Sam imdiately tries to create more distance from that snake. Unfortunately, the range of his shadow movent was not that big, and also, as he was fighting inside the cave, it beca difficult for him.

Sam instantly got sent backward and hit the wall behind him. Blood started coming out of his mouth. You can already see that the Wall almost got destroyed when Sam hit that wall.
