Chapter 142: Chapter 141: An Apocalyptic Life from Scratch (15)

Just like that, they quieted down for a while, and two little boys, one older and one younger, ran back thumping along, holding a bag in their arms. Su Shu saw that there were so edible snacks and tissues in the bag.

It didn’t seem like they were given out, but rather bought from a supermarket or convenience store outside of East City.

The two boys ran to the woman’s side and joyfully stuffed the food into their mother’s arms.

“Mom, look, look, Dad took us to buy it, and there are the sunflower seeds you like to eat!”

As he spoke, the older child reached out to take a sealed bag of sunflower seeds from inside, bit open the package with his baby teeth, and handed it to his mother.

The younger one nearly stuck his head into the bag, rummaging for sothing. After a while, he finally pulled out a bag of jellies and smiled very happily.

The two children surrounded Li Xiaoxia, chirping about what they saw outside.

On their faces, Su Shu saw no trace of the fear usually etched by disaster, but instead, the children’s curiosity and wondernt towards the unknown.

Even the disaster relief tents outside seed to them as full of fun as a fairy tale world.

Xiao’ai sat in her embrace, still quietly reading.

Li Xiaoxia asked the two boys, “Where is your dad?”

“Dad saw them setting up tents when he ca back and told us to co back first; he is outside helping the People’s Liberation Army uncles,” one of the boys answered.

“Has it stopped raining outside?”

“It stopped long ago, Mom, if we stay here for a few days, can we go ho then?” the eldest son asked.

“Yeah, when we get back, I want to rewatch all the cartoons,” the younger son chid in.

Li Xiaoxia smiled slightly, patting her younger son’s head, “Has your dad eaten anything?”

Food and supplies at the shelter were scarce, barely enough to stave off hunger. As the saying goes, small calves are not afraid of tigers, and considering her two sons’ hearty appetites, Li Xiaoxia’s husband had taken the boys to a convenience store outside to buy food.

They had heard that several supermarkets had reopened after the torrential rain, though the prices were sowhat high.

They happened to have money on them. Even if it was expensive, the most important thing was to ensure the family had sothing to eat and drink. In a few days, the supply at the shelter would hopefully increase, or perhaps they could even go ho once the disaster passed.

Before long, a tall man with short hair ca over. He first crouched down, hugged her upper body, lifting it slightly to adjust her back pillow, making sure she was more comfortable. Then he carefully rearranged the blanket corner and shooed his two mischievous sons to the side, tidying up the space that was his family’s temporary living area before sitting down next to it.

“Here, the hot water I brought back from outside,” he offered.

Li Xiaoxia took the cup, “I heard you were helping out there?”

The man looked down, fetched so pills from the small bag beside her, and handed them to her.

“Yes, there might be so trouble over at Linjiang, and so people were called away. There aren’t enough hands here, and I saw they were struggling, so I gave them a hand,” he replied.

“Mhm, you can help if you want; everyone’s having a hard ti. Just be careful,” she responded.

“I know, take your dicine,” he said in a low voice.

Li Xiaoxia tilted her head back, swallowed the pills with water, and after handing the cup back to her husband, she spoke to him in a gentle voice.

“When you were not around just now, a new girl ca with her kid,” Li Xiaoxia ntioned the newcors adjacent to them—Su Shu and Xiao’ai.

Hearing soone talking about her, Su Shu looked up and t Li Xiaoxia’s smiling face.

Luo Gang, with an indifferent expression, greeted, “Hello.”

“Hello,” Su Shu replied.

After the greeting, both of them returned to a respectful distance, not disturbing each other.
