sweeties. Mommy is fine," Ivy reassured gently with a warm smile. "Sunny is fine too. Mommy just had to complete sothing important outside, which is why I ca back late."
She stretched slightly before leaning back against the bed.
"I was only taking a short nap because I’ll have to go out again soon," she explained patiently.
The mont those words left her mouth, both Aria and Lila’s expressions dimd slightly.
Even though they tried not to show it, Ivy could clearly see the disappointnt in their little faces.
Still, she gently rubbed their heads comfortingly.
"You both know Mommy has to provide for you girls now," she said softly. "The world outside is dangerous, and Mommy has to work hard so all of us can live comfortably and safely."
The girls looked at her quietly.
"The only way you can thank Mommy and make happy," Ivy continued with a playful smile, "is by doing every single assignnt I give you concerning your studies. Can you both do that for ?"
"We can!" Aria answered imdiately, raising her little hand confidently.
Lila nodded seriously as well.
"We’ll study hard and beco very useful in the future so Mommy won’t have to work too hard anymore."
Hearing that nearly made Ivy’s heart burst from affection.
She pulled both girls into her arms carefully, trying not to wake the sleeping Hope beside her.
"My good girls..." Ivy whispered emotionally as she hugged them tightly.
For a brief mont, the exhaustion, danger, and pressure of the apocalypse all seed worth it.
"Anyways, since we’re all awake now, it’s better I prepare breakfast for you both and also keep so breast milk for Hope," Ivy said as she slowly got out of bed. "Like I said earlier, Mommy has to go out again today, and of course Sunny is coming with ."
The mont Sunny’s na was ntioned, both girls beca sad.
"Sunny is going too?" Lila asked with a sad expression.
"Yes," Ivy replied with a light chuckle. "Sunny is Mommy’s strongest bodyguard now. Don’t worry we’ll both be back soon."
The girls nodded in understanding.
The shelter was quiet and peaceful in the early morning. The soft golden sunlight coming through the windows gave the kitchen a warm atmosphere despite the cruel apocalypse outside.
Once inside the kitchen, Ivy imdiately began preparing breakfast.
Aria was tasked with taking out the fruit juice from the freezer while Lila stood beside the counter helping with the eggs.
