Chapter 109: Chapter 109: Everything is a Weapon

Within the crowd, a sense of panic and unease began to spread.

“Let’s wait a little longer!” soone exclaid, “The officials have said they wouldn’t abandon a single citizen at any ti! Let’s just wait!”

“Yeah, maybe they went to pick up people from other places first, we should keep waiting!”

“At tis like these, Old Liu, stop deceiving yourself!” soone sneered nearby.

“Exactly!”

“I’m trying to comfort everyone with good intentions! What cold words are you saying!”

...

“Who needs your good intentions at a ti like this!”

“…”

Imdiately, voices of arguing and the sounds of scuffling and fighting were heard.

Many tis, it takes just a second to go from hope to despair.

From peaceful unity to tearing each other’s faces off is also a matter of monts.

Jiang Yan listened for a while, glanced at the water, and decided to go ho first.

Unexpectedly, the crowd waiting in line for the boats in the staircase hadn’t diminished over ti; instead, it had grown.

She struggled for a long while before finally squeezing out bit by bit from the crowded group.

The line in the staircase snaked all the way to the 23rd floor.

Just as Jiang Yan stepped onto the stairs leading to the 24th floor, she saw the couple Sun Jingtao and Su Dai, just pushing open the fire door of the 24th floor and coming out.

Behind them was a middle-aged man with a scholarly appearance, wearing black-frad glasses.

“Jiang Yan!” Su Dai spotted the fully equipped Jiang Yan and excitedly waved at her.

Sun Jingtao and the middle-aged man realized who she was after a delay and turned to look.

The two n were carrying things on their shoulders, packed in dirty, cent-bag-like sacks, that seed very heavy.

“Jiang Yan.”

“Jiang Yan.”

Both Sun Jingtao and Tian Jiliang greeted her.

Jiang Yan did not recognize Tian Jiliang but still politely said, “Hello.”

“You two take your ti; we’ll go up first.” After saying this, they went up the stairs first with the sacks.

Jiang Yan acknowledged with a “Hmm” and turned to ask Su Dai, “What brought you guys downstairs?”

Su Dai smiled mysteriously, “Let tell you, we just found so good stuff.”

Jiang Yan didn’t understand.

“We found two leftover bags of cent in the property managent’s electrical room, and a pile of bricks,” Su Dai said, covering her nose with her hand and added, “Jiang Yan, the stairwell slls awful. I’ll go up and tell you the details slowly, okay?”

She had forgotten to wear a mask when she ca down.

Although the temperature was low, the odor in the staircase was indescribably bad.

Jiang Yan nodded her head.

The two of them climbed the stairs silently without further conversation.

When they reached the landing between the 31st and 32nd floors, Su Dai began to struggle to keep up, standing there with her hands on her waist, panting heavily.

Jiang Yan’s body had been enhanced by Space, but she might have been standing for too long just now and felt a little pain in her lower abdon.

She also stopped to rest for a while.

Su Dai glanced at the closed fire door on the 32nd floor and whispered, “We’re preparing to build a clay stove at ho with the cent and bricks.”

Jiang Yan: “Clay stove?”

Speaking of clay stoves, she rembered seeing a hillside restaurant that served wood-fired chicken, half-destroyed by a mudslide when she visited a bee farm.

This thod of cooking the chicken was sowhat similar to the iron pot stewed goose common in the north.

Anming had been crazed about it for a while.

It featured a large clay stove with a big iron pot on it, underneath which charcoal was burned.

You could cook vegetables in the pot, as well as dry stir-fry dishes like yellow-braised chicken, dry pot duck, dry pot goose, and so on.

After the at was fried, ingredients like lotus slices, lettuce, and mushrooms would be added to stew together. Typically, so corn cakes would be stuck to the side of the pot, and then the lid would be placed on top.

When the at was stewed to perfection, the corn cakes would also be done.

Opening the lid, the aroma would be heady and the flavor delicious.

The residual heat was also useful for warming up by the fire in winter.

It was a great thing.

But at the ti, her ho didn’t lack heating, and used to the lifestyle in the south, she hadn’t thought about it.

Otherwise, she should have collected a couple of those stoves.

“Right. Xiao Ye told my husband that this torrential rain won’t stop any ti soon and the temperature is dropping. It might even snow, or the water might freeze over.

The alcohol stove is too small, and we won’t be able to keep up with our alcohol stock for long, so we thought about building a clay stove in the living room. It can be used to heat food by burning wood and for warming up, as well as heating the house.

If the water really does freeze over, we could go out and collect so combustibles to get through this dreadful weather temporarily.”

Listening to this, Jiang Yan agreed, “Right, that’s a good idea, killing three birds with one stone!”

“We might not use up all the materials, so we’ll save a bit of cent and build one in your living room too,” Su Dai said, gauging Jiang Yan’s expression as she spoke.

It was as if she was sharing a piece of information but also seeking her opinion.

After all, building a stove in soone’s ho was an intrusion on their privacy.

Sun Jingtao had specifically reminded her to be tactful in front of Jiang Yan.

But at this mont, with the fire doors of the upper and lower floors closed and the stairway too dark, Jiang Yan, wearing a mask, showed no visible reaction.

“I don’t need one, my ho is decorated in a western style and there is a fireplace in the living room. You should keep it for yourself; just be careful with the smoke and ventilation when burning,” Jiang Yan was candid and even took the opportunity to remind her.

Su Dai didn’t know if a fireplace could heat food, but it was clear that Jiang Yan had declined.

“Oh,” Su Dai responded.

“Let’s go, let’s go up,” Jiang Yan said when she noticed Su Dai’s breathing ease.

“Alright.”

They went upstairs and pushed open the fire door.

The door to room 3203 was ajar, not fully closed, and the sound of won and children crying could be heard through the gap.

Jiang Yan rembered the scars on Wen Wanli’s hands and slightly furrowed her brows.

Su Dai glanced at the slightly open door and said in a low voice, “Jiang Yan, I forgot to tell you, 3203 had people move in, two families.”

Jiang Yan nodded slightly, her expression calm as she acknowledged with a “Hmm”.

“You knew?” Surprised, Su Dai asked, but then quickly changed the subject, “You heard the noise when they forcefully broke the door lock with the Door-breaking Hamr last night, right?”

Jiang Yan shook her head, “I didn’t hear it, but I ran into that Wen Wanli when I went downstairs earlier.”

Her expression remained impassive, which made Su Dai sowhat puzzled.

“Alright, I’m heading ho.” Jiang Yan said indifferently and started to walk towards her ho.

Her lower abdon was still a bit uncomfortable; she needed to go back and have so Motherwort tea, and also to replace what needed changing.

“By the way, Jiang Yan, co to our place for dinner tonight, we’re having grilled fish. You wouldn’t believe how good Xiao Ye’s cooking is.

Also, about the new neighbors moving in next door… we’d like to hear your opinion,” Su Dai suddenly rembered to say.

This ti, Jiang Yan nodded without refusing.

She could probably guess what Su Dai was thinking.

In such an environnt, it’s important to be cautious of others but not overly suspicious.

For the mont, however, Jiang Yan kept her thoughts to herself.
