Sleep’s important, right? Then why can’t I get a single mont of shut eye?
His thought process had been spiraling for so ti now. Yin Hu hadn’t even noticed when the thick shadows had arrived and darkness covered the area around them. Too busy in his own mind. It didn’t help that the girls were oddly silent.
Each one busy with their own minds. Considering different things that were important to them and not so important to the other.
The girls still remained close to him though. Following his footsteps.
Yin Hu shook his head again. Another thing that he just noticed about himself. When was the last ti he tripped? Stubbed his toe? Fell? He couldn’t even rember a slight stumble in the tutorial in the imdiate past he could recall. Even with all the ridiculous stunts he was pulling. Kung fu moves he made up. Each one more ridiculous and mortifyingly embarrassing compared to the last by a large margin.
W-What about Shui’s weapon spirit? Are they always there or do you have to connect to them before they appear?
He had never seen another person or thing on the island. Much less a hint. No connection with his weapons had been had. Only silence and his own mind. He was surprised he had not gone insane during the isolation.
Assuming it was tutorial bullshit was the only way he could qualify it. There were too many things he didn’t understand. Where did the weapons co from? Were there actually so many world destroying level weapons just lying about and waiting for him to unlock? Did they store them sowhere?
Did they see ? Like were the spirits actually there when I was… or when I...
Yin Hu couldn’t stop the burning heat that rose up his neck. He had considered it during the YagWan incident but there had been other considerations he needed to think about. Those took priority for that ti.
Now, he had nothing else but this and his thoughts. It made it hard to forget about how embarrassed he felt now. The burning inside him remained strong. Imagining what they would be saying or thinking about when he was doing the dumbest things he could think of. All in the na of keeping himself sane. Or staving off boredom. That had been a big issue at so point on the flying island.
“Mr. Mo Mo co out,” Shui whispered quietly to herself. “All the spirits are scared.”
Yin Hu still heard her, even if her voice was distant. Further than usual. He didn’t pay her any mind. The little girl was eccentric to say the least. Though he did need to be more watchful when she was talking about spirits and things she sees.
He still rembered her Spiritual Roots elent from the orb. Spirit. At an average level based on the Compendiums marking of what it should look like at her age group. Though her purity was still horrible. They would need to finish the katas before they can finally figure that out and fix that issue.
“They keep jabbering too much lately—”
Yin Hu focused back on his thoughts. Trying to find himself a solution without outing his persona. Figure out if the weapon spirits were actually there from the onset or they were a newer phenona with the ownership being transferred. Was it another system issue? Did it prevent him from using the weapons to their fullest ability?
Each one was already overpowered and capable of pushing his battle prowess up many ranks. Enough that he could feel confident he had a chance against absolutely anyone weaker than Dong ZhenKang. Though he wasn’t sure what level that was.
It had to be sothing high though. Ridiculously nad and out of reach for a very long ti. Or maybe not so ridiculously nad. Cultivator bullshit tended to match their naming sches when it ca to levels. Right? Only the weapons he got tended to be nad strange things that were unnecessary or maybe even flowery.
Like the fishing rod. The Twenty Tentacled Kraken - The Fell Creature was a disappointnt. Such an epic na only to fail him. He hadn’t fished out a single Koi Fish his entire ti in the caves. Nothing. You would think a Kraken level fishing rod would make the process as easy as stealing cake from a child.
Nope. Nothing at all.
“Shui, stay next to .” Jun whispered. “Ancestor doesn’t need more problems.”
“But, they need my help.”
“Hu Shui. I swear I will pinch your ears red if you try to run after imaginary friends. We can deal with them after the sun rises. Not when we can’t see past our hands.”
“Jun!”
“That’s the end of this conversation. Do you understand?” Jun’s voice was filled with finality. Unwavering and unwilling to take any rebuttals from the little girl. “Good. Now keep close to . I don’t want to tie a rope between us to keep you from straying.”
Yin Hu smiled at their interactions. Jun filled more shoes than she knew was possible to make sure Shui was taken care of. Friend. Guardian. Motherly caretaker and even a stern teacher. All for the younger girl. Yin Hu would need to fill a similar role for Jun to make sure she developed properly, both ntally and cultivation wise.
He couldn’t have another hustler breaking her down.
Shui, on the other hand, had a much stronger frawork. Jun did a pretty decent job. Even if the little girl tended to see things. Things he had not yet made a full verdict on whether they were real or just hallucinations. He had been getting varying reports on the matter.
Or maybe YagWan was just bullshiting him. That old man was a supre actor. Faking and duping his own disciples and the world of his power and station. But not Yin Hu. He caught it the mont the man appeared in their clearing. Hidden by sothing from the girls.
It was the way he smiled. Licked boots. Praised him in ways no one else would. Just perfectly tid and the correct words to stroke an overly large ego without causing any blow back.
A true professional.
But that didn’t an the old man didn’t speak so truths in-between all the lies. That was the key to being a professional like him. Mixing truths and falsehoods, muddying the tale in ways that made it difficult to figure out where the lines intersected.
Was YagWan lying about Shui and the weapon spirits? Or was he telling the truth?
Yin Hu stopped in his tracks. The forest beca unusually quiet around him. He turned around and started look—
“Jun?”
Fuck. Oh fuck!
“J-Jun!” Yin Hu shouted as he searched for her. Unable to find her. “Shui!”
The forest was empty of any little girls. The darkness had already blanketed the entire area. Not even a bird call. Nothing to indicate there had been two people behind him the whole ti. It was completely empty.
Fuck! No way am I losing my nukes so quickly! This is a long term investnt plan! It can’t disappear so quickly!
Yin Hu was beyond worried for the little girls. Even if he wasn’t willing to say it. They had ford a strong relationship with each other on the disciple and master bond. He cared for them. They would eventually protect him and give him the opportunity to relax around jade beauties.
He ran back towards where they had been walking from. Searching left and right. The inky shadow’s seed to grow thicker and harder to navigate in. Making it impossible for him to fully see. Finding them felt impossible.
The shouts and calls for them did not help either.
I’ll find them! I know I will. Maybe look for their Qi?
Yin Hu took a deep breath, then walked back towards the area he had first noticed them disappearing. He let himself calm down. Searching the area properly for any signs. He closed his eyes and attempted to find anything he could latch onto.
Jun should have enough Qi for to find, right? She’s pretty strong.
The world seed to distance itself. His surroundings growing bleak and blank. Colorless. Long monts passed before he finally found a single source of Qi in the entire area around him. So small he almost missed it. It was ridiculously tiny. Had he not been looking for Shui as well, he might have missed the sign completely.
Did Jun hide her Qi? Is that even possible? Doesn’t matter. At least I got one of them locked in.
Yin Hu nodded to himself. Happy. He started to walk towards the tiny, almost microscopic amount of Qi he noticed. Leaving ntal notes to have Jun teach Shui how to hide her Qi too. Seed like a good idea. Especially if they would need to figure out tasks and fight enemies when he wasn’t around in the future.
