Chapter 174: Chapter 173: How Deep is the Sche of Chief Tang Da (7) Chapter 174: Chapter 173: How Deep is the Sche of Chief Tang Da (7) The people from Group 208 had returned, bringing with them over a hundred disaster victims who had been relocated from the crisis area.
The flood had raged for many days, and by now, those who were rescued were most likely to have lost their hos and families, with wives and children dispersed.
Like the others at the resettlent site, Su Shu watched those people from a distance, expressionlessly following the Soldiers’ commands as they were directed to a space that had been cleared for them to rest.
Tang Zelin’s face was weather-beaten, showing a touch of paleness, and Su Shu frowned, feeling a pang of distress.
His body was still in the recovery phase, and yet he would never fall behind on any mission. Continuing like this, he would wear himself out.
Behind Su Shu, soone grumbled dissatisfiedly, “We are almost starving, and now they bring back so many people? Have the brains of those in the governnt beco waterlogged? These Soldiers are really annoying.”
“They are also disaster victims, and the Soldiers can only obey their orders from above. But taking in so many people at once, will there be enough food?” another person agreed.
Su Shu’s face darkened and her eyebrows drew together.
Luo Gang glanced at her out of the corner of his eye but said nothing.
The person behind her was still not appeased, “How many days has it been? The disaster relief isn’t finished yet? Can we go ho? I don’t want to be stuck here eating bread and instant noodles every day, losing all taste in my mouth!”
“Bear with it a little longer, it won’t be much longer now.”
“Look at those people, covered in filth, as if they’ve been dug out of so ditch, each as pale as death, it’s frightening to look at them. They might carry diseases that could infect us, right?”
Su Shu bit her teeth in secret, subtly moving to the side to keep her distance from the people she disliked.
Su Shu’s sudden move was abrupt; as she stepped aside, the people behind her found their view unobstructed and, looking thoughtfully at her receding back, seed to understand sothing. With a roll of their eyes, they spat to the side.
“Such a pretender!”
Soone tugged at her, “What are you doing?”
“Haha, so people are pretending to be above it all, can’t stand the truth, huh? Well, yes, what kind of status do they have? What backing do us ordinary folks have? We can only endure hunger and hardship. Pfft.”
“Talk less.”
“Talk less? The last ti my child was so hungry, just wanting so milk powder, I went to ask them for help and they completely ignored . Fine then, they have the group captain to rely on. What do we have? Might as well rely on the northwest wind!”
Su Shu’s jaw tightened. She really wanted to turn around and slap her, to stop her nonsense.
But far away, Tang Zelin was standing there, organizing the placent of the disaster victims, his body weak but still standing firm. How could she embarrass him in front of everyone at this ti?
She couldn’t do it!
Let the ears be quiet if the mind must be at peace!
Suddenly, Su Shu turned around and headed back to her tent. As she brushed past the complaining woman, she gave her a cold, chilling glance and strode towards her room.
Her gaze was so sharp that it caused the woman’s heart to jump for a mont; realizing that Su Shu dared not argue with her, her courage grew. Seeing Su Shu re-enter the tent, she quickly pulled the people next to her and started to complain and slander on a grand scale.
Luo Gang saw Su Shu leave and stood there for a while, the jibber-jabber behind him growing more and more disagreeable. He furrowed his brows and turned around.
“If you find it unsatisfactory here and want to leave, then make space quickly. The Soldiers aren’t stopping you from going.”
The woman was left speechless by Luo Gang’s curt words, unable to respond.
Luo Gang was unlike Su Shu; tall and brooding with a cold deanor, he seed like a towering mountain, and that noisy woman, confronted by him, lost her temper and beca as ek as a lamb.
