If Stevenson was behind this, we could simply start by dealing with Stevenson directly.
But if Stevenson went to these two n's superior, and it was this superior who instructed them, then we must take care of this superior as well.
Otherwise, just dealing with these two isn't going to fundantally solve the issue of the FBI ddling.
Seeing that there was silence for a long while, David ran out of patience and directly threatened, "If you don't explain yourselves, you'll be in court this afternoon. Although the money you've embezzled may not amount to a thousand-year sentence, I can assure you that for the rest of your lives, you'll never see the day you walk out of prison again!"
Mitchellson and Bronning's brows furrowed into a frown.
If soone else had said this, they wouldn't have been so scared, but coming from David, they couldn't help but be apprehensive.
After all, the Native Aricans and officials from both Sparks and Henderson had been personally sent to court by David and ended up with the death penalty.
And if they were really taken to court, their fate would certainly be no better.
With this in mind, Mitchellson and Bronning exchanged glances.
The two had been partners for many years and could understand each other's intentions with just a glance.
Thereupon, Mitchellson spoke up, "We can explain, but on the condition that you ensure we stay out of trouble!"
"Fine, I can promise you that!"
David wasn't very interested in dealing with these two FBI agents and agreed without a second thought.
"This matter was ordered by Special Agent Gavin. As for what deal Special Agent Gavin struck with the Governor, we have no idea," they said.
"Special Agent Gavin..."
David was taken aback but quickly regained his composure.
Although he had never dealt with this agent, he had heard of him as the top dog of the Nevada FBI.
Originally, he thought that Stevenson had directly promised benefits to Bronning and the other man or had reached out to their superiors.
But unexpectedly, it was this particular special agent who had given the orders.
It seems Stevenson's network was indeed not small.
Gathering his thoughts, David changed the subject, "What about the two gangs involved with Poppy?"
"We've arranged for them to be guarded at a certain location."
"Hand them over to us. Also, when you go back, if Gavin or anyone else contacts you, act as if nothing has happened and you haven't seen , understood?"
The two n paused, then nodded in unison.
David looked at Bucky and ordered, "Take them back, then arrange a location to take custody of the people and keep those two gangs under surveillance!"
"Understood."
No sooner had Simmons taken the two n away, Ariel walked in and said, "Chief Tax Officer, the Director is back and wants you to co to his office."
David imdiately stood up and arrived at the office door on the fourth floor. After knocking, he entered and said, "Director, you wanted to see ?"
"I've heard about it. Your Inspector Poppy from the task force has gotten into trouble?"
The Washington D.C. Headquarters had convened a eting of all the division directors from across the country these last two days, and William had just returned.
"Yes, here's the situation..."
David detailed everything about Stevenson and the FBI's investigation into Poppy.
"That damned Stevenson! Haven't the lessons from both Henderson and Sparks been enough for him to stop making trouble?"
"And the FBI as well, since when did they start investigating our Tax Investigators?"
Upon hearing everything, William burst into a tirade.
Stevenson, perhaps, could be overlooked, given that he had lost a son and wanted to retaliate, which was sowhat understandable.
But for the FBI to dare to ddle with their Tax Agency? That was absolutely brazen.
"Don't worry, Director, I'll handle this," David assured.
William's anger subsided as he looked at David and asked, "Are you sure you can handle this?"
He wasn't questioning David's abilities.
This matter wasn't like the previous crackdown, where arresting so municipal officials to set an example would be enough to intimidate the cities and break down the state governnt's directives.
The problem now was that the FBI and Stevenson had obtained Poppy's dirt. If they went public, not only David but also the Tax Agency would be caught in a dia storm.
All things considered, the matter seed very thorny.
"Whether I'm sure or not, I can't say, but what I can say is, if they dare to publish that file, they will pay a heavy price!"
"Alright, then you handle this. If there are any problems, co to anyti."
William didn't say more upon hearing David's resolute tone. Shifting gear, he said, "By the way, during my visit to the Washington D.C. Headquarters, besides the work report on taxation, the Headquarters also extensively discussed the Deification Project with us."
"Oh?"
David beca interested; the Deification Project was his current main concern.
"When the plan was initially announced, the Headquarters explained that once selected, the starting position would be a Tax Investigator, with the highest possible being a division director.
However, after days of discussion by the senior executives at Headquarters, it has been pretty much decided that once selected, one will be promoted directly to division director, and it might even be for one of the major cities!"
