Many tis I almost died, but survived again, and managed to fend off the pack of wolves all by myself for such a long ti, until the wolves were too afraid to approach.

The image that suddenly materialized in my mind beca vividly familiar.

—Could it be anyone but Luo Ping?!

"You almost died several tis, to what extent?"

He couldn’t help but ask, and after asking, he felt that the way he said it wasn’t quite appropriate, so he quickly corrected himself, "I an, how severe were the injuries?"

Chai Xin recalled for a mont and said, "Every ti was different, but it always felt like if the injuries got a little worse, I would die."

"So, how do you heal?"

Lu Xi’an asked again.

Chai Xin said, "I just recover slowly. If the injuries are too severe, it takes a long ti to heal, and that’s the most dangerous because I can’t go out to find food.

"There were several tis when I almost starved to death."

When she ntioned starving, she showed so residual fear, which was absent when she talked about her injuries or the past events in Tongzhou County.

Clearly, for the young girl curled up in the space between the front and back seats, the fear and mory of almost starving to death were the most profound and terrifying.

Lu Xi’an nodded.

This was different from his mories of Luo Ping.

This Type B Neo-Human Luo Ping could eat when close to death and then be fully revived, but Chai Xin wasn’t like that; she could only slowly recover.

Perhaps Chai Xin is another kind of Neo-Human?

Lost in such random thoughts, Lu Xi’an decided to give up on speculation and directly asked, "Are you a Neo-Human?"

"Neo-Human?"

Chai Xin was taken aback and bitterly smiled, "How is that possible?! If I were a Neo-Human, how could I be driven out from Tongzhou County?

"Moreover, if I were a Neo-Human, my dad would be one too, how could he be killed so easily?"

She sighed and said wistfully, "If only I were a Neo-Human... Aren’t you all Neo-Humans? I can tell, you all look beautiful.

"I am younger than you, but my face has more wrinkles, my hair is like weeds, and my teeth are crooked and yellow... I really wish I could be like you."

It was at this point that she showed the deanor of a little girl, unlike before when her tone and expression were mature, oddly detached from her physical appearance.

Lu Xi’an saw her sadness and decided to end the conversation.

He pondered to himself and suddenly had a different line of thought—

He had considered before, that in this world even ordinary people are far beyond what one might consider an ordinary person in the past.

Without a thermoter, he didn’t know the exact temperature, but he felt that today’s extre cold has reached dozens of degrees below zero, far colder than minus twenty or thirty degrees in the past, which seems trivial compared to the extres now.

But people, animals, and plants in this world can sohow survive these harsh temperatures.

In the past, without heating, people couldn’t withstand such temperatures.

Perhaps, even the ordinary people surviving in this world are Neo-Humans, albeit with differences among them.

Thus, people like Chai Xin might have an excellent physical foundation, possessing a resilient spirit under extre conditions, allowing them to unleash strength far beyond the average person, which is normal.

—Of course, these are just Lu Xi’an’s speculations; whether they match reality will depend on future clues and slow verification.

He kept this in mind, thinking he could explore it further when given the chance.

He found enjoynt in such contemplations. In this kind of world, finding goals, finding things to do was quite a pleasant pasti.

Having finished these thoughts, Lu Xi’an looked at Yao Wei, only to find her staring at Chai Xin, her gaze devoid of much emotion, simply observing.

It seed this woman remained steadfastly indifferent, unconcerned with others or the world; Chai Xin’s pitiful words ant nothing to Yao Wei.

Perhaps if he spoke pitifully himself, Yao Wei’s expression might change?

But what sorrowful words could he say?

Lu Xi’an felt a bit regretful for not being able to observe the change in Yao Wei’s expressions.

"What are your plans after finding us?"

He asked Chai Xin a question.

Unexpectedly, as soon as he asked, Yao Wei suddenly turned to look at him with a gaze that seed a bit hostile...

What’s going on?!

Chai Xin scratched her head and said, "I haven’t really thought it through yet..."

As soon as she uttered these words, she suddenly saw Yao Wei looking her way again, her eyes still calm and indifferent, but for so reason, Chai Xin felt intimidated, causing her voice to stutter.

"I, I, I... just want to do sothing, or else I’ll die. I, I really haven’t thought about anything else..."

Lu Xi’an smacked his lips, smiling unconsciously. He had just thought there’d be no chance to observe Yao Wei’s expression changes, but now the opportunity was here.

This woman is still afraid of contact with more people.

She was rejecting Chai Xin’s presence here.

He bowed his head in thought for a mont and asked Yao Wei, "What about introducing her to Luo Ping?"

Yao Wei’s eyes instantly lit up, her expression softened, though without a smile, sohow Lu Xi’an and Chai Xin felt it was akin to sunshine breaking through the clouds, warm and gentle.

"Okay."

For once she used two words to express her agreent; she usually responded with one, like "Mm," "Good," or "Alright."

Lu Xi’an then spoke to Chai Xin, "We have a friend who lives in the south. The environnt there is better than here, and food is not as scarce as here. If you’re okay with it, I can introduce you there."

He didn’t imdiately disclose Luo Ping’s secret base, as Luo Ping had ntioned that it was in Shanyang County, Pingchuan City, and Lu Xi’an rembered it but didn’t reveal it yet.

Though he hadn’t communicated much with Luo Ping, Lu Xi’an already thought of him as a pretty good person, perhaps even a friend. Luo Ping wanted good people around, but at this mont, Lu Xi’an couldn’t yet determine if Chai Xin was good or bad.

He couldn’t introduce her so casually and risk exposing Luo Ping.

Perhaps they could send this young girl further south, observe her more, and once they left ngxin City, they could direct her to find Luo Ping.

Unexpectedly, at the re ntion of such a vague suggestion, Chai Xin seed to seize a life-saving straw, nodding heavily, "Sure, sure! Thank you, thank you!

"I won’t let you introduce for nothing. I have sothing good hidden in my lair; when the snow lts here, I’ll fetch it for you."
