Chapter 944: Chapter 875: The Criminal Maniac and the Last Survivor Chapter 944: Chapter 875: The Criminal Maniac and the Last Survivor Beverly Hills, Nolan’s mansion.
Emma Thomas, accompanied by her assistant, began distributing gifts, every guest at the party received a tote bag containing a beautifully wrapped gift box.
Even Martin received one.
Although this could not guarantee others would cast their Oscar nomination votes for “Interstellar,” with the increasingly monetized Oscar campaign environnt, if soone else gave a gift and you did not, voters were inevitably biased.
Nicholson, that shaless old guy, said to Martin, “I don’t rember which Oscar campaign team sent what gift, but I can definitely rember those who didn’t send anything.”
Martin handed the tote bag to Bruce and said, “Jack, you’re really damn talented. Are all the old white guys like this?”
Nicholson waved his hand, “Don’t worry about these details. When you beco an old white guy, you’ll be the sa.”
Martin retorted, “I don’t need to beco an old white man to rember not to let those who haven’t sent us gifts enter our fair voting process.”
Nicholson asked, “Have you co up with a new ga for this year’s Oscar voting?”
Martin shook his head, “I’m waiting for you and Leo to co up with a new idea.”
As they spoke, Leonardo led an overweight Asian with rimless glasses over.
“Hey, Martin, Jack, let introduce a friend of mine to you.” Leonardo gestured to the chubby Asian, “This is John Liu, an investor from Malaysia who has been working with my Pave Road Entertainnt for several years. John, no need for to introduce these two, right?”
John Liu shook hands with Martin and Nicholson respectively, “Leo has always ntioned you both, but I’ve never had the chance to et. I’m very honored to et you this ti.”
Martin smiled and replied, “Don’t ntion it.”
Nicholson had retired and was comparatively cooler, nodding, “Nice to et you.”
John Liu’s target wasn’t Nicholson; he spoke to Martin, “Mr. Davis, I deeply admire your eye for investing in movies. If you need funds, I can mobilise them anyti.”
Martin responded diplomatically, “If I need it, I’ll contact you.”
John Liu handed out a gold-embossed business card to Martin, exchanged a few pleasantries, and took his leave.
“An investor from Malaysia?” Nicholson emphasized, asking Leonardo, “Is this the guy backing you up from behind?”
Leonardo understood the hidden implication and retorted imdiately, “What do you an by backing from behind? Clearly, I’m giving this guy a chance to invest in Hollywood.”
Martin inquired, “You’ve worked with him many tis?”
Leonardo nodded, “It started after 2010… well, including ‘Shutter Island’ that my Pave Road Entertainnt invested in.”
He shifted his tone, “If you’re short on funds, he has the ans. These past few years, John has been spending particularly lavishly in North Arica.”
“I know.” Martin had actually dealt with John Liu in normal business dealings, “The houses I bought from Depp were ultimately sold to John Liu at a high price.”
Leonardo questioned, “The villa in Paris, the penthouse in the Columbia Tower, and the beachfront mansion in Malibu?”
Those deals held no potential hidden issues, and Martin confird, “That’s right, he dished out 100 million dollars for them, truly flush with cash.”
Nicholson, cunning with age, cautioned Leonardo, “So investors’ money cos from dubious sources and can lead to trouble; keep an eye out.”
Leonardo laughed, “A lot of the money invested in Hollywood has issues; it’s been a tradition for decades.”
Martin and Nicholson both understood Leonardo’s point, the film industry had always been the best channel for money laundering.
Leonardo added, “Don’t worry, this is Arica, not Malaysia.”
Martin thought of so past incidents and also offered a warning, “I’ve got so ties in Asia and several investors supporting . From what they’ve told , John Liu’s relationship with the Malaysian authorities is complicated; he’s likely a proxy for so high officials. If problems arise and the Malaysian governnt intervenes through diplomatic channels, it could cause trouble.”
Leonardo listened to Martin’s advice, “I’ll be extra careful.”
Martin’s warning was sufficient; Leonardo had been in North Arica for many years and had established a solid foundation.
The screening party ended before ten o’clock.
Originally, the three had planned to wash up, but Nicholson, getting older and having consud alcohol that evening, was clearly not his usual self.
Martin simply decided to take him ho.
Leonardo, without any sense of loyalty, had a last-minute date with a model.
Martin, alone, had planned to look for Louise, but before leaving Beverly Hills, he received a call from Anya Taylor Joy.
She wanted to invite him for a late-night snack.
Martin turned the car around and headed for Wilshire Boulevard, where he t Anya at the prearranged restaurant.
She was dressed in a white blouse, black mini skirt, and fishnet stockings. Although her appearance seed a bit weird, it was still within the bounds of conventional beauty standards, especially given her excellent figure.
Many Hollywood actresses got uglier the more they went under the knife.
In Martin’s previous life, global aesthetic standards seed to be declining.
Not just in his own entertainnt circle, but even new-generation actresses in Hollywood compared poorly to the bloom of beauties around the year 2000.
Although most Hollywood actresses had so form of costic surgery, most were subtle adjustnts, like Scarlett Johansson’s nose or Julia Roberts’ eyes.
