Volu 4: High School Arc - “I” Co to Find You~
As he spoke, the captain glanced at the file on the table and shook his head helplessly.
"This murder case revealed three victims all at once yesterday, and another one this morning. According to the forensic report, all of them were bitten to death. But don’t you find it strange? These victims were subjected to such brutal torture while alive, yet didn’t make a single sound. When those two girls were killed at ho, their parents were in the room, and there were no signs of binding or drugging on the bodies. The parents in the next room didn’t notice a thing. How did the suspect pull that off?"
"Oh, Captain, even I, a detective for nearly thirty years, have never co across such a thorny case. In terms of how bizarre it is, it’s no less than that hospital murder case in H City so ti ago."
"H City?"
"Yeah, the one in the private hospital in H City last winter."
"Deputy Captain, what similarities are there between that case and this one?"
The criminal investigation captain took a drag on his cigarette and asked.
"If we’re talking similarities… there might not be many. But this case is even creepier than that one."
"Alright, enough about that. Let’s move now. We don’t have much ti. According to the latest forensic update, the ti of death for the victim found this morning matches our estimate. It can be confird that the victim died around midnight. Seems like this suspect views killing very differently from normal people. Be careful."
After speaking, the captain turned and left the room.
The deputy captain, cigarette in mouth and brows furrowed, glanced at the file on the table, then shook his head helplessly and followed the captain out.
I had stayed there the whole ti, watching them talk for nearly ninety seconds before finally leaving.
Only then did I rush to the table.
Without wasting a second, I flipped open the file.
What t my eyes were various photos and details of the victims, along with several “evidence numbers” below.
I quickly jotted down over a dozen of these evidence numbers and was just about to close the file when the sound of a door opening suddenly ca from behind.
I pulled my hand back instantly.
This captain looked pretty young, probably not even thirty yet.
But he was quite handso and seed sharp and capable.
"Damn, this deputy... couldn't he have just brought it for ? Had to co back and get it myself."
Grumbling to himself, the captain stepped into the room, then looked up at the table—his gaze instantly froze.
"This..."
The captain stood rooted to the spot, his hand unconsciously touching his chin, his eyes filled with shock as he stared at the opened file on the table.
Seeing this, I knew things were bad.
But I couldn’t just close the file right in front of him either.
I had no choice... but to turn and run.
I’d morized the evidence numbers, which ant I could find the phones.
There was no ti to worry about anything else.
I had less than three minutes left in my Evil Spirit Form.
I phased directly into the floor, and just before I fully sank into it, I saw the young captain walk over to the table, spin the file around, examine it carefully, then mutter to himself:
"Evidence numbers..."
Crap!
The page I’d opened was exactly the one listing the evidence numbers.
I couldn’t wait any longer.
I passed through the second floor again and quickly arrived at the evidence room.
Following the evidence numbers, I finally located four mobile phones laid out side by side.
All four phones were turned off.
I extended the Evil Spirit Form fingers, spreading and stretching them to press all four power buttons at once, turning them all on.
I didn’t care if this would make the captain suspicious.
One of the phones was completely dead—probably Zhang Yang’s.
It had been three or four days, after all.
No ti for nonsense.
I shoved my finger straight into the charging port.
Seeing the screen light up gave a bit of relief.
At the sa ti, I quickly unlocked all four phones.
Passwords couldn’t stop .
I scanned through the phone numbers on each device.
Before I could even compare them, the sound of a door unlocking suddenly ca from the entrance.
‘Click!’
The door lock opened.
It was too late to power the phones down.
I had no choice but to return the phones to the ho screen.
Imdiately after, several officers walked in, led by that sa captain.
The mont he stepped inside, his eyes locked directly onto where I was—not that he could see my Evil Spirit Form, but right in front of … were four phones with lit-up screens.
Right… I hadn’t pulled my charging finger back yet.
At that mont, the captain’s eyes were filled with shock!
But I didn’t have ti to worry about him.
While charging that dead phone, I felt my hunger spike rapidly.
As I withdrew my finger from the charging port, a crimson hue suddenly flooded my vision.
The entire world began to shift from color to blood-red!
'Damn it...'
I passed through the other pieces of evidence, but just as I was phasing through the evidence shelf, I suddenly felt sothing brush past .
It wasn’t very strong, but it was enough to make my body stumble slightly.
At the sa ti, there was a distinct sense of physical resistance.
I couldn’t help but feel startled.
I instinctively turned to look.
'Clang!'
The sound echoed in my ears as several iron tools dropped to the floor.
Looking at the iron tools scattered on the ground, I noticed a few nearly invisible scratches had appeared on my body’s surface.
If I had to compare, it felt like soone lightly ran a fingertip across my skin.
This sound quickly drew the attention of several officers.
I didn’t have ti to do anything else and imdiately drifted to the second floor, then quickly passed through the outer wall.
At this point... everything in my sight was completely crimson.
The hunger was driving insane!
No ti to think—I dove into the car without even looking, heading straight for the back seat.
However... just as the upper half of my body returned to my flesh and only my lower half remained outside, my head had just barely passed through the car roof.
At that mont, I suddenly sensed malice!
Instinctively, I followed the source of that gaze.
Inside a pair of black pupils was a look of horror.
And in those eyes... was the reflection of an Evil Spirit’s shadow.
I looked down.
Right now... Shao He’s hand was resting on my body’s forehead.
In her hand was a towel, the kind wrapped around ice cubes.
I—shit!
Locking eyes with Shao He for a brief mont, I had no ti to think.
I imdiately dove fully back into my body.
Any more delay, and the Evil Spirit Form might truly spiral out of control!
Fortunately, it was just an instant.
The Evil Spirit Form’s movent and thinking speeds far exceeded that of normal humans.
What felt like a second to was probably only around 0.2 seconds to Shao He.
