Chapter 641: Chapter 323: Stealing Your Ho

“Bang!”

As Murdoch was daydreaming, a loud noise startled him; he looked up and saw his secretary had barged in. He imdiately asked displeased, “How many tis have I told you, you must knock before entering!”

“Mr. Murdoch, our news corporation has been declared under investigation!”

“What?”

Murdoch was stunned on the spot, his face full of disbelief.

He certainly knew David was formidable, yet he had chosen to confront him because he knew that in Arica, freedom of the press was very important.

...

So, he had been certain before acting that even if David wanted to move against him, the higher-ups at the Internal Revenue Service would stop him.

But now, David dared to move against him?

Isn’t he afraid of condemnation, retaliation, and suppression of press freedom?

Even if David had gone mad, had the high-ranking officials of the IRS gone mad as well?

With nurous thoughts flashing through his mind, Murdoch still found it hard to believe and urgently asked, “What’s happening, what is the Los Angeles IRS up to?”

“Mr. Murdoch, it’s not the Los Angeles IRS, it’s the FBI!”

“What did you say!”

Murdoch was shocked again, then quickly confird, “You an, it’s not the Los Angeles IRS that announced the investigation, but the FBI?”

“Yes.”

“On what charges?”

“They declared the investigation on the grounds of reopening the old 9/11 wiretapping case.”

“9/11 wiretapping case!”

Murdoch’s face darkened upon hearing this.

He had settled that matter over a decade ago, and now it suddenly resurfaced, he didn’t believe that the FBI had found any new evidence.

Moreover, even if the FBI had so new evidence, there were many Freemasonry mbers within the agency, how could he not have received any information beforehand?

It must be… Yes, it definitely had sothing to do with David!

To gather more information, Murdoch picked up his phone and scrolled through his contacts, then dialed a number…

After about seven or eight minutes, having ended the call, his expression was even more somber.

According to the Freemasons in the FBI, this matter had been approved by a deputy director in charge of criminal investigations, and then forr special agent from Nevada State, Gavin, was selected to form the investigation team.

Murdoch had heard of Gavin; when stationed in Nevada, he had announced an investigation into Governor Stevenson, and it was clear he had already beco one of David’s stooges.

This indeed further confird Murdoch’s suspicion—that the FBI’s investigation against them from beginning to end was orchestrated by David!

But it must be said, David’s move was indeed very cunning.

Using the FBI to target them, keeping himself in the shadows as the puppet master, publicly it circulated that it wasn’t the IRS engaged in retaliation or suppressing press freedom. More importantly, it was attached to the old 9/11 wiretapping case.

9/11 was a sensitive chord for the Arican people. He had struggled imnsely to quiet that storm back then, and now with its reergence, coupled with David stirring the pot behind the scenes, this matter would be hard to suppress without clear results.

“Go, destroy all the data related to this matter, and…”

Destroying this data, collected over many years, was regrettable, but Murdoch couldn’t care less at the mont, as the situation was dire and needed to be handled flawlessly.

Otherwise, if this got blown out of proportion, he wouldn’t be able to block David’s advancent, and he himself might even be forced to step down.

As ti progressed, with the Ansa Group incessantly ‘fanning the flas’, the public opinion regarding the news corporation’s wiretapping scandal increasingly intensified.

Soon after the issue erupted, Freemasonry mbers led by Henrietta and Joshua Morgan, made anxious calls to Murdoch regarding the matter.

After all, their dia assault on David had just started gaining traction. With this scandal breaking, the dia battle would surely have to be put on hold.

But more crucially, it would be disastrous if the FBI really uncovered sothing substantial.

Thankfully, although the FBI had announced the reinvestigation of the case, they hadn’t yet declared possession of any concrete evidence.

After destroying all relevant materials, Murdoch also regained so confidence, providing so reassurance to the entire Freemasonry.

The next day arrived.

In the office of the director of the Los Angeles IRS,

“Gavin has gone to New York; the real show should begin now!”

“Heh, I’m curious to see how the stock market reacts after it opens, what the drop for the news corporation will be.”

“Here it cos!”

Nisen Bakesimmons chuckled among themselves, while David leisurely sipped his coffee. However, upon Simmons’ reminder, he too turned his attention to the large TV screen mounted on the wall.

“Hello, viewers, this is CNN. The investigation team led by Agent Gavin has now arrived at the New York headquarters of the news corporation. Let’s see what happens next…”

The TV screen showed Gavin, dressed in a black suit and sunglasses, stepping out of a vehicle and briskly entering the news corporation building.

About 15 minutes later, Gavin finally exited, and when people saw the large group he brought with him, the entire web exploded.
