Chapter 221: Chapter 220 Sweet Dog Food Spread Joyfully (15) Chapter 221: Chapter 220 Sweet Dog Food Spread Joyfully (15) Ever since Tang Zelin had ntioned the matter of submitting a marriage report to the higher-ups, Su Shu had the sa dream for several days in a row.

In the dream, it was always a scene from her past life.

In front of the Martyrs’ Cetery, she was dressed in a black skirt, wearing a small white flower, standing in front of a lonely gravestone.

The breeze lifted the hem of her skirt, the chill drying the tears on her cheeks.

A silent chasm separated life and death.

Countless words in her heart could not be spoken out loud, endless yearning resonating within her chest.

In the dream, Su Shu was like a bystander, standing to the side. She saw “herself” squat down, leaning on the gravestone with infinite attachnt, whispering, the piercing heartache clear even within the dream.

At her most desperate, she had fleetingly possessed the most fervent heart in this world.

Even if she could not fully occupy that fervent heart, she still considered it her destination, her ho.

One she could return to whenever she felt weary from being outside.

A ho that would never shut her out.

Later, the ho was no more, and she beca a holess orphan, wandering in this cruel world.

Awakening in the dead of night, she found her pillow soaked with unknowing tears.

In the cool night, the dull ache tearing at her chest still stimulated her nerves.

“Tang Zelin…” she murmured.

At the regint’s entrance.

Tang Zelin, just back from night training and having rinsed his head with cold water outside the door, was about to enter his room. He stood at the entrance and suddenly turned to look behind him.

A trace of confusion arose in his eyes.

Why did it feel like soone was calling him?

“Co inside already, what are you doing standing out there? Trying to freeze into an icicle?” Qu Guo’an entered the room, patting him on the way in.

Tang Zelin turned back and followed Qu Guo’an into the room, saying, “Nothing much, I just feel like soone was calling my na.”

Qu Guo’an said, “Don’t scare , we’re living in the mountains here; let’s stay focused.”

Tang Zelin replied, “Maybe I heard wrong.”

Before they went to sleep, Qu Guo’an, staring at the ceiling, suddenly said, “I went to the city today, and soone told , many places out there are in chaos.”

Having just spread out his bedding, Tang Zelin slipped under the covers, and upon hearing this, he raised his arm over his head and fell silent for a while, then grunted in acknowledgnt.

Qu Guo’an turned his head and asked, “Old Tang, there’s sothing I’ve been holding back in my heart, can I ask it?”

Tang Zelin closed his eyes, knowing without guessing what Qu Guo’an wanted to ask him.

“You want to ask about what exactly happened on the last mission I went on?”

“Can you talk about it? Since you’ve been back, every ti I attend a eting in the city, the leaders tell to pay extra attention to your state. You know how I am—I tend to worry about this and that, all the more so because…”

“All the more so because it’s ,” Tang Zelin interjected.

Qu Guo’an sighed deeply.

Tang Zelin opened his eyes. In the pitch-dark night, ntioning that period of his life he didn’t want to recall felt as if he had been instantly returned to that dreadful scene, where all that t his eyes was the hellish world that remained after morals and humanity had declined.

He had been in the army for many years, been through countless fierce and difficult battles, and could say that he was fortunate to have narrowly escaped death to be alive now.

He was a born soldier, his bones carrying the blood of generations who had borne arms against the enemy. He had long considered that one day he would die on the battlefield.

Even so, he had never feared death.

But on that foreign mission, in a stranger’s holand, he had personally witnessed what the cruelest aspect of man against man looked like.
