Aron noticed the reluctant look on D-One’s face as he held the orb in his hand.
Because of the shield’s limitations, Aron couldn’t use Inspection or his Sense ability to probe it.
D-One raised the orb, still looking hesitant. Using sothing so precious on soone ranked lower than him felt wrong, but deep down, he knew he couldn’t risk letting soone as powerful as Aron escape and roam free.
Hardening his resolve, D-One muttered a few gibberish words.
The orb dissolved into sand and vanished.
Aron, who had been watching calmly, suddenly saw a notification appear before him:
[The Chain of Anubis has been used: Talent Fortspheire (Mana) has been used.]
The Fortspheire Do surrounding him flickered, then disappeared entirely.
The ability vanished from his list of talents.
Aron froze, stunned.
(What the hell...)
He didn’t waste a second.
Realizing what had happened, he gathered water around himself, trying to harden it into a barrier.
But before it could fully form, D-One, livid and humiliated from having to use such a priceless artifact on soone so far below his level, moved.
He vanished in a blur, reappearing before Aron as if he had teleported.
Aron’s eyes widened.
He didn’t even have ti to react before D-One’s punch tore through the water shield.
Boom!
Even though the barrier absorbed part of the impact, the remaining force hit Aron full on.
His body shot out of the garage, tearing through the estate and smashing through building after building until he was flung into the heart of the city.
His hair ca loose, flailing wildly as he flew.
Gritting his teeth mid air, Aron slamd his foot into the ground, using Earth Control to summon layers of rock and slow himself down.
The ground split open beneath him, leaving a long trail before he finally stopped.
He coughed up a mouthful of blood.
The shockwave had rattled his insides, shattering almost every bone. His arm, the one he’d used to block, was broken beyond repair, skin torn and bleeding heavily.
Barely conscious, Aron could feel his life slipping away.
He couldn’t even lift his arm, let alone fight.
D-One stood atop a nearby building, glaring down at him.
Even after that devastating blow, Aron was still standing, his long hair covering his face.
D-One’s gaze followed the trail Aron’s feet had carved into the ground.
(He’s still standing? After that?)
Grinding his teeth, D-One snapped ntally, ("You’d better explain this. Didn’t you say no one can possess more than one talent? I just saw him use two more aside from Fortspheire, ability I wasted a treasure to take!")
...
Silence.
("Don’t you dare ignore !") D-One shouted, eyes locked on Aron, who had sohow withstood a blow a hundred tis stronger than his own and was still standing.
Finally, a calm, feminine voice echoed in his mind.
("I don’t know,") she said, composed, but clearly unsettled.
("In theory, no being should possess more than one talent. Not even the Absolute Authority Holder chosen by a universe can break that law. Your cousin Jergenmay included.")
D-One clenched his fists.
("Then maybe he has a replication or copy-type talent, like in those movies or manga.")
A quiet scoff followed.
("Such fantasies are impossible. The only existence capable of holding multiple talents is a World Embryo, my core that distributes power to all of you. No mortal or divine being can replicate that.")
D-One’s frown deepened.
("What if soone like Ana was helping him?")
The voice chuckled softly.
("Do you even know what the Chain of Anubis is? If he had been the one to use the orb on you, every ability used as a dium would’ve been sacrificed to Anubis. Your Authority, and Ana’s, would’ve been stripped away permanently.")
("If he possessed a copy talent, it would’ve been considered a dium too, and would’ve been stripped. The fact that he can still use other abilities freely ans one thing: either he has multiple innate talents, or sothing that nullifies artifact interference.")
She paused.
("But both of those are practically impossible.")
D-One’s mind raced, thoughts processing a hundred tis faster than normal.
--
Far in the distance, the spectators could only stare in disbelief at the destruction Aron had caused, and the fact that he was still on his feet.
Levi, Ana, and Jergenmay had already arrived, their expressions complicated.
"Let’s go," Jergenmay said suddenly, turning to leave.
"Wait, where are you going?" Ana asked, grabbing her shoulder.
Jergenmay stopped, slowly turning her head. Her cool, calm eyes t Ana’s.
Ana imdiately pulled her hand back. "S-sorry," she stamred, fear flashing in her eyes.
Levi stepped forward, gently pulling Ana behind him. His usually calm face hardened as he looked at Jergenmay warily.
Jergenmay only smiled, graceful, distant, untouched by emotion, and turned to leave.
"Wait!" Ana blurted.
"He’s your cousin! Aren’t you going to stay in case he needs your help?"
Jergenmay paused mid-step, expression unchanged. Her eyes flicked toward the ongoing battle.
"With what exactly?" she asked quietly.
"He’s fighting soone ranked below him, yet his strength has multiplied several tis over. And thanks to you, am pretty sure he has access to my authority."
She turned back to Ana and Levi.
"So tell , what kind of help could he possibly need from ?"
"y-y-you know unlike our Authority, he can only use a fraction of your authority!" Ana protested.
Jergenmay just shook her head and walked away, the two following close behind.
Levi sighed. "Let her go. Do you really think D-One would lose to a cockroach? Look at him, that was just one strike."
Ana nodded, but unease gnawed at her.
And with that monster in sheep’s clothing gone, the feeling only grew stronger.
