Chapter 765: Chapter 383: Vicious Tactics_2

These words instantly cald everyone down.

That’s true, although this isn’t the vote for the Extraterritorial Tax Avoidance Bill, from this filibuster voting it’s clear they hold a significant advantage.

There were indeed only three senators who flip-flopped, which ans if it really ca down to voting on the bill, it would certainly pass with flying colors.

But on the other hand, in order to get to the voting phase on this bill, they first had to end the opposition senators’ stalling tactics from the podium.

However, this required 60 votes, which seed to have fallen into a vicious cycle!

“Is there any other way to end their speaking session?”

...

Obadiah looked at the others with an inquiring gaze.

“The speaking procedure is a right conferred upon senators by the Constitution; apart from securing enough votes, there’s no other way for now.”

Welton Heng responded.

As the chief consultant for the Internal Revenue Service, he obviously had a clear understanding of the legislation and regulations.

Obadiah frowned and turned to David, “David, do you have any other ideas on this matter?”

David thought for a mont, then shook his head and replied, “Currently, they are all inside Parliant House. It seems we can only wait until the end of the day before we plot our next move.”

“Alright, there’s nothing else we can do!”

At the Senate session.

“Well, Senator Raglen, you only have 58 votes in favor of ending my speech; according to Congressional law, that’s not enough!”

Seeing that the number of votes was insufficient, senators like Langman from the opposition instantly felt triumphant.

As for Raglen and the rest, though itching with frustration, they were without any recourse.

After all, the opposition was right; according to the Congressional law, without 60 votes, they couldn’t bypass the speeches to proceed to the voting phase.

Of course, the ones fuming with rage weren’t just senators like Raglen who supported the bill.

There was also a large group of citizens supporting the bill, but they, too, could only curse a few tis online, without any real ans to act.

So it went, with Langman and successive opposition senators taking their turn, and before they knew it, the ti had co to 1 o’clock in the afternoon.

Finally, it was Grace’s turn again, and he said, “I’m sorry, everyone. The comnts on this bill and the areas that need improvent have not yet been fully discussed by our senators, and now it’s getting late. I’m afraid we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to continue!”

Grace’s words, naturally, incited a barrage of curses from those supporting the bill.

But he either didn’t see or pretended not to see the outrage, as he turned, packed up his briefcase, and left.

And like Langman and other opposition senators, after casting satisfied glances at Raglen and his allies, they too departed with swagger.

“Raglen, this can’t go on; what do we do tomorrow?”

“Yeah, looking at these fellows’ attitude, they plan to play this out to the end. We need to find a way around this procedure; otherwise, the bill can’t be passed.”

“Don’t panic, I’ll go talk to David right away; he should have a solution!”

Without further delay, Raglen quickly exited Parliant House, got into his car, and headed towards the Internal Revenue Service Headquarters.

anwhile, on Senado Island…

Though it seed like they had won today, in reality, the situation was very dangerous for them.

It’s simple, relying on this speaking procedure, they could delay the bill from reaching the voting stage.

But as the old saying goes, you can delay for a mont, but can you delay forever?

Eventually, under the pressure from all sides, there would likely be a need for a real vote to decide the outco.

It seed that the situation had gradually beco clear; there were as many as 58 votes in support of the bill, an absolute overwhelming majority!

If it really ca down to a vote, judging by this number of votes, everything they had done would have been in vain!

“Damn it, what’s going on? Weren’t we holding 56 votes? What the hell is happening now!”

Prescott couldn’t keep his composure and slamd his palm down on the table.

While the others didn’t voice their concerns directly, their gazes were nonetheless filled with a chilling intent.

“This…”

At this mont, Joshua’s expression was sowhat bitter, and he stamred without being able to utter a half sentence.

Truth be told, he had a premonition before the vote that the ballots he held would definitely undergo nurous changes.

But he hadn’t expected the changes to be so significant, with as many as over 14 votes switching sides.

And as the person in charge of this aspect, he was inevitably going to take the bla.

“Relying on this to obstruct the vote won’t last long, not to ntion whether David will use other ans. Since such a globally watched bill has reached the Senate, a result will definitely be required, so do we have any other plans?” Henrietta also spoke up with a stern face.

The room fell silent for about a minute before a man with a hawkish nose stood up and said, “Miss Henrietta, I believe there is still one thing we can try!”

“Then let’s hear your approach, Stanciu!”

The man nad Stanciu turned around, pulled out a stack of docunts from his bag, and after searching through them carefully, he eventually drew out more than ten volus and pushed them in front of Henrietta.

Henrietta picked up one of the volus, glanced at it, and then looked up at him, “This is all information about those senators, why give it to ?”

“Miss Henrietta, you know what David is capable of; his forte is spinning scandals to blackmail those he aims to take down.”

“Just like with the congressn in the House of Representatives before, most of them succumbed to his pressure, and now I believe many senators are in the sa boat.”

“So my plan is… Let’s just go all-in!” he said, suddenly taking on a more ruthless tone.

“Hold on, Stanciu, what do you an by ‘go all-in’?” asked Prescott, not quite following and imdiately inquiring.

“It’s simple, the most effective way to control these senators and prevent them from flipping is by grasping their vulnerabilities; we can directly target their family mbers. Whether through threats of violence or actual detention, we can compel them to cast a vote against the bill in the Senate and kill the legislation!”

At that mont, Stanciu fully revealed his ruthless side.

He knew very well that if they could intimidate these congressn with threats and bribes, David could do the sa, or even worse.

The example from the House of Representatives was right there; despite spending a lot of money and exerting considerable pressure on the congressn, David still outmaneuvered them in the end.

But if they implented the thod he suggested this ti, those congressn would certainly not dare to make such a reversal again!

Because nothing could be more important than the lives of their family mbers!

Hearing such ruthless words, let alone the regular mbers, even experienced people like Prescott and Joshua were taken aback.

Those were senators of Arica, each one a top-tier politician, and among them, many could even beco future presidents.

Yet now, Stanciu was actually proposing to target their families to coerce their votes?

And it wasn’t just about targeting one or two individuals; to secure enough votes to kill the offshore tax avoidance bill, they needed at least nine more votes.

This ant they would have to take such extre asures against nine senators. If this got out, even if they held profound influence, the nation’s outcry would surely drown them!
