Chapter 104: Sudden Retreat
Alex ran up to the second floor of the villa.
Mia and Olivia had just watched him make a perilous leap from the helicopter and fall directly into the yard, their hearts almost jumping out of their chests.
For the mont, they couldn’t care less about firing at the mbers of the Police Station on the ground. They hurried to Alex’s side to check on his condition.
Mia even directly activated her “Healing” skill and used it on Alex, who was panting heavily after taking off his battle suit.
“Are you trying to get yourself killed? Jumping from such a height, do you really think you’re a superhero?” Mia scolded.
Olivia joined in, berating him, “Alex, you idiot! Do you have any idea how close we were to tears just now?”
Gradually, color returned to Alex’s pale face as he chuckled, “You’ve already cried, haven’t you…”
Olivia burst into tears at his remark and slapped him on the shoulder.
“And you’re still being cheeky!”
Then, realizing she might have hit him too hard, she apologized softly.
“Sorry…”
Alex waved it off and said to the two won, “Sorry, I really worried you this ti.”
Mia intervened diplomatically, saying, “It’s okay, as long as you’re alright. Now let’s see how this group of people on the ground deals with the situation.”
Alex and Olivia nodded.
Outside the villa, the sheriff and others watched as the helicopter wobbled in the sky, then saw 10086, clad in silver armor, jump out of it. Their hearts skipped a beat.
Their expectations were t.
The helicopter crashed into the woods outside the villa area in full view of everyone.
The sound of the explosion told them that the people on the helicopter were probably dead.
Thomas was up there!
He wasn’t like his useless brother, who hadn’t awakened any skills even after reaching level ten.
Such a promising candidate for the developnt of the “Fire Fist” skill, and he died just like that?!
The sheriff felt a pang of sorrow.
And now, the last helicopter of the Police Station was gone…
Now, there was an even more pressing issue before the sheriff.
Should they continue the deadly fight or retreat?
The ground forces of the Police Station had almost run out of ammunition.
They still couldn’t break through the “Energy Shield”.
Despair crept into everyone’s hearts.
Now, with the helicopter crashed, the situation was even more dire.
The mbers of the Police Station already had sowhat bleak hearts, and now they were covered with an even thicker layer of gloom.
They had lost their morale.
This ti, it was a complete unilateral loss for the Police Station, losing both the battle and their dignity.
While there was still so strength left, they decided to retreat imdiately, hoping for a chance to rise again.
The sheriff waved his hand weakly.
“Retreat.”
Such an outco was unexpected.
The sheriff hadn’t anticipated returning ho empty-handed.
And all of this, to a large extent, was because of the “Energy Shield”.
That platinum-level defense chanism!
The platinum-level supplies that should have belonged to the Police Station!
The sheriff wished he could tear Alex apart.
Using what should have been mine to fight against is simply shaful!
That’s what the sheriff thought.
He questioned himself, having navigated the rcenary circle for so many years, and no one had ever managed to snatch anything from his grasp.
Even after coming to the post-apocalyptic world, Alex was the first.
But now, the sheriff had to admit that if they continued to struggle, his Police Station might crumble.
Supplies could be gathered again, but if people died and supplies were lost, then the Police Station would truly be finished.
So, when 001 heard the sheriff’s order to retreat, he imdiately contacted Quinn via the radio.
They gathered the remaining forces of the Police Station and retreated.
As they left, the sheriff cast a deep glance at Alex.
He would co back!
This ti, 10086 got lucky.
Next ti, when the Police Station developed the old city area and obtained higher-level supplies, they would co back stronger than ever.
Then it would be 10086’s death sentence!
The sheriff’s blood boiled with determination.
Even when humiliated, he had made a three-year pact with his fiancée, vowing to vindicate himself three years later.
This ti, he had taken a hit.
But next ti, he would still be able to reclaim his dignity!
Alex and his companions watched the sheriff’s unexpected retreat with so surprise.
It feels like the foreplay was just completed after much effort, and shortly after entering the main act, it abruptly ends, just like that.
You see, the Police Station was bombarding relentlessly for a dozen or so minutes.
If it weren’t for the energy shield, it would have been enough to blast through the S-alloy walls.
But even with such ferocity, the Police Station retreated when the energy shield had less than thirty percent of its energy remaining!
Mia looked puzzled, sowhat disbelieving.
“The Police Station actually retreated?! It’s so strange!”
At this point, all the mbers of the Police Station outside the villa had already withdrawn.
Covering each other, they quickly evacuated from the villa compound.
They didn’t imdiately take out any transportation but instead jogged away, getting out of the shooting range of Alex and the others.
Olivia also couldn’t understand what was going on.
They were still tense inside the energy shield, but the Police Station actually withdrew?!
Alex joked, “Could it be that they ran out of ammunition? Otherwise, a hasty retreat doesn’t seem like the sheriff’s style.”
After saying that, Alex fell silent.
He realized that he might have inadvertently guessed so of the real facts.
After hearing this, Mia and Olivia also nodded in agreent.
“It must be so.”
“They either didn’t have enough ammunition to continue the attack, or they were running so low that they couldn’t afford to waste any more, so they had to call it quits.”
Indeed.
If the Police Station didn’t have insufficient ammunition, they would never have let Alex and his group off so easily.
Their hasty retreat at this mont was obviously due to so external factors.
Alex suddenly smiled.
“If that’s the case, then I must take advantage of their weakness and finish them off.”
The Police Station had been so domineering, even flaunting their power right at his doorstep.
Alex couldn’t let that slide.
Realizing that the Police Station lacked firepower, he was certain not to miss this opportunity.
Olivia looked at Alex, her eyes shimring with determination.
Clearly, she also had so ideas in mind.
She could sense that Alex might have so plans and wanted to confirm them.
“Alex, what are you planning to do?”
Alex smiled faintly and took out his battle-worn armor.
“Naturally, I’ll pursue them while they’re weak.”
Olivia also smiled.
“This is what they call ‘kicking soone while they’re down’.”
