Apocalypse: After Being Reborn, I Stocked Up on All Supplies Chapter 172: 172 Surviving at Sea: Communication Plan
Chapter 172: Chapter 172 Surviving at Sea: Communication Plan
Ten minutes later, Song Qian and his two companions returned fully laden.
Sun Jingtao and Ye Qing had just secured and arranged the oil storage bags on the boat when the waves on the water’s surface began surging like a giant beast once again.
“Rumble rumble!” The multistory steel-fra parking garage also began shaking crazily like a sieve.
Huge waves slapped “slap, slap” against the sides of the rubber boat and steel fra, creating thunderous noises.
Jiang Yan handed the submachine gun back to Ye Qing, then gripped the handrails tightly with both hands.
Although this was yet another aftershock and not the first one they had experienced, everyone still dared not take it lightly.
“Kong Wu, take the boat out a bit first. After the aftershock, we’ll co back,” Song Qian said, his brow furrowing slightly as he watched the cars on the parking garage slamming into each other like bumper cars.
“Roger that!” Kong Wu quickly started the motor and steered the boat away from the edge of the building.
Fortunately, this ti the aftershock was short-lived.
It lasted only about ten seconds before the building stopped shaking. However, the colossal waves around the structure continued.
“Yue!” Su Dai, who had been shaken around quite a bit and was now even paler, covered her mouth with her hand and turned to the side, retching.
Sun Jingtao was about to rise to search for the ginger slices in the supply bag when Jiang Yan had already fished out a bottle of greenish dicated oil from her backpack and handed it over:
“Rub a bit of this on. It slls bad, but it can relieve so of the seasickness.”
“Thank you, Jiang Yan.” Sun Jingtao took it from her, first using his sleeve to dry off his wife’s face before unscrewing the cap and applying so to her temples and philtrum.
“Does anyone else need this?” After he finished applying the oil, Sun Jingtao held the bottle and asked around.
“Brother Tao, I’ll take so,” Ye Qing reached out, took the bottle, and applied a bit to his nose and temples.
“It’s so strange. I used to go out on boats frequently, and I’ve never felt this dizzy before,” Su Dai said with her eyes closed and a pained expression, now feeling slightly relieved.
It seems that Sun Jingtao had applied too much to her temples, which irritated her eyes.
Tears began to flow involuntarily from the corners of her eyes.
“The intense tremors produced by the earthquake can increase or decrease intracranial pressure, which can cause dizziness. For those with high or low blood pressure, the effects are even more pronounced,” Jiang Yan explained.
“Ah, that explains it. I think I have a bit of low blood pressure,” Su Dai said, startled, then in amazent, “Jiang Yan, how do you know everything…”
Jiang Yan gave a sheepish smile, “I used to read a lot of those ‘Why’ books when I was younger, hehe.”
Of course, she wasn’t going to say that this was information Hua Bao in Space had just shared with her telepathically.
Hua Bao had also told her that the Space progress bar had reached 99.90%!
Jiang Yan felt a rush of excitent inside, but at this mont, she was on the sa boat with everyone else, lacking the conditions to enter Space, so she could only hold off for now.
“Ai, today, I got to experience all the pirate ship rides I never took in my lifeti,” Su Dai said helplessly with a mix of laughter and tears.
Everyone else felt the sa way.
This “pirate ship” rocked far too violently, not only shaking people until they were disoriented but also jostling them until their bottoms ached.
If one wasn’t careful enough to hold on tight, they might get tossed into the tumultuous waves below, which was far more dangerous than what any amusent park had to offer.
“Whoosh—”
Finally, the amplitude of the surrounding waves gradually lessened.
“Kong Wu, steer the boat back,” Song Qian instructed, then turned to Jiang Yan and Su Dai:
“The aftershock just ended, so there won’t be another one for at least ten minutes. You two go up first and take care of personal matters. After that, we’ll take advantage of the daylight to continue traveling without stopping.”
“Okay.”
“Alright.”
Jiang Yan gave Song Qian a look, finding him to be quite considerate and attentive.
Travelling with them, Jiang Yan felt she had been able to conserve quite a bit of her ntal and physical energy.
Plus, with the previous mission to quell the bandits, they hadn’t slept all night and were indeed tired. At this mont, she just wanted to curl up in a corner and rest lazily.
Ten minutes later, after taking care of personal matters, everyone was neatly back on the boat.
Song Qian and Kong Wu had obtained more gasoline and filled the tank to the brim.
There was a breeze blowing at that mont, chilly to the bone.
Everyone instinctively rubbed their hands for warmth.
Song Qian pulled out a neatly folded map from his black backpack, sealed in a waterproof bag, and beckoned Jiang Yan and the others over.
The map was hand-drawn, rather rudintary, but it marked many distinctive locations and distance paraters.
The starting point on the map was Anming.
And the destination was East Mountain.
By direct line distance, it was about over nine hundred kiloters.
But in reality, traveling it would take at least one thousand two or three hundred kiloters or more.
“Let’s discuss our travel plans going forward,” Song Qian said, pointing at the map, “I estimate that we’ll need at least ten days to reach East Mountain.”
“Ah, that slow? I feel our rubber boat moves quite fast, and since all the places have been flooded by the rain, shouldn’t we be able to take the water route all the way?” Su Dai asked, sowhat puzzled.
The green oil around her temples had mostly dispersed, and she could now open her eyes normally, though they were still teary.
“Our boat is a military rubber boat, capable of speeds up to 100 kiloters per hour, but the presence of hidden reefs in so places will slow us down, so even an average speed of fifty to sixty kiloters per hour would be considered fast.
Another thing, the gasoline reserves on our boat are only enough for eight or nine hundred kiloters at most. We are unfamiliar with the other cities, so the likelihood of finding more gasoline is practically zero,” Song Qian glanced at her and explained.
Hearing this, Su Dai simply went “Oh.”
Jiang Yan pursed her lips, saying nothing.
Her Space did have a pile of gasoline purchased from the Rich Country that could last indefinitely.
But the problem was, she couldn’t take them out.
Not to ntion those helicopters and yachts growing mold…
Jiang Yan silently placed her palm on her forehead and sighed with resignation.
Let it be, she thought, considering this part of the experience akin to Robinson Crusoe’s sea voyages.
“How about this, in places where there are hidden reefs, we paddle manually to save so fuel,” Sun Jingtao suggested.
“Yes, I had the sa intention,” Song Qian nodded, “There are four n here, and if we switch off in pairs, it should work out perfectly.”
“We can row too,” Su Dai and Jiang Yan said in unison.
“Okay,” Song Qian nodded and continued:
“Now there’s another issue – determining our direction. The downpour has stopped, but the sun isn’t always out. And it’s uncertain whether we’ll see the North Star at night or not.
So today, during daylight, we should continue to make as much progress as we can. As for later, we can only hope that the magnetic field resus its normal state. Would anyone object to this arrangent?”
Everyone shook their heads, “No objections.”
“The earthquake can potentially affect the magnetic field, ultimately causing compasses to fail, but the chances of it returning to normal are still very high,” Jiang Yan said.
