Under the leadership of Lin Yi.
The shield wall held back the zombie horde.
At the sa ti, the archers, gunn, and mages continuously reduced the number of zombies, easing the pressure on the knights.
There were not many knights who hadn’t reached level 5 yet.
When they finally reached level 5, they could engage more actively in battle.
The battle had just begun, so Lin Yi only allowed those warriors who urgently needed to level up to participate.
However, as the Zombie General began to pay more attention to the situation here, the rate of gaining experience points quickly slowed down.
He first temporarily boosted the energy of the level 1 cannon fodder zombies.
The zombies charged at the humans like frenzied beasts, falling into pits, crashing into the knights... while the knights held their ground, controlling the pace of the attack.
Most of the pressure was concentrated in the middle of the formation because the undead on both flanks were being eliminated by infantry and low level mages.
But among the knights, the strongest and most enduring warriors were deployed right in the center of the formation.
The pressure kept increasing.
The rate at which corpses piled up was faster than the ground could absorb them.
Slowly, the knights had to retreat.
The Zombie General noticed this and exerted more pressure on the knights.
The zombies shoved forward madly, tearing their muscles, pouncing on the knights’ shields, trying every possible way to get a bite of the humans.
Lin Yi could have commanded his mages to turn the entire road into hell.
But doing so would expose his strength to the Zombie General, making them more cautious.
His plan was to gradually strengthen the defense, so he had the crossbown join the zombie-killing action.
Unlike bows, even untrained children could use crossbows.
It wasn’t difficult: as long as they roughly aid the crossbow in the enemy’s direction, they were sure to hit sothing.
The crossbown were mbers of the Child of the Sun squad, and they already had rich experience with these weapons.
Doctors and weapon makers also got laser rifles, as did the fairies.
Such combat continued for an hour.
All the enemies were level 1 zombies.
But they achieved their purpose!
Currently, the knights’ physical strength and magic value were depleting, and their equipnt wasn’t in good condition.
But the fatigued warriors could withdraw to the rear at any ti.
They would recharge their gear, have so food, drink so spring water, and, if necessary, head to the recovery center.
Another hour passed.
The knights were slowly retreating, leaving behind heaps of corpses that were gradually being absorbed by the soil.
The third hour passed.
Then ca the fourth hour.
The knights had almost retreated to the end of the road.
All the doctors, weapon makers, healers, and other auxiliary professionals had reached level 10.
For the soldiers, fighting continuously for dozens of hours without rest was not uncommon, so they didn’t even complain.
Chen Youyou received special treatnt.
Lin Yi gave her an energy cannon to help her reach level 10.
All she had to do was stick the cannon barrel through the steel wall and fire at the enemy.
Each shell could kill nearly a hundred zombies.
When her weapon overheated, Lin Yi would swap it for another, allowing her to level up to 10.
Whereas, for most people, it would take countless battles, a lot of sweat, and tears to achieve that.
Chen Youyou might not have bled or cried, but she certainly sweated a lot.
The Zombie General had no idea that the humans in steel armor fighting his minions were constantly rotating, nor did he know there were many more people behind them.
The only one who never left the battle for even a second was Lin Yi!
He had to watch the knights until they left the road because he didn’t want to expend his trained warriors.
The warriors grew more fatigued and started making mistakes.
After three people almost fell into a pit... but Lin Yi saved them all.
Lin Yi knew he couldn’t let his guard down for even a second.
While the battle was going on, people in the shelter went about their business calmly.
The soldiers in the rear just sat there idly... but then, the General took action.
Level 2 and level 3 mutant zombies began to appear in the zombie horde.
They were smaller in body type, but still highly lethal due to their speed and sharp claws.
The mutant zombies were mostly concentrated in the middle, and trouble started from there.
These cunning creatures began attacking the weak points of the formation. They would jump up from under another zombie and drive their huge claws into the knights’ legs or feet.
Level 2 mutant zombies couldn’t pierce the knights’ armor, but level 3 mutant zombies could, although with so difficulty.
Many knights had to retreat after being injured, leaving gaps in the formation that were imdiately filled by zombies and mutant zombies.
However, the knights behind them were still able to quickly hack these enemies to pieces and reorganize.
This was far from their first battle with zombies.
They were usually engaged in close combat with zombies, so they were accustod to such tactics.
Nevertheless, the number of wounded increased, and the knights’ equipnt was wearing out rapidly.
The material of this equipnt was quite inferior...
But there were eleven thousand sets of equipnt in the shelter!
At this point, the knights had retreated to the end of the road, and Lin Yi finally didn’t have to focus so intently on them anymore.
If not for his "regeneration" skill, he would certainly have been drenched in sweat.
Focusing on a battle for four consecutive hours was an enormous drain both ntally and physically.
When the knights reached the end of the road, they activated their aura barrier.
Not just those fighting, but all the knights.
This greatly diminished the attacks of the mutant zombies.
Even those zombies that hide among ordinary zombies and spew spikes have no way to break through the barrier.
The spikes they shoot shatter against the yellow barrier, then bounce off like raindrops.
This beca the last straw that broke the cal’s back.
The Zombie General decided to deliver a fatal blow to the enemy.
He assessed the enemy’s strength and believed the cannon fodder had completed their task.
It was ti to dispatch the elite troops!
"Boss, our observers report so strange movents at the enemy’s rear."
"The main attack is about to start!"
Lin Yi stood up from the command table.
The Mage and Archer squads quickly gathered.
The phase of easily gaining experience points was over.
The real battle was about to begin!
Here they co!
Level 1 zombies look like 2-ter-tall bodybuilders, but Level 3 zombies are almost completely unrecognizable as human.
They vary in appearance, coming from different species.
Lin Yi saw a zombie from the Taru Race and a few that looked like insects, among many others.
The mutant zombies ca flying down the road.
The infantry opened fire.
Boorangs and Level 2 spells rained down on the enemy, and mutant zombies fell one after another but still advanced rapidly.
Before long, they charged right up to the knights and crashed into the barrier.
The knights withstood the attack and launched a counterattack.
Their magically enhanced weapons were very effective against the thick hides of the mutant zombies.
At least for Level 1 and Level 2 mutant zombies.
And all the soldiers with laser rifles focused their fire on those Level 3 zombies.
But under the fierce zombie attack, the knights’ barrier gradually weakened.
Then, fast zombies appeared behind them, plunging sharp claws into the yellow barrier.
At that mont, they appeared...
Three gigantic zombie creatures roared.
The one on the left looked like a humanoid-spider hybrid.
It was 6 ters tall and 15 ters long.
This monster quickly crawled next to a pit, turned around, and spewed a web that almost covered the entire pit.
A large group of Level 3 zombies began running over the web.
The zombie creature on the right looked like a giant sphere made of flesh, bones, and limbs.
It was massive, with a diater of about 9 ters.
This creature’s tactics were even simpler than the spider’s; it used Earth Magic.
As it rolled forward, the pits in front of it turned into a stone path.
Behind this creature were Level 4 zombies equipped with weapons and clad in armor.
So of them held bows or throwing spears, while others carried stones.
In the middle, surrounded by Level 3 mutant zombies, was a 7.6-ter-tall giant.
Upon closer inspection, one could tell it was once a Taru race creature.
Its armor was made of sothing not quite bone nor chitinous.
This creature boasted a strong body and wielded a massive 5-ter boulder...
A massive wave of innurable Level 3 zombies, mutant zombies, and other undead creatures advanced rapidly along the long road, crossing the pits.
These creatures roared, moaned, and wailed, craving the feast awaiting them on the other side.
As soon as the giant monsters appeared, the previous wave of mutant creatures was instantly incinerated by the Fire Mages.
Lin Yi teleported all the knights behind the city walls, rendering them mostly unusable now.
The sa went for the mbers of the Child of the Sun team.
The artillery began to roar, and helicopters and giant dragons soared into the sky.
Soldiers clad in Doomsday Knight Armor and wielding AP-4 rifles took their positions behind the second layer of walls.
Soldiers carrying Energy Cannons joined in as well.
The Mages and Archers remained at the front of the pits, but Lin Yi was ready to teleport them away at a mont’s notice.
Blazing flas surged like a tsunami straight into the center of the enemy forces.
The Fire Mages also attempted to burn the web with fireballs, but... it had no effect.
The zombies were burned to ashes, but the web remained completely unscathed...
The Mages were rapidly depleting their Magic Value. The more zombies there were, the harder they were to kill, and the more Magic Value it consud.
Each ti an enormous Flaming Tsunami hit the zombies, only about half of them were wiped out.
Mages started to faint from low Magic Value, but they were imdiately replaced by others who began casting spells as soon as they appeared.
The artillery pounded the flesh ball creature and its stone path round after round.
Powerful shells left huge craters on the stone; sotis, large sections of the path even collapsed, but these gaps were quickly repaired.
However, the monster’s wound healing speed was not as swift.
It was protected by a large number of yellow fangs, but magically-enhanced shells still blasted the creature’s flesh and fangs into pieces.
The helicopters launched their missiles.
In just one salvo, most of the creature’s flesh was blown off, and the stone path began collapsing along with the monster.
Then, this bloodied mass suddenly grew hundreds of spikes as thick as human arms, launching them in all directions before falling into the pit.
The spikes struck everything around.
Zombies, mutant creatures, the ground, remnants of the stone path, the wall of mist...
Unfortunately, there happened to be flying helicopters and dragons nearby.
The helicopter was pierced by dozens of spikes, started to smoke, and plumted...
