As Muriel’s secretary, Jaraba had his days of influence while Muriel controlled the Western Suburbs Branch.

As they talked, a Chief Tax Officer suddenly barged in and said, “Bad news, Deputy Chief Muriel, I’ve just received word that the director wants to reopen the investigation into Rodrigozki’s case.”

But quickly, Jaraba was the first to recover, saying in utter dissatisfaction, “The case is already closed, what’s there to investigate?”
“The director said he thinks the case hasn’t been thoroughly investigated.”
Jaraba turned to look at Muriel and said, “Deputy Chief, this isn’t about the case being unclear, it’s definitely targeted at you. He just wants to use this case to put you in your place.”
At this mont, Muriel’s face was tight with a grim expression.
He wasn’t a fool; he had overseen and filed the case, and reopening the investigation now, whether aid at him or not, would certainly damage his standing within the departnt if sothing substantial was found.
