Chapter 111: Lean at Porridge

Then he saw Chi Yan.

“Sorry to disturb you.”

The mont they spotted Chi Yan, they turned in unison and ran off with all speed.

Su Yinhe: “???”

“It’s still Brother Chi, after all.” Lin Murong comnted leisurely.

Could Chi Yan be that scary?

Su Yinhe stole a glance at him.

Chi Yan noticed and flashed her a smile.

Su Yinhe was so startled that she imdiately whipped her head back around.

After the barbecue, cleaning wasn’t tough; Chi Yan had space superpowers, and with just a wave of his hand, he could pack everything away.

Nightti.

As Su Yinhe lay in her tent, she felt uneasy, longing for her bed at ho. The tent was too cramped; there wasn’t enough room for her to stretch out.

She tossed and turned, couldn’t sleep, then pulled out her tablet to furiously binge a couple of lodramatic episodes.

She grew tired.

And fell asleep.

When she woke up the next day, Su Yinhe discovered she was sore all over.

So, when she went out, she was holding her back. Lin Murong just happened to co out too. Seeing Su Yinhe’s posture, he first looked confused, then his face took on a look that said, “I get it.”

Su Yinhe: “…”

For so reason, she suddenly thought he was acting a bit smug.

“Galaxy, what are we having for breakfast? How about so congee?” Lin Murong wanted to co over and help her, but his hand hovered awkwardly, not knowing how to assist. Then he seed to rember sothing and retracted his hand.

“I’m good with anything.” Su Yinhe said, withdrawing her hand with a sullen face.

“Then let’s have congee. I’ve made lean pork congee.”

“You’re up early, then,” Su Yinhe remarked, sowhat surprised.

“Of course, I’m diligent. Galaxy, are you sure you don’t need a son? Or even a daughter, I could cross-dress…”

Su Yinhe: “Get lost.”

“Okay.”

Lin Murong’s lean pork congee was actually quite good, lavishly topped with green onions.

“Where’s Chi Yan? Isn’t he eating?” Su Yinhe asked while she sipped the congee and thought of Chi Yan.

“He’s not eating. He’s not up yet.” They had gone to sleep too late last night, which for Chi Yan was equivalent to staying up all night.

Chi Yan would probably sleep late for the next few days to make up for the all-nighter.

Su Yinhe was silent for a mont.

So, Chi Yan can be a sluggard.

He doesn’t look the part though.

“Anyway, where did you get the ingredients?” she asked. Rice and at she could understand, but green onions?

“Chi Yan gave them to last night.” Lin Murong scooped up a big spoonful of congee. It was perfectly cooked, thick and savory.

“This is all thanks to you, Galaxy. If you hadn’t co, Brother Chi would’ve just given a plain bun and be done with it. There’d be no rice, no at, no green onions.”

Su Yinhe’s hand paused.

She was at a loss whether to accept the complint or not.

“Galaxy, you… oh well. You have a supermarket, after all.” There was a mont when Lin Murong wanted to invite Su Yinhe to co live with them for the sake of his bright future.

But then he rembered that Su Yinhe already had such a large supermarket.

Just thinking about it made Lin Murong quite sad.

Why couldn’t he have a supermarket capable of mutation?

A pot of mutating lean pork congee wouldn’t be too bad either.

But they didn’t seem to have any inclination to mutate.

With sorrow, Lin Murong gulped down eight big bowls of congee.

Su Yinhe: “…”

She didn’t understand how it all suddenly beca so emo.

“Don’t be sad; you can always co to my supermarket to shop.” Su Yinhe said comfortingly as she patted his shoulder. She wasn’t tired of Sun Base yet and had no plans to move her supermarket to other bases.

“I thought you’d say that soday I’ll have a supermarket like yours. Can’t you at least wish that much?” Lin Murong looked at her with sorrow in his eyes.

Su Yinhe: “…”

People shouldn’t dream during the day.

Because it turns into a daydream.

After breakfast, Su Yinhe strolled over to the market, ready to continue her treasure hunt.

Lin Murong was being emo, and Su Yinhe disdained him, deciding not to take him with her. She went alone.

Bringing an emo person would affect her treasure-hunting mood.

Maybe because she beca famous yesterday for trading rice for so useless jewelry, there were especially many vendors out today, particularly jewelry stalls.

Old Wang, the vendor Su Yinhe had monopolized yesterday, ca up to greet her as soon as he saw her.

“Boss, you’ve co again. I’ve prepared even more jewelry than yesterday. Do you want to take a look?” Old Wang’s face was full of wrinkles as he smiled.

He had made two bags of rice yesterday, a whole two bags.

That was enough to feed his family for several months.

If they were careful, it might even last a year.

And so, suspecting that Su Yinhe might co again today, he’d rummaged through his house for those useless pieces of jewelry, cleaned them up, and had brought them to the market early in the morning.

Hoping to encounter Su Yinhe.

To exchange for another two bags of rice.

Oh no, even one would do.

As long as he could make the exchange.

Before the apocalypse, Old Wang was a wealthy second-generation, his days spent gaming and purchasing equipnt; his wife liked to buy small pieces of jewelry.

After the apocalypse, all his gear beca useless.

During the early days of the apocalypse, it was his wife’s jewelry that helped them buy food to survive.

But the apocalypse dragged on too long, and little by little, jewelry lost its worth.

At first, it could be traded for food, but as ti went by, it beca harder to exchange for anything.

Still, when Old Wang had ti, he would set up a stall. So female Superpower Users liked these shiny trinkets and would sotis buy them with surplus food.

In such cases, he made a profit.

It added so inco to the family.

And here he was, setting up his stall as usual, earning it big.

He’d t Su Yinhe.

Old Wang never imagined that soone would be willing to trade two bags of rice for those pieces of jewelry.

When he carried the two bags of rice ho last night and cooked rice with his wife, they were so happy that he hugged his wife for two whole hours.

His wife was stronger than him; those equipnt items he bought were useless, but the jewelry she bought had exchanged for their sustenance.

His wife had the better eye.

Su Yinhe squatted down and picked through the items for a long ti, sadly realizing that she couldn’t discern the fine from the dross.

Having been poor for too long, she had no idea how to judge the value of the jewelry, nor whether it was genuine or fake.

She only looked at whether it was pretty or not.

Old Wang’s wife had good taste in picking out jewelry; these pieces were very much to her aesthetic.

Su Yinhe picked for a long ti but couldn’t make up her mind.

Then again, she thought, with so much rice in hand, she was a wealthy person in this post-apocalyptic world.

What does a wealthy person have to pick and choose?

Might as well take it all.

Even if it was all fake, wearing a different piece each day would make her happy.

It was cheap to buy happiness with so rice.

Besides, it was rice that didn’t cost her anything.

It was only because she had been poor for so long that she couldn’t shift her mindset montarily.

“I’ll take them all,” declared the recalibrated Su Yinhe with a bold statent.

“Alrighty, I’ll wrap them up for you,” Old Wang promptly pulled up the piece of black cloth from the ground and began wrapping up the jewelry.

Very casually.

As Old Wang was wrapping, he suddenly realized that perhaps he had been a bit too casual.

He glanced at Su Yinhe sowhat sheepishly.

“Sorry about that, should I rewrap them for you…?”

“No need, this is fine,” Su Yinhe said. After all, there was no need for extravagance with such cheap items.
