Chapter 23: Soy milk

When he was searching for supplies because of the chaos, Chi Yan picked up everything he thought he could use.

There was naturally no shortage of food.

Rice, flour, and the like. He stockpiled plenty.

Then Chi Yan, the wasteful fool, hated the idea of zombies dirtying his hands while prying out Crystal Cores, so he used food to hire people to do it for him.

He would also be lazy at tis, not wanting to fight zombies, instead using food and so daily necessities to hire people to clear the way and scavenge for him.

He even bartered food for so useless items like massage chairs, tea, coffee machines…

...

“Can you believe this guy?” Lin Murong ranted after betraying his friend, then rhetorically asked.

Su Yinhe: “… Yeah. It’s normal. Within his capability, he’s just trying to live a little better, which is human nature.”

Chi Yan was a bit picky.

But that was also normal.

He was trading with his own stuff.

“You don’t know, everyone was starving while Chi Yan was blatantly using food to buy services, almost got killed for it. Everyone wanted to tie him up, force him to give up his food. There was even a group playing on his morality, bringing a bunch of old folk and kids to kneel and beg for their lives, pleading for him to distribute his food.” Chi Yan, carrying a fortune, didn’t hold back, and at the ti everyone was eyeing him like a piece of fatty at.

“So what did he do?” Su Yinhe didn’t think Chi Yan was the type to succumb to moral exploitation.

“He killed them,” Lin Murong shrugged.

When Lin Murong first t Chi Yan, he thought Chi Yan was gentle, but he didn’t expect that when Chi Yan killed people, he wouldn’t even blink.

The first ti he killed a zombie after the apocalypse, he even threw up.

His hands were shaking after he first killed a person at the beginning of the apocalypse.

Only for Chi Yan, killing zombies and people was as simple as eating a al.

“Has he traded away so much stuff, does he still have anything left in his space?”

“Definitely. Still plenty. Food, necessities, he’s got it all. But he’s picky. Like the rice, he’s already eaten all the good quality ones, doesn’t even want to touch the rest.”

“Chi Yan is the most ruthlessly insane person I’ve ever known. He actually uses supplies to get people to cook like crazy for him, then stores it in his space. Breakfasts, als… He even found a stone mill, got soone to make soy milk for him.” Talking about Chi Yan, Lin Murong felt like he could go on for days.

Su Yinhe nodded in agreent: “He’s quite maniacally insane.”

“But what does the stone-mill soy milk taste like?” Su Yinhe was curious; she had only had soy milk made with a household juicer, from breakfast stalls, soy milk powder, and the store-bought ones.

Would stone-mill soy milk taste better?

Looking at the curious Su Yinhe, Lin Murong fell silent for a mont.

It felt like both the boss and Chi Yan were sowhat abnormal.

No, no, no.

One weirdo was enough; how could there be another?

Lin Murong didn’t want to believe that Su Yinhe was as ntally odd as Chi Yan.

“Maybe… ask Brother Chi to bring out the stone mill, and we’ve got soybeans in the supermarket, right?” Lin Murong felt he was being led astray, even giving out ideas.

“We have, and also mung beans, red beans, black beans…”

The supermarket had a variety of beans, which Su Yinhe listed one by one.

This was really another abnormal one.

When Chi Yan was done moving things, he found a dispirited Lin Murong and a wildly joyful Su Yinhe.

“Done buying, check the total,” Chi Yan had already calculated the price, and it was just enough.

“Mhm,” Su Yinhe nodded obediently.

“That…” Su Yinhe looked at him.

“What’s up?” Chi Yan’s tone was gentle, completely different from the Chi Yan described by Lin Murong.

“Could I borrow your stone mill?” The supermarket was stocked with many things, but even it didn’t have a stone mill.

Su Yinhe’s eyes were full of expectation.

“I want to try bean milk made with a stone mill.”

She wanted to see how it differed from the bean milk made with a juicer.

“Stone mill? How did you know I have…” Halfway through his sentence, Chi Yan glanced at the guilty-looking Lin Murong.

Lin Murong smiled at him appeasingly.

“If you want, I can give it to you.” Since he bought a lot of small cakes today, Chi Yan was in a good mood and offered it for free right away.

As for the stone mill, he had collected several in his storage, so giving one away was no problem.

“Really?” Su Yinhe didn’t expect him to be so generous.

“But, do you know how to use it?”

Su Yinhe: “… It seems like I don’t really know how.”

“How about this, I’ll co again tomorrow and bring soone who knows how to use it. What do you want to grind with it?”

“Bean milk!”

After Su Yinhe finished those two words, Lin Murong felt even more guilty, bowing his head, praying that Chi Yan couldn’t see him.

But being a tall man, at such a close distance, Chi Yan could easily see him even if he were severely nearsighted, not to ntion that he wasn’t.

“Once it’s ground, can I buy so from you?” Chi Yan rembered that he hadn’t had bean milk for a long ti.

“No need to buy. You bring the person, pay his wages, and I’ll provide the materials. We’ll split the bean milk halfway.” It turned out Chi Yan was at a slight disadvantage.

He had to give the stone mill, pay soone’s wages, and find soone.

While she only needed to provide so materials.

Thinking about it, Su Yinhe added, “I’ll provide the containers too.”

“Okay. See you tomorrow.” Thinking about having bean milk soon made Chi Yan’s mood much brighter.

“Tomorrow… wait a second.” Su Yinhe rembered that the supermarket actually also sold milk tea, so she ran over to make Chi Yan a grape bubble tea herself, knowing he liked sweet things, she made it very sweet.

Lin Murong didn’t forget either, he also made one, but with less sugar.

When they put them in bags, they also packed a lot of ice cubes.

When Su Yinhe passed it over, Lin Murong’s eyes widened.

“Is this… fruit tea?!”

Compared to him, Chi Yan was much calr.

But his eyes seed a bit rounder too.

Su Yinhe wasn’t sure why her sight was so good, able to notice such details even through glasses.

“Here.” She handed each a cup.

She skipped adding labels as she found them troubleso.

But knowing the tea shop had various types of bags and cups, she chose two different bags, avoiding any confusion.

“Boss, you’re simply like a fairy.” Because he gulped it down in one go, Lin Murong quickly abandoned his dignity, deciding to act like a total flatterer.

Although it’s debatable whether he actually had any dignity to begin with.

“Heh. Do co again. See you tomorrow.” Su Yinhe was slightly embarrassed.

Chi Yan, observing Lin Murong’s embarrassing behavior, began to reconsider his choices. He shouldn’t have brought Lin Murong along.

“See you tomorrow.” Chi Yan suddenly stepped forward and shook Su Yinhe’s hand.

Because of handling the ice for the milk tea, Su Yinhe’s hand was a bit cold, whereas Chi Yan’s hand was warm.

When he grasped her hand, Su Yinhe felt a slight burn.

Chi Yan was very tactful and let go before Su Yinhe could even react.
