Chapter 25: Stead bun
Su Yinhe was not stingy about the soybeans; now with a large family business to run, such a small amount of soybeans was of no concern to her.
She was worried, though, that eating the soybeans directly could cause them problems and delay the making of soy milk.
During the days since her arrival, she had noticed that hygiene among the people post-apocalypse was alarming; it was not unusual for them to go ten days or even half a month without bathing.
These n seed very clean, but if they fell ill, where would Chi Yan find more workers?
They surely couldn’t wait yet another day.
Especially since she felt a bit guilty about only offering a bit of soybeans, she decided to provide a al as well.
...
Su Yinhe brought out over thirty large white stead buns for their breakfast.
Li Qiao’s eyes widened at the sight of the large white stead buns emitting a sweet aroma.
“For us?” he wondered in awe. Had he misheard just now? Did this person say she was giving them these stead buns for breakfast?
“Mhm. Eat first, then work hard.”
After Su Yinhe took out the stead buns, the n, who had been eyeing the soybeans, stopped looking at the buns and instead stared at them in disbelief.
Li Qiao’s hands trembled as he took the bag of stead buns.
But no sooner had he taken it than he, along with those around him, beca too impatient to wait and started grabbing for the buns.
They were still suspicious that Su Yinhe might have misspoken, but the prospect of filling their stomachs cast away such doubts.
All they saw now were the stead buns.
They would eat first and worry about the rest later.
Li Qiao was the first one to bite into a stead bun.
The mont the soft, aromatic taste and the sweetness of the starch hit his mouth, he almost broke into tears from emotion.
After gobbling up one bun, he fiercely reached for a second one.
Seeing their starving condition, Su Yinhe had intentionally brought thirty buns; there were only five of them, so six buns each should more than suffice.
The buns were not small.
Three per person would be more than enough, but she brought extra, understanding that they probably had not had a full al in a long ti since the apocalypse.
It turned out Su Yinhe was right in bringing more, as she watched them devour the stead buns hungrily.
So, despite feeling uncomfortably full, were reluctant to leave any behind and kept stuffing them into their mouths.
Who knew when they would next have their fill?
Eat as much as possible now.
There were others who simply couldn’t eat anymore, so they tucked the buns into their clothes, saving them to bring ho to their families.
While they ate the stead buns, Su Yinhe didn’t neglect herself; she took a few sandwiches and several bottles of Yantang milk.
She also asked Chi Yan and Lin Murong.
Chi Yan took a sandwich and two bottles of milk, while Lin Murong indicated he wanted whatever Su Yinhe left uneaten.
Watching Lin Murong’s eager eyes, Su Yinhe only took one bottle of milk and gave the rest to him.
She had eaten breakfast before coming out, and now it was just the sight of the n eating so voraciously that whetted her own appetite.
After finishing the white stead buns, Li Qiao and his peers started working. Now they worked with renewed vigor.
Miss Su had said she would cover lunch and dinner too.
They didn’t expect Miss Su to give them as many buns as she did for breakfast; even just one white stead bun each al would be a win.
The white stead buns Miss Su provided were still warm, fragrant, and soft, so much tastier than the gruel.
The well-fed n worked extrely hard.
Chi Yan had allocated three stone mills, and the five n took turns using them.
Seeing their diligent work, Su Yinhe thought for a mont and then asked Lin Murong to carry a table and three stools down from the supermarket.
It wasn’t unreasonable for Lin Murong to move so things after he had had her breakfast, right?
As for why she didn’t ask Chi Yan…
Su Yinhe felt that Chi Yan wasn’t cut out for the hard labor of moving things around.
After Lin Murong moved the tables and chairs down, Su Yinhe went up to cook a large pot of mung bean soup. With the weather like this, if you’re going to have people work, you must prepare so drinks to cool them down.
Her pot was high-tech, capable of cooking mung bean soup on its own, so she didn’t watch over it. After noting the ti, she ca down.
On her way down, she also made three cups of fruit tea.
One cup for each person.
After Chi Yan received his fruit tea, he imdiately stored it in his space, since the ice in the fruit tea would lt if left out for too long, and he’d already drunk a bottle of milk, preferring not to have the tea just yet.
As for Lin Murong, his stomach was like a bottomless pit.
After eating several sandwiches and drinking a few bottles of milk, it was as if he hadn’t filled up at all, sitting and gulping down his fruit tea earnestly.
Su Yinhe held her fruit tea and drank it slowly.
Each of the three sat on their own stool in the shade acting as supervisors.
It was quite pleasant.
Su Yinhe had given herself a day off; the supermarket business was suspended for now.
She put up a sign to inform custors.
Although the people who ca to shop had so objections, they didn’t dare to say much, since they were the ones who wanted to buy, and they were the ones asking for a favor.
However, having gotten used to comfort at ho, Su Yinhe felt one cup of fruit tea wasn’t enough.
After finishing the fruit tea, she went up to get the mung bean soup and conveniently made so fried chicken, grabbed so burgers, desserts, and colas from the supermarket, and made a few more drinks.
When she brought everything down, Lin Murong felt that he had been wrong to criticize Chi Yan for being extravagant.
Compared with Su Yinhe, Chi Yan didn’t count as extravagant at all.
“Go ahead and eat, don’t be shy.”
“Is this a burger?”
“Yeah.”
“Fried chicken?”
“Right.”
Lin Murong’s eyes widened—fried chicken! This was actually real fried chicken!
Slling the aroma of the fried chicken, he felt like he’d entered heaven. The mont Lin Murong bit into the fried chicken, he was moved to tears.
After many years, he was finally eating fried chicken again.
Chi Yan was a fussy person. Although he had hoarded quite a bit, things like fried chicken, burgers, and fries from the stores had gone bad after the apocalypse, and he would never store such spoiled food in his space.
Even if they found these foods at that ti and they still had a bit of taste, Lin Murong felt they weren’t spoiled to the point of being harmful; eating them in moderation wouldn’t kill anyone. Besides, it would be difficult to produce such foods again in the future, so they should be preserved.
But Chi Yan simply refused.
After entering those supermarkets, Chi Yan wouldn’t even bother to collect cola; he’d only gather mineral water and fruit juice. Cola was considered junk food to him, generally not worth considering, and he wouldn’t collect it specifically.
While there were a few cans stored, Chi Yan didn’t drink it, but Lin Murong did. After knowing that Chi Yan didn’t drink cola, Lin Murong volunteered to help consu it.
However, the supply of cola in Chi Yan’s space was already small and quickly ran out.
So, Lin Murong hadn’t drunk any for several years.
Lin Murong initially felt a bit full, but after seeing the treats Su Yinhe brought down, he felt he could go for more.
Lin Murong ate his fried chicken and burgers and drank cola, blissful as an immortal.
Su Yinhe wasn’t much interested in these, with the hot weather and sitting outside the supermarket without air conditioning, she didn’t have much of an appetite and just wanted to drink the cold, ice-cold fruit tea.
As for Chi Yan, he had no interest in such junk food; he was only interested in the desserts.
He too enjoyed his treats.
All three were very satisfied.
However, as Lin Murong was eating, he once again ruefully wished he were a Space Ability User, since he couldn’t eat anymore.
After shalessly asking Su Yinhe, he turned to beg Chi Yan, who made so snide remarks before reluctantly storing Lin Murong’s leftover fried chicken, burgers, and cola into his space.
