116. A Deal with the Devil.
"There's nothing to discuss. You're not welco here. Get out!"
phisto's previously elegant deanor vanished. He couldn't even bother to maintain his current appearance. In the blink of an eye, he transford into a towering, two-ter-tall, crimson-skinned demon.
Despite phisto's apparent anger, Alex felt no fear. With the Tipad's aid, Alex knew phisto couldn't threaten his life. Staying vigilant internally, Alex outwardly remained calm.
"Let's discuss this. Since you know what this object represents, you must also understand the terrible danger it poses. If left unchecked, the entire universe will be in peril."
"What does that have to do with ?" phisto sneered. "I've witnessed the end of reality and experienced the void of consciousness. I understand multiversal crises better than you, wizard."
"But this situation is different. Based on my experiences, it's already out of control. I've seen it devour entire multiverses—stars collapsing, everything perishing. When that ti cos, even beings like you won't survive."
Staring intently at Alex, phisto realized this wizard was more 'dangerous' than expected. "You ca here to find , so you must have encountered it. Yet, you weren't corrupted. How did you manage that?" phisto asked.
"Maybe it didn't notice . Its target is the main universe, and it observes entities based on the primary universe's foundation. As an 'outsider,' I'm not included in its scope," Alex replied.
phisto fell silent for a mont, seemingly accepting Alex's explanation. After a while, he spoke again. "That entity possesses a distorted consciousness, different from any matter or awareness. It was born from the void and originated from the end."
Seeing Alex about to speak, phisto raised his hand to stop him and continued, "I know what you're about to ask, but I don't know its origins. I know even less than you. If you seek my help, I'm afraid I can't offer much. My only advice is to run, as far as you can."
Listening to phisto, Alex frowned. He had thought the entity was a high-level creation transcending the universe's reality layer. But from phisto's perspective, everything related to it seed more obscure and incomprehensible. Previous clear thoughts now turned into a tangled ss. Alex even questioned whether he should continue getting involved. Quickly, Alex took a deep breath, regaining his composure.
Looking at the grave-faced phisto, Alex spoke again. "Actually, I've thought of a way to resolve this. But I can't do it alone. I need help from beings who control entire dinsions."
"Are you insane?"
phisto stared in disbelief at Alex, as if looking at a cultist lost in madness. "Didn't you understand? That entity cos from a world beyond destruction. If you touch it recklessly, you will beco a part of it."
"I'm not insane. I'm not planning to confront it directly. Its corruption is more terrifying than I imagined. But I found a loophole. It corrupted the tiline but didn't corrupt history. If I have enough power, I can create a new tiline from scratch."
"You still say you're not crazy?" phisto interrupted Alex, unable to hold back. "Altering history is far from easy, let alone creating a parallel universe identical to the original tiline."
"But this thod is feasible, right?" Alex countered.
phisto was stunned. Gazing into Alex's eyes, he was montarily speechless, realizing the wizard was serious. In the howling winds of the Hell frontier, the atmosphere between Alex and phisto grew subtle.
Alex remained silent for a while, then smiled. Just as phisto could see through him, Alex gleaned the answers he sought from phisto's reaction. They both fell into a knowing silence. After a long pause, phisto broke the silence. "What's in it for ?"
Hearing this, Alex's heart finally settled.
"To reduce the main world's resistance, it's focused on Earth, concentrating its corruption there. After this is done, the entire tiline and all uncorrupted souls—how about that as paynt?"
"You're willing to go that far? Isn't your goal to save those people? How can you offer their souls to ?" phisto murmured.
"It doesn't matter. This reality can't be saved. But they will live well in another tiline," Alex replied calmly.
"Then, will 'they' still be 'them'?" phisto sneered.
Seeing Alex's lack of response, phisto continued, "To those in the new world, you're nothing. No one will thank you for saving them. No one will even rember you. But in the original world, everyone you know, every friend, they will all die because of your plan. In their understanding," phisto pointed to the sky, "the world wasn't destroyed by that bizarre corrupting entity but by you, the outsider."
"It doesn't matter."
Alex finally spoke, showing no signs of inner turmoil but rather an unusual calmness.
"I don't care about anyone's misunderstandings. I don't need to explain myself. I want to save this universe because 'I want to,' nothing more."
"Heh heh heh heh heh ha ha ha ha."
phisto laughed, whether in mockery or sarcasm, then stopped, his expression becoming serious. "Deal, but it's not enough. To complete your plan, we need at least one more dinsional lord."
"I know." Alex nodded, then slightly bowed to phisto. "It so happens I have key to another dinsion. Care to join for a visit?"
