"Press the button to enter the elevator, and return to the dormitory building."
"5. If during your patrol, the incandescent hallway lights that were originally off suddenly start flashing, and an incomprehensible eerie chanting begins to echo in the corridor, you must imdiately abandon all current actions and enter the nearest dormitory until the chanting completely vanishes from your mind."
"6. While patrolling, do not interrupt your actions for any external occurrences, nor enter any portals other than the dormitory, including but not limited to suddenly appearing staircases, elevators, or the Dormitory Managent Office."
"7. After inspecting all the dormitories in the hallway, you can choose to either continue patrolling based on your intuition or imdiately return to the Dormitory Managent Office."
"If you choose to stay in the corridor, return to the Dormitory Managent Office at the latest when the hallway lights turn on (i.e., 6:00)."
"After returning to the dormitory, you can opt to give up the ’Dormitory Supervisor’ identity and leave the Dormitory Managent Office imdiately, then exit the dormitory building following the departure procedure in the Dormitory Supervisor’s Manual, or choose to beco a permanent dormitory supervisor."
"If you choose to beco a permanent dormitory supervisor, you must inspect all dormitories, then, according to Rule 4’s instructions for traveling to and from the Art Building, exit the elevator when it reaches the library and enter the library."
"You will see the Library Rules, abide by the Library Rules, await the appearance of the security guard, and follow the security guard to leave the library and return to the campus."
"Upon returning to the campus, imdiately return to the Dormitory Managent Office on the corresponding floor of the dormitory building."
"This rule can be executed later, but it must be completed before the fla of the kerosene lamp goes out."
"[NOTICE!!!]: If you find the fla of the kerosene lamp is on the verge of extinguishing while holding it, whether or not you decide to beco a permanent dormitory supervisor, you need to execute the behavior logic of going to the library!!!"
"Once the kerosene lamp fla goes out, the consequences are unimaginable!"
"The above content constitutes the complete Dormitory Supervisor’s Manual. Please adhere strictly to it to ensure the safety of yourself and others. Thank you.]"
At the end of the Dormitory Supervisor’s Manual, there was a line of handwriting from soone:
"Power itself is not terrifying; what is terrifying is the greed and desire within the heart. Brightness and fla have always been there, but those who chase the light through the fog end up as phantoms.]"
Glancing briefly, Kuai Hongji closed the Dormitory Supervisor’s Manual and stuffed it into his pocket.
Then, carrying the old kerosene lamp, he slowly walked to the door of the Dormitory Managent Office.
The person who had just hung up the sign retreated in fear.
Kuai Hongji didn’t even spare him another glance before he pushed open the door and left.
Bam!
The door of the Dormitory Managent Office slamd shut.
Only at that mont did the others in the Dormitory Managent Office dare to breathe out and swallow a deep gulp of saliva.
But soon, after Kuai Hongji took away the old kerosene lamp, the already dim light in the Dormitory Managent Office beca even darker, the incandescent light bulbs’ glow seed to be invisibly compressed, and the once existent walls squird into an illusory mist.
The person still standing at the door suddenly seed to rember sothing, shivered fiercely, and then dashed to the nearest sofa, curling up on it and hugging himself into a ball, wishing he could sink into the sofa entirely...
...
May 11th, X023, 22:26, 14th floor of the dormitory building.
After leaving the Dormitory Managent Office, Kuai Hongji quickly turned the corner and returned to the dormitory hallway.
In the hallway of the dormitory building after the lights were completely out, a mist of strange density perated, wandering incessantly like prostitutes flaunting themselves to attract business outside the Yihong House.
The entire corridor was eerily silent except for the sound of the chain dragging from Kuai Hongji’s waist to the ground, with its incessant clanging, "clang clang clang" noises.
Kuai Hongji patrolled the dormitories one by one. Due to his prior "warning," the pseudo-humans and nocturnal species on this floor restrained themselves, all retreating near dormitory 1430, far from dormitory 1414.
When Kuai Hongji walked by with the old kerosene lamp, so peculiar entities driven solely by instinct wisely curled up in the corners.
Ti crept by, and the dormitory corridor under Kuai Hongji’s feet began to distort gradually. The path beneath him seed to stretch out to the sidewalls.
The entire dormitory building’s corridor suddenly started writhing as if it were the convulsing innards of a giant beast, gravity rules seemingly altering, the corridor twirling like a scene out of Inception.
Within a few steps, Kuai Hongji found his footing had turned into the corridor’s original ceiling.
The light from the incandescent bulbs shone up from below him, casting shadows in tandem with the flickering kerosene lamp, resembling a ghost child in an eerily deserted cetery, carrying a lantern to mourn the ancestors.
Everything seed normal enough, yet there remained an indescribable sense of eeriness and horror.
...
At 23:03, the old kerosene lamp in Kuai Hongji’s hand suddenly brightened. He sensed sothing and turned to look at the adjacent dormitory.
At this mont, the entire dormitory building had actually inverted, with Kuai Hongji standing on the ceiling like in an Inception world.
The downward gravity acted on the ceiling, making it hard to discern in the cage-like corridor whether the dormitory building had spun spontaneously or if gravity had quietly reversed upward.
Kuai Hongji ca to the dormitory door and glanced at the door plaque.
"1423."
He grabbed the doorknob, and the identity tag of ’Dormitory Supervisor’ seed to float with ghostly light, followed by a series of crackling chanical unlock sounds coming from within the door.
Shortly after, the dormitory door opened.
Kuai Hongji gently swung the door open.
Soft light seeped through the doorway like bubbles, illuminating every detail in the dormitory.
Upon entering, Kuai Hongji sensed the pervasive chill and moisture in the air, emanating from the window by the washbasin, half-open, letting sinister mist in through the fierce wind. The mist scattered and whirled around the dormitory, causing toiletries on the washbasin to roll around, producing eerie sounds.
In this six-person dormitory, three people slept while three beds were unoccupied, but the arrangent suggested five people originally resided there.
Furthermore, none among the three sleepers were actually asleep—who could possibly sleep in such a drafty, ghostly environnt?
Of course, they were awake but dutifully adhered to the Dormitory Rules, hugging themselves tightly and pretending to be asleep amidst tremors.
Elsewhere, on the window edge, a sticky substance lingered, resembling trails from an enormous slug erging from the mire.
The trace extended from the windowsill to the floor—or rather, what now was the ceiling finally.
Involuntarily, Kuai Hongji raised his head to find a large clump of dark, amorphous semi-solid mass huddling above like a tumor, fearful of the lamp’s light below, daring not to stir.
On these three beds remained hints of the sli, suggesting this dark mass might have once perched atop the individuals until Kuai Hongji’s entry prompted it to scamper upward.
With Kuai Hongji’s arrival, the dirty mass began inching toward the window, seemingly aiming to escape through it.
Observing this indifferently, Kuai Hongji refused to let the filthy mass leave easily, reaching to wipe the lamp cover of the old kerosene lamp gently.
