613. A Terrible Reality!

The combat effectiveness of Sentinels is typically focused on their extrely durable, regenerative bodies and their devastating laser weaponry.

However, their true power can be broken down into three major aspects—their advanced intelligence and computational abilities, their mutant-detection capabilities, and their most terrifying trait: evolutionary adaptability.

They know how to achieve maximum efficiency in battle, exploiting human weaknesses to accomplish their goals. Their emotionless chanical cores make them perfect hunters, relentlessly eliminating their targets.

The ability to detect and adapt to mutant powers is what makes Sentinels a nightmare for any mutant.

In one-on-one combat, these terrifying machines often overwhelm their opponents with ease—even against Oga-level mutants.

Without outside intervention, it is nearly impossible for a group of recently awakened mutants to defeat a Sentinel on their own.

Alex stepped forward, calmly walking into the encirclent of the three Sentinels.

The robots surrounded him from three different angles, yet none of them attacked imdiately. Instead, they faced him directly, as if they were analyzing him.

"Sentinels modified using Mystique Raven's mutant genes? No… sothing feels off."

While the Sentinels scanned Alex, he was observing them in return.

At first glance, these three Sentinels strongly resembled Asgard's Destroyer, which was why Alex initially mistook them for the Sentinels from X-n: Days of Future Past.

Not just in appearance, but even in their combat behavior, these Sentinels functioned similarly—they had the ability to mimic various mutant powers.

That much was obvious from the first Sentinel he encountered, the one that phased through a wall—a clear sign of Kitty Pryde's ability. But upon closer inspection, Alex noticed so differences.

Unlike the scaly texture of the X-n: Days of Future Past Sentinels, these models lacked any form of external shifting plates, aning they couldn't freely switch abilities. Their mobility was also less fluid.

Most importantly, the clear nurical codes engraved on their chests confird one thing—these Sentinels were pre-programd with specific abilities at the ti of their creation and could not change them.

"So… have you decided whether or not to attack ?"

Alex slowly drew the long blade hidden within his black umbrella, his voice calm as he addressed the three Sentinels.

Unsurprisingly, the Sentinels remained silent, their unblinking gazes locked onto Alex as if they were still processing sothing.

"Alright then…"

Alex smirked.

"If you're not going to make a move… then I will—"

Before he even finished speaking, Alex launched himself forward, charging toward the Sentinel on his left.

With one swift motion, he swung his blade, aiming directly for the robot's head.

The Sentinel hesitated for a brief mont, almost as if it hadn't expected Alex to strike first. In response, it rely raised its arm, attempting to block the attack.

"An automatic defense system, huh? Pretty advanced…"

Alex imdiately understood the Sentinel's reaction protocols, but he didn't stop his attack. Instead, he pressed forward with even greater force.

"But my blade is even sharper!"

A flash of steel cut through the air.

Alex's figure blurred, swiftly dashing past the Sentinel.

Landing steadily on the ground, he flicked his blade, standing tall as behind him, the Sentinel's headless body shook violently before collapsing with a heavy thud.

Turning back to face the remaining two Sentinels, Alex let out a cold chuckle.

"So… according to your programming, humans without mutant genes or superpowers can't be hard, huh?"

As a Lord of a Dinsion, concealing his presence was second nature to Alex.

At this mont, he had completely suppressed his energy signature, making himself indistinguishable from an ordinary human. Even if a normal person were to fight him, it would seem like an even match. Yet, in this state, the Sentinels completely froze.

Originally, they had been drawn to Alex because of the power he had been radiating.

In this world, Sentinels didn't just hunt mutants—they targeted sorcerers, aliens, and supernatural beings as well.

Anything that wasn't pure human was considered a threat and marked for elimination, regardless of whether they were good or evil.

In a way, this was no different from the witch hunts of the past.

Although Alex wasn't entirely sure what had happened in this tiline, one thing was clear—humans and supernatural beings had reached a point of no return. But now that he had completely masked his presence, the Sentinels were locked in a paradox.

For the first ti, they had encountered a being they were programd to kill, but at the sa ti, their coding prevented them from harming a "human."

They were now stuck, unable to determine whether to attack or stand down.

Alex simply sighed.

"Whatever… let's just finish this quickly."

Shaking his head, he smirked, finding the situation amusingly pathetic. Although Sentinels were forbidden from harming humans, they were still allowed to defend themselves. However, defending was pointless when their bodies were incapable of stopping his blade.

Alex leaped forward, slashing downward and severing the Sentinel's arms in a clean cut. The severed limbs crashed onto the ground with a heavy thud, the edges smooth as glass, as if he had sliced through butter.

Yet, even as its companion was dismbered, the last remaining Sentinel didn't react at all—it simply stood there, as if it had been locked in an invisible cage, unable to move forward.

Without hesitation, Alex drove his blade straight through the chest of the disard Sentinel, twisting the blade violently to shred its inner components.

With a final sharp pull, he withdrew his blade, sending a spray of crimson fluid gushing from the Sentinel's chest cavity.

…?!

Blood splattered onto the ground.

The thick tallic scent of fresh blood filled the air.

Alex's movents stopped instantly.

His brows furrowed, his expression shifting to shock as he stared at the scarlet puddle pooling on the ground.

Before he could even process what had happened, the Sentinel's body collapsed, landing with a thunderous crash.

Alex snapped his head around, staring at the fallen robot.

His eyes locked onto the wound he had inflicted—the one now gushing with fresh, red blood.

Alex froze in place, completely stunned.

Originally, Alex thought he had pierced so kind of energy source inside the Sentinel, causing its core to spray oil—just like the way Ultron's robots spewed fluids when they were annihilated by the Scarlet Witch.

But he quickly dismissed that idea.

He wasn't so inexperienced rookie. After all these years, Alex had been through plenty, and he could easily distinguish between blood and oil.

As he silently stared at the now-incapacitated Sentinel, a sense of unease crept into his mind.

Activating the Sorcerer's Eye once more, Alex's pupils turned a ghostly green. His vision shifted, and the Sentinel before him was instantly transford into a clear, three-dinsional model.

The external structure of the Sentinel beca transparent, and within monts, its internal components were fully revealed before Alex's eyes.

Inside the Sentinel's body, a man lay completely naked, his life force long gone. His throat had been pierced through with a blade, and blood gushed out like a fountain.

Alex's expression darkened as the grim realization set in.

With a swift motion of his left hand, he reached into the void and grasped at the air.

In the next mont, the last remaining Sentinel—one that had been preparing to launch a sneak attack on him—was instantly frozen in midair, unable to move an inch.

Previously, Alex had suppressed his energy, making himself indistinguishable from an ordinary human, which had prevented the Sentinel from attacking him. But now that he had reactivated the Sorcerer's Eye, the machine was no longer constrained by that limitation.

Panting slightly, Alex's mind was far from calm.

Suppressing all his energy, he had completely overlooked the fact that these Sentinels actually had pilots inside them.

The mont he saw blood gushing from the Sentinel he had struck down, an extrely terrifying possibility surfaced in his mind—one he didn't want to believe. But now, he had no choice.

Turning to look at the Sentinel that had been preparing to ambush him, Alex's eyes flickered with light. In the next instant, the machine's internal structure was fully revealed in his vision.

Just like the previous one, this Sentinel also had a person trapped inside.

It was a woman with long, orange hair. But her condition was nothing short of horrifying—seven tubes were inserted into her skull, each connecting directly to the Sentinel's core. Additionally, a long, twenty-centiter needle had been driven into her back, piercing straight through her spine.

Her mouth hung open in an unconscious state, her pupils rolled back, leaving only the bloodshot whites of her eyes and an expression twisted in unbearable agony.

Rather than calling her a pilot, it would be more accurate to say she was the energy source of this Sentinel.

These damn Sentinels didn't have the ability to switch between different mutant powers—because the abilities they used were taken directly from the mutants trapped inside them!

"So."

Alex gritted his teeth slightly.

"That's the reason for the numbering, isn't it…"
