478. Soldier Boy Breaks Free.
"This is not the ti for jokes. We need to finish the mission as quickly as possible."
Cindy glanced at Butcher and slowly spoke.
Hearing this, Butcher shrugged indifferently.
In fact, he wasn't soone who liked to joke around during a battle. On the contrary, Butcher was usually the most composed one in critical monts. He was very good at controlling his emotions, except when it ca to matters involving his family.
The laboratory wasn't particularly large, and the only real hindrance for the group was the dim, disordered environnt.
However, most of the people present were superpowered individuals. For energy-based superhumans like Cindy and Electromagnetic Woman, they were extrely sensitive to similar energy fluctuations.
It didn't take long before Electromagnetic Woman noticed sothing and quickly walked toward a huge steel structure.
"I found it."
Carefully looking at the "canister-like" device in front of her, Electromagnetic Woman called out to the others, her eyes filled with complexity.
"Are you sure Soldier Boy is in this thing?" Butcher asked as he quickly approached her side.
"I'm not certain, but I can feel a strange energy—God, whatever's inside this thing can't be called human. Just standing here gives chills," Electromagnetic Woman said, her brow furrowed.
This was the first ti Electromagnetic Woman had felt such a terrifying presence since being enhanced by Alex. While she didn't know exactly what was inside the canister, she was sure whatever it was posed a serious threat.
"Since you're saying that," Butcher nodded thoughtfully. "Then it's probably Soldier Boy. This is the only thing here that could possibly be restraining him."
As he spoke, Butcher waved for Shaker to co over. "Quick, big guy, it's your turn. Open this thing, and we're done."
Shaker didn't refuse. He cracked his wrists and started walking toward the steel structure. But before he could take two steps, MM stopped him.
"Hold on, are we really just going to release Soldier Boy like this? Are you sure he won't attack us?"
"It's fine. With us here, he won't be able to cause much trouble," Cindy said dismissively. She wasn't concerned about Soldier Boy. She just wanted to finish the mission quickly so she could take revenge on the Vought Group sooner.
But to MM, those words sounded nothing short of arrogant. He stared at Cindy seriously and said, "Soldier Boy was once the strongest hero for the country. Those who underestimated him are already dead without a trace."
"Enough, MM. There's no point in discussing this now," Butcher interjected when he noticed Cindy's displeased expression.
"Our goal here is to rescue Soldier Boy and let him and Vought's group tear each other apart. We're so close, we can't back out now."
Seeing the leaders speak up, Shaker had no more doubts. He gently pushed MM aside and walked up to the steel canister.
Grabbing the steel plate, which could barely be called a "door," Shaker felt its toughness and clenched his teeth as he began applying force.
Electromagnetic Woman placed a hand on her temple. She could sense that although the power was out, there was still enough backup power to trigger an alarm.
To avoid exposing their position at the most critical mont and alerting the soldiers outside, Electromagnetic Woman activated her ability again, forcibly shutting down the potential alarm triggers from the surrounding systems.
Screech—
Just as she finished, the sound of steel being twisted under imnse force ca from Shaker's direction. The tallic friction lasted for a mont before it suddenly burst.
Shaker quickly stepped back, gripping the large tal door that now bore two obvious handprints.
Hiss...
White gas filled the interior of the canister. The mont Shaker opened it, thick clouds of mist erupted, obscuring everyone's vision.
Everyone was focused intently on the canister, eager to confirm whether Soldier Boy was indeed inside. They were also curious about what this hero from decades ago looked like now.
Cindy made a grabbing motion in the air, and suddenly, a gust of wind and a low-frequency sonic boom swept through the still laboratory. In an instant, the swirling white mist was completely cleared away, revealing the scene inside.
Inside the cylindrical steel container, a muscular man, completely naked, was lying motionless.
His hair was disheveled, his face covered in stubble, and he looked like a holess man. However, unlike a holess person, his body was covered in muscle, and anyone could tell that his powerful physique contained terrifying strength.
The atmosphere in the room imdiately beca tense, and everyone silently stared at the man inside the container, their expressions serious and heavy.
Before, they hadn't felt much due to the container's isolation, but now, as Shaker opened the container, everyone felt a terrifying pressure bearing down on them.
Butcher didn't make a move, but Soldier Boy slowly began to open his eyes.
He had been trapped here for a long ti, and the endless tornt he had endured had driven him sowhat insane.
Dazed, Soldier Boy instinctively raised his arm and removed the respirator from his face.
Strictly speaking, calling it a "respirator" was inaccurate. Due to Soldier Boy's extre physical strength, the military scientists had specifically developed a chemical gas to keep him unconscious.
Previously, the container had been completely sealed, filled with this gas, which kept Soldier Boy in a state of slumber. Now that the container had been opened, his powerful recovery abilities allowed him to quickly wake up.
Seeing Soldier Boy move, Butcher tightened his grip on his gun. He didn't act imdiately, but he knew that while he was here to rescue Soldier Boy, the man in front of him couldn't be considered a good guy.
If Soldier Boy was truly as vile as Crow had said, that ant he might turn on them at any mont.
Of everyone present, MM's feelings were the most complex.
After decades, he was finally seeing the man who had killed his grandfather. MM could barely contain his desire to eliminate him right then and there.
But feeling the imnse pressure from Soldier Boy, MM knew that he probably didn't have the ability to hurt him.
Pulling the respirator off his face, Soldier Boy staggered out of the container.
He took a deep breath, his muscles stretching with the movent. At the sa ti, a strange energy began to gather rapidly in his chest.
In the dim light, the glow from below Soldier Boy's chest was unmistakable.
At that mont, a feeling of impending doom washed over everyone. Every superhuman in the room imdiately tensed up.
While Butcher and MM, being ordinary humans, didn't sense the energy as strongly, the others were not so lucky.
As those who had been injected with the sa Compound V as Soldier Boy, no one could sense the terrifying power within him more acutely than Cindy and the others.
"Run!"
At that mont, even Cindy could no longer stay calm.
As a superhuman who could ntally disintegrate soone into pieces, she could only feel boundless destruction emanating from Soldier Boy, an energy she couldn't possibly contend with.
Without needing Cindy's warning, Butcher reacted the fastest. As soon as Soldier Boy made a move, Butcher turned and grabbed the frozen MM, pulling him toward the exit.
The others didn't hesitate either. The overwhelming sense of impending death made them want to leave imdiately. Jetstream grabbed Cindy and Electromagnetic Woman by the collars and flew toward the door.
Poison Dart Frog and Shaker were quick to react as well, cursing their lack of speed-based powers. They wished they could grow two more legs.
Just as the group was about to reach the exit, the destructive energy behind them finally reached its peak.
A brilliant beam of light cut through the night sky, and the entire military fortress's research facility exploded in a deafening blast!
