For the Lunar New Year, dazzling fireworks blossod over the river.
The nightti sky was illuminated by colorful flowers, bright under the lit night sky, many people looked up in awe, how beautiful!
The winter air chilled the bones, a young woman held her hands together by her mouth and exhaled, watched the fireworks for a while, and contentedly headed ho.
This year, on New Year’s Eve, Su Shu was alone in the big city. After watching this year’s fireworks display, she planned to head ho to watch the Spring Festival Gala.
All the lights in the room were turned on, scattering light into every corner of the house, with cheerful tunes playing from the TV in the living room, and a fresh soup simring on the kitchen stove.
Although she was alone at ho, she still seriously donned an apron and stood behind the kitchen counter, kneading dough, rolling out skins, and wrapping dumplings.
One by one, the ingot-shaped dumplings were neatly arranged to one side.
Just as another pot of water began to boil in preparation to cook the dumplings, the doorbell suddenly rang!
Wiping her hands, Su Shu went to open the door.
Standing at the door was a tall, handso man, with a warm smile and holding a steaming plate of dumplings.
"Hello, I’m your neighbor from across the hall, I just got back today, made so dumplings, and brought them for you, Happy New Year!"
Su Shu was taken aback for a mont, looking down at the plate of dumplings, "I... have... at ho."
"Ah, was I being a bit presumptuous?"
"No, not at all, not at all, I... just a bit surprised."
"I made them myself, they’re not perfect, but they taste alright," the man said with a laugh.
Su Shu blushed slightly.
So he was the new neighbor she had never t; she hadn’t expected to et him on New Year’s Eve.
Su Shu greeted politely, "Hello, hello!"
The man laughed, "I just moved in, didn’t have ti to get a gift, I hope you don’t mind."
Seeing the man’s kindness, for so reason, Su Shu impulsively asked.
"Are you spending New Year’s alone?"
She realized how abrupt her question was only after asking it, but the man didn’t mind and instead laughed heartily.
"Ah, yes, so eating dumplings alone is a bit... Are you as well?"
Su Shu hesitated for a mont and then nodded.
The man kept smiling politely.
Su Shu pointed behind her, where the Spring Festival Gala had already started on the TV in the living room.
"How about... we eat together?"
"Sure, thank you."
By the ti Su Shu stood behind the kitchen counter again and continued wrapping the remaining few dumplings, it took a long ti before she suddenly realized what she had just done.
Raising her head, she could see the man sitting on the sofa peeling garlic.
Sohow, the scene felt eerily familiar.
She shook her head, maybe she was overthinking it; he had just moved in today, after all.
When the last dumpling was put in the pot, the man had finished peeling the garlic, grabbed a handful of it, and ca over, laughing.
"Do you need help crushing these?"
"Yes."
Su Shu responded very naturally, inexplicably frozen on the spot.
"What’s wrong?" the man asked.
Su Shu shook her head, "It’s nothing." She wondered why she felt a bit strange today.
"I’m really glad to be spending the New Year with you," the man said.
Su Shu looked up, offering a small smile, "Two is definitely more lively than one."
"Yes, my family na is Tang, and I’m Tang Zelin," the man’s eyes crinkled with a smile.
On hearing this na, Su Shu had a mont of dizziness, feeling sothing special.
"Hello, my last na is Su, you can call Su Shu."
The warmth flared in Tang Zelin’s dark eyes, he smiled, "Okay, Shushu."
