A sudden, unfamiliar sound shattered the eerie silence, making Lin Xian and KIKI tense up instantly. Their eyes darted around, searching for the source.
Because this level was so vast, composed entirely of rows upon rows of towering display shelves and corridors, it felt like wandering through a massive museum. Sounds echoed unpredictably, making it impossible to determine their origin.
Lin Xian’s nerves tightened. “We’re not alone down here.”
KIKI instantly grew anxious. She quickly checked the route on her mobile terminal before looking around nervously. “We need to hurry! There’s a corridor up ahead—once we get through it, we’ll reach the Gene Cryo-Storage Facility.”
Without hesitation, Lin Xian tightened his grip on his Electric Blade and moved forward, his senses heightened to the max.
Scrape…
That sound ca again—this ti, from just a few rows of shelves away, running parallel to them.
Tap. Tap.
Lin Xian and KIKI broke into a jog, their tactical flashlight beams swaying wildly through the darkness, illuminating the cold black floor ahead.
Scrape…
The dragging noise persisted. Lin Xian’s stomach clenched—he had already covered a significant distance, yet the sound stayed right alongside them, never too far, always just beyond the shelves.
As they turned into a long, dimly lit corridor, sothing strange happened. Whether it was an illusion or sothing in the air, Lin Xian noticed their flashlights dimming. The darkness ahead grew thicker, swallowing their vision like an ink-black void.
At the sa ti, the scraping noise suddenly erged—this ti, just behind them.
Scrape…
“Ah! Lin Xian!”
KIKI let out a startled cry. She wasn’t as fast as Lin Xian, so he instinctively reached out, grabbed her hand, and pulled her along at full speed.
The sound of their hurried footsteps echoed through the massive corridor, amplifying their anxiety. KIKI’s heart pounded as she clung to her mobile terminal with her free hand.
Then—
That horrifying scraping noise ca again.
This ti, it felt like it was right behind her.
KIKI’s instincts kicked in. Without thinking, she yanked her hand free and unleashed her Ability in a wild, sweeping motion.
BZZT!
An invisible force erupted from her palm, sending a powerful shockwave rippling through the air.
A muffled THUD followed—sothing had definitely been blasted away!
“Lin Xian! There’s sothing behind us!”
“I know!”
Lin Xian kept running, but KIKI was visibly struggling to keep up. Unlike him, her Ability didn’t enhance her physical attributes. Lin Xian had grown significantly stronger since gaining his enhancents, but KIKI’s stamina was still that of an ordinary human.
She was already gasping for breath.
Tap. Tap.
They burst through the corridor, finally reaching an area bathed in an eerie, bluish glow. White mist swirled in the passage ahead, shrouding everything in a ghostly haze.
“Wait—wasn’t the power supposed to be out?”
“Cryo chambers usually have independent ergency power. But judging by this fog, one of the storage units must have a leak.”
Lin Xian quickly checked the Geiger Counter in his hand. Both he and KIKI were wearing gas masks, but aside from that, they had no additional protection.
“We need to go through here!” KIKI urged.
They rushed into the mist-filled passageway. The freezing vapor swallowed them whole, reducing visibility to near zero. Lin Xian gripped his blade tightly in one hand, while his other hand clutched KIKI’s wrist.
“Hello.”
A voice suddenly echoed ahead.
It was soft. Childlike.
Yet, the mont Lin Xian and KIKI heard it, an unbearable chill ran down their spines.
It wasn’t just because the voice ca out of nowhere—
It was the way it sounded.
Like it wasn’t quite… human.
“Who’s there?!”
Lin Xian’s instincts kicked in—without hesitation, he yanked KIKI into a narrow cryo-storage passage.
Whoosh!
Sothing rolled past the space they had just vacated.
“Hel-lo.”
The eerie voice spoke again, this ti lower, as if struggling to mimic normal human speech.
But the forced effort only made it more terrifying.
“There! By the passage entrance!” KIKI gasped, pointing to where they had just co from.
Lin Xian turned—and imdiately noticed sothing horrifying.
The swirling white mist at the passage’s entrance was parting unnaturally to both sides.
As if sothing huge was moving through it.
A Horror Entity.
That was Lin Xian’s first thought.
Whatever this thing was—it wasn’t a zombie.
And it definitely wasn’t human.
THUMP. THUMP. THUMP.
Lin Xian steadied his breathing, gripping KIKI’s wrist tighter as they ran.
“That thing is following us!”
“We’re almost there!” KIKI shouted.
They burst out of the Gene Cryo-Storage Facility and into another corridor. But before they could catch their breath—
The horrifying voice rang out again.
“YOU!!! HELLO!!!”
This ti, it was shrieking.
A grotesque attempt at mimicking human speech.
Lin Xian spun around, raising his tactical flashlight—
And saw it.
Erging from the misty cryo chamber—
A tall, skeletal shadow.
And it was running straight for them.
“Look out!”
Lin Xian yanked KIKI behind him and activated chanical Heart, rapidly constructing a steel fra barricade across the corridor.
CRASH!
The shadowy figure slamd into the tal bars with brutal force. Sparks erupted as the steel groaned under the impact.
But the barricade held.
Just as Lin Xian was about to take this chance to escape—
Sothing lit up in the darkness.
A massive, blood-red skull began to glow, its hollow eye sockets and gaping maw igniting with eerie flas.
Then—
A three-ter-tall, humanoid skeletal creature erged.
Its body was covered in jagged bone spikes, and its crimson skull burned with unnatural fire.
“GRRRAAAHHH!!!”
A deafening shriek blasted through the corridor, rattling their eardrums.
Then, the creature opened its jaw—
And spewed a wave of scorching blood-fire straight at them.
“It can breathe fire?!”
Lin Xian’s expression darkened—he had to react fast.
Ice Shield!
BOOM!
The fiery blast illuminated the entire corridor. KIKI, pressed against Lin Xian’s back, quickly raised her hands—using Telekinesis to reinforce their defense.
A shimring barrier ford in front of them, barely holding back the scorching heat.
But the fire still splattered everywhere.
The walls glowed red-hot. The steel barricade began lting.
If KIKI hadn’t reinforced it, the entire structure would have collapsed already!
“What the hell is this thing?!”
“Why can a Horror Entity talk?!”
“No ti! We need to move!” KIKI shouted.
She reached up and grabbed onto a massive hanging light fixture from the ceiling—
And yanked it down.
CRASH!
The tal fixture smashed onto the creature’s flaming skull, pinning it beneath Lin Xian’s half-lted steel barricade. The entire structure collapsed with a thunderous clang.
Seizing the opportunity, Lin Xian grabbed KIKI’s hand and sprinted forward.
Ahead, his flashlight beam revealed a narrow maintenance tunnel.
