This is a long standoff.

The Neo-Human seems to be quite adept at hiding, remaining concealed in the jungle all the while.

Drone surveillance has been circling around repeatedly with nothing found.

Lu Xi’an even tried leaving the car once, then felt utterly defeated and returned to it, wanting to lie down flat.

He wanted to use the opportunity to see if the Neo-Human would reveal any flaws when using their abilities, allowing the drone to detect them.

Yet in the end, it was futile; the drone found nothing.

Unfortunately, this machine obtained from Luo Ping could only search for things through its cara, and even though it was connected to Gou now, Gou could only receive video signals from the drone and nothing else.

Gou could, however, search through other ans.

But with Gou’s short little legs, although changed to wheels which can jam and work as paws at critical monts, in the jungle where the ground is uneven and overgrown with weeds, it’s inevitable Gou will have difficulty moving, and Lu Xi’an wasn’t confident having Gou venture alone.

Getting snagged in so pits and bumps was one thing, but if caught by the Neo-Human hidden in the shadows, that would surely outweigh the gains.

"Hey? Should we co out and chat?"

"Are you after this stone? Don’t do any moves in the dark, let’s have a conversation, maybe I’ll give it to you."

"How about I just throw it to you? Actually, there’s no need for us to be so tense, everything can be discussed. To be honest, this thing isn’t much use to us."

Lu Xi’an sat in the car with the door open, weighing the Fungus Stone, wrapped in wolf skin, in his hand, and loudly said several sentences.

But there was no response from the jungle, and the drone above didn’t find a thing.

The Neo-Human hidden in the shadows apparently didn’t believe Lu Xi’an’s words at all; no matter what Lu Xi’an said, there was no reaction.

Lu Xi’an thought for a while and simply threw the Fungus Stone out.

The uneven grass provided no elasticity, the wolf skin covering the stone hit the ground with a dull thud, rolled a bit, then stopped.

Yet still, there was no reaction.

Lu Xi’an was already prepared to just give the stone to the person if need be, but the person still refused to show up.

The world is such a place; nobody trusts genuine good words...

Now, Lu Xi’an could only be thankful for his battery anxiety, having charged the drone completely before the sudden incident.

At least now the machine can fly a bit longer, not running out of power too soon.

Even so, Lu Xi’an was already considering the issue of endurance.

He planned to wait a bit longer, if there still weren’t any discoveries, to have Gou control the drone to land on the tree branches at the edge of the jungle to save so power while keeping a constant watch.

Would that even extend the drone’s endurance for a while?

"Awoooo!!!!"

Just as they were pondering, both Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei suddenly heard a wolf howl.

The two looked towards the sound, only to see a pack of wolves coming through the jungle.

Those wolves seed to be the sa pack as earlier; they seed to have spotted the car and were cautiously approaching this way.

It’s unclear which wolf was leading; the pack was both advancing and spreading out, seemingly attempting to encircle the car.

"Gou, take another look!"

Lu Xi’an gritted his teeth and picked up his submachine gun, speaking.

In that instant, he suddenly understood the Neo-Human’s plan—

The Neo-Human probably didn’t have any direct ans to match force with himself and Yao Wei, thus never intending to engage in a direct confrontation from the beginning.

He used that peculiar ability to trap Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei on the car, purely keeping them there without other ans.

Given the prior information from the people in ngxin City’s area, the Neo-Human certainly knew there were wolves around here.

So his initial plan, after trapping Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei, was to wait for the wolves to appear.

He could control Lu Xi’an and Yao Wei via a certain mysterious component in his sweat, maybe he could control the wolf pack too...

Then when the wolves ca close, the person would likely use his ability.

Lu Xi’an thought that before, the person only used his ability on him and Yao Wei, requiring minor movents, but with so many wolves now, he’d have to exert power widely, which might lead to exposure.

Currently, making Gou control the drone for a thorough search might yield findings.

Moreover, there were no other options right now.

"Yao Wei, you monitor Gou, I’ll watch these wolves!"

Lu Xi’an made a decisive move, speaking to Yao Wei. At the sa ti, he swiftly took all the submachine gun bullets from his backpack and stuffed them into his pocket.

Cocking the gun, rapid-fire mode engaged.

For the mont, the key was to lay down cover, create intimidation, like in Mozhou City’s police station, accuracy wasn’t important, mainly suppressive firepower.

—Of course, assuming his thoughts were correct, Gou and the drone could seize the opportunity to discover the Neo-Human.

If not, then it couldn’t be helped, simply misfortune for himself and Yao Wei.

If exhausted and weary, offering oneself as a snack to the wolves, there indeed wasn’t much that could be done, beyond one’s control.

Yao Wei was no exception.

Then together they’d et inside a wolf’s stomach...

The wolf pack continued to close in, finally, as a surrounding was about to form, Lu Xi’an noticed the wolves suddenly had eyes turned red, bared teeth in a snarl, becoming vicious.

Lu Xi’an’s heart leaped, knowing this was surely the Neo-Human hidden in the shadow coming into effect.

The woman killed earlier ntioned that the Neo-Human’s ability could make people go berserk, clearly, at this mont, when applied to the wolves, the resulting emotion was this extre rage.

Perhaps there was... hatred?

"Awoooo!!!!"

The wolves lunged forward, and Lu Xi’an fired without hesitation.

He no longer cared whether his emotions might be disturbed in the next mont, nor if the shots were accurate, only aiming to unleash the firearm’s fire burst and suppress the wolves’ action.

"Tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat—"

The gunshots erupted, and it indeed sowhat held the wolves back, preventing them from all rushing forward; so retreated after being hit, others turned trying to bypass.

Right at that mont, in Yao Wei’s hand, the chanical dog’s eyes suddenly brightened, illuminating a specific spot in the jungle.

The beams of light emitted from the dog’s eyes were so bright, slanting down onto the ground.

"Yao Wei!"

Lu Xi’an noticed and called out a reminder.

Yao Wei certainly noticed as well, almost at the instant Lu Xi’an spoke, she raised her hand and fired the handgun.

"Bang!"

The gunshot was much quieter and crisper than the submachine gun’s sound, yet sohow inexplicably felt deafening.

In that mont, Lu Xi’an suddenly felt spiritless, with the submachine gun in hand just thinking and stopped firing, even as the wolf’s maw arrived before him, thinking perhaps being eaten by wolves was alright.

The Neo-Human’s thods indeed took effect, staggered in timing with those used previously on the wolves; it seed there were indeed so restrictions to using such powers.

Thus those thods overlapped almost simultaneously with the sound of Yao Wei’s gunshot.

With the "Bang" of the gunfire, Lu Xi’an’s consciousness was abruptly pulled back, seeing the wolf’s maw before him, suddenly realizing, cold sweat pouring.

He quickly raised a hand, grabbing the neck of the wolf lunging at him, applying force.

"Crunch—"

The wolf’s head tilted to one side.
