David looked at him and asked, "Willing? Really?"
Nisen's face still carried an expression of frustration and reluctance, but he firmly nodded nonetheless.
David naturally saw the unwillingness in his heart and, after a mont of thought, said, "Nisen, we're all brothers here. You can speak your mind. If you truly don't want to, it's alright. I'll think of sothing."
Nisen lifted his head, a glimr of hope in his eyes.
Truth be told, if given the choice, he would rather die than leave the Lake District Sub-Bureau Branch.
Oh, no, to be precise, he didn't want to leave David's command.
Now, under David, he could work on any case and easily rake in a tax performance bonus of a hundred thousand.
If he were transferred sowhere else, he wouldn't dare dream of making a hundred thousand on a single case. With his skills and abilities, making that much in an assessnt period would already be considered lucky.
David continued to ask, "What do you say?"
Nisen clenched his teeth and with little confidence, asked, "What... What can be done?"
The pressure from the state governnt didn't bother them at the State Tax Bureau.
But the crux of the matter was the halving of tax performance in 18 cities—sothing all the State Tax Bureaus in Nevada couldn't withstand.
He really couldn't imagine what David could possibly do.
"You just need to answer whether you're willing to be transferred or want to stay. Leave the rest to to handle!"
After about 10 seconds of silence, Nisen gritted his teeth and said, "I want to stay here!"
David nodded in understanding, then stood up and walked out, quickly arriving at the director's office door. He knocked and entered.
"How is it, what did Nisen say?"
Seeing David enter, William stopped his work and looked up to ask.
David replied, "Nisen said he doesn't want to leave."
Upon hearing this, William beca troubled and then said, "David, this is an instruction from Director Jon. If Nisen doesn't transfer, it's going to be difficult..."
"What if I can handle the crackdown in all the cities; let the tax revenue return to normal?"
William was startled, not quite understanding David's aning, and then asked, "Handle the crackdown in all the cities? How?"
"I'll make a trip to Sparks City."
"A trip to Sparks City?"
David nodded and said nothing more.
William stared at David, continuously pondering, and it wasn't long before he seed to guess sothing, then replied, "If you can handle the crackdown in 18 cities and restore the normal tax work, the State Bureau won't be so troubled. As for whether Nisen transfers or not, it wouldn't matter, but that's if you can handle it!"
David understood William's implication and, without further ado, stood up and walked out, returning to his own office.
Seeing David co back again, Nisen's heart was in his throat because he knew the words that would decide his fate were coming in the next second.
As David picked up his coat, tax badge, and service pistol, he said, "You two, co with to Sparks City."
Bucky and Nisen were sowhat baffled, but with David's word, they didn't dare to delay and promptly went to the hall to fetch their own service pistols and tax badges.
Then the three of them walked out the door, got into Nisen's Volvo, and headed for Sparks City.
On the way there, David said, "Bucky, do you know any personnel from the State Tax Bureau in Sparks?"
"Sparks..."
After thinking for a mont, Bucky said, "I know an inspector nad Pope in the West Sparks Sub-bureau."
"Give him a call. Arrange to et their Tax Chief for a talk. Tell them to keep a low profile and say we have a favor to offer them!"
"Alright."
Bucky imdiately took out his phone and started scrolling through his contacts.
Before long.
In an office of the West City State Tax Bureau in Sparks City.
Pope walked in and said, "Tax Chief, David from the Las Vegas Lake District Sub-bureau Branch has co over. He wants to have a talk with you."
"David from Las Vegas?"
Richards was sowhat surprised, then, frowning, asked, "What's he doing here, not handling his cases in his jurisdiction?"
Recently, with David repeatedly topping the tax performance charts and leading ard operations, Richards had naturally heard of David.
But what did that have to do with him?
Their West Sparks Sub-bureau hadn't benefited at all; in fact, due to the Lake District Sub-bureau causing trouble with the state governnt, they were the ones who suffered.
And what irritated him the most was.
According to his information, all 18 State Tax Bureaus across Nevada had trouble, but Las Vegas alone had no issues whatsoever.
```
The city hall there hadn't issued any instructions for a crackdown, and the various branches were still collecting black taxes with great success.
The trouble was stirred up by the Lake District Sub-Bureau Branch, but in the end, they were the ones who got stuck carrying the bla, which certainly didn't please Tax Chief Richards.
"He said he wants to talk to you and asked you to arrange a eting place outside, also ntioned he'd give you a benefit!"
"He'd give a benefit?"
Richards was sowhat baffled but his interest was piqued. He replied, "Okay, then set up the eting at Rex's Café."
An hour later.
West Sparks, 16 Central Avenue, outside Rex's Café.
The Volvo that had co from Las Vegas pulled up at the curb. David and his two companions got out and entered the café.
"Director, that's them."
Bucky pointed toward Pope and his group at a nearby location, then took the lead, walking over and saying, "Pope, brother, long ti no see, how have you been?"
"With this citywide crackdown on criminals, many of my cases have gone to hell, so not great."
Bucky felt a tad embarrassed then introduced, "This is our Director David."
"This is our Tax Chief Richards."
When Pope introduced Richards, Richards didn't show any intention to rise; he just lounged with one leg crossed over the other, head not lifting as he blew on his steaming coffee.
"Tax Chief Richards, I'm David!"
After David introduced himself, Richards slowly set down his coffee and spoke indifferently, "Director David, I've heard from my subordinates that you're going to offer a benefit?"
David sat down and replied, "Yes."
"What benefit?"
"To end the crackdown here and... to give you an extra bonus in tax revenue!"
Richards's expression flickered but was quickly hidden as he replied skeptically, "These are instructions from the city hall. How can you make them stop?"
David did not answer directly, instead, he changed the subject, "Do you know why among the 19 cities in the state, only Las Vegas has not carried out the state governnt's crackdown instructions?"
"Because Las Vegas is a big city, their city hall can hold its own against the state governnt, and... also maybe they're a bit wary of your presence!"
Although he was irritated by David, Richards had no doubts about David's capabilities.
"That's right. I'm here this ti to make the city hall here wary of too!"
The reason David had co here was indeed mainly to take a similar approach to the Las Vegas City Hall.
He had guessed that it must have been the lesson given to Gray that caused the people at Las Vegas City Hall to be wary, not daring to implent the state governnt's directives like the other cities.
And this ti by handling the city hall here, the crackdown directive would naturally be canceled.
Richards scoffed and replied, "Las Vegas is your jurisdiction, you might be able to handle them, but you must understand, this is Sparks City, not your territory!"
"So what?"
Watching David's confident deanor, and recalling David's past achievents, Richards still patiently asked, "Then how do you plan to handle them?"
"You don't need to know that, but I need your people to cooperate, check so things for , set up so events, and afterwards, I guarantee you'll get a performance bonus of no less than $500,000, how about that?"
"$500,000?"
The huge figure stirred sothing within Richards, and after composing himself, he questioned, "You promise $500,000 just like that, what if I don't get it?"
"If you don't get it, I'll allocate it to you from my own performance bonus!"
"You sure?"
Richards couldn't stay seated anymore. With David making such a promise, no matter how he got that tax revenue in Sparks, Richards's inspection team was sure to be set!
The jewelry case that morning had caused his squad to lose almost $400,000 in performance, if they could make up for it here, that would be great!
"I'm sure. If you don't believe , we can sign a contract, anything's fine!"
Richards was overjoyed but still feigned composure in reply, "A contract isn't necessary. You, Director David, are also considered a star in our State Tax Bureau, you won't default on $500,000. Alright, what do you need us to do?"
"Firstly, I need the movents of the Sparks Police Commissioner, and the deputy mayor in charge of that system... Secondly, arrange the dia..."
Hearing David's series of requests, Richards nodded and said, "Those are not a problem. Anything else?"
"That's all for now, I'll let you know if there's anything else!"
Richards took out a pen and paper, wrote down a number, tore it off, and handed it to David, saying, "Here's my number, just inform of what you need!"
Having said that, he left with Pope and the others and got into the car.
"Director, the way he's going about this, he's planning to take on the police departnt and the city hall officials. His jurisdiction is only in Las Vegas, how can he be so confident in taking down those officials?"
Pope asked in bewildernt while driving.
Richards simply shrugged and replied nonchalantly, "Don't worry about it. Whether it works out or not, we'll still get the $500,000. Why not do it? As soon as we get back, find what he needs and send it to him!"
