Half an hour later, successfully arrived at Pulton Military Base. From afar, the base buildings were visible, and Allen Zhang had Boketu make contact with the control tower ahead of ti to inform them of the details.
Upon receiving the military’s permission to land, Boketu piloted the Black Hawk Helicopter, circling above the military base and successfully landing at their central airfield.
As soon as he disembarked from the aircraft, Allen Zhang saw a young man in military uniform approaching enthusiastically, greeting him, "Hello, Mr. Jin. I’m the assistant military officer to Colonel Mont, you can call Carter."
"Hello, Major Carter." Allen Zhang glanced at his rank and imdiately smiled and shook hands with him.
"Regarding the specifics, Colonel Wood has already contacted us in advance. Our base commander and Colonel Mont are also willing to enter into this cooperation with you, but Colonel Mont is currently not inside the base, so I will be handling the entire negotiation process with you," said Major Carter with a smile.
"Not being able to et Colonel Mont is truly my loss and regret, however, I trust that with Major Carter taking charge of this matter, we can smoothly finalize this transaction."
Allen Zhang, knowing how to talk to different people appropriately, said with a smile, "The goods we are transporting are already en route and should arrive in just over an hour."
"There’s no rush for the transactions, we have plenty of ti. Mr. Jin, this might be your first ti visiting our Willton Military Base, so we can first tour the base’s construction and military aspect."
Major Carter glanced at the Black Hawk Helicopter, understanding it must be a retired model from a military base. As soone within the circle, he also knew of so internal adjustnts Colonel Wood had recently undergone, with the forr earning quite a bit of money and even getting promoted!
But he chose to keep silent about this matter.
He enthusiastically showed the General Sect Leader and his group around the Willton Military Base’s environnt and introduced its history. Allen Zhang happily agreed.
Willton was established around the 1970s. At that ti, xico’s economy had already shifted from a high-speed developnt stage to a stagnant phase, gradually beginning to decline each year.
The main reason was that the economic boom did not improve the basic employnt environnt. Despite a high GDP, high housing prices, high consumption, and high dical expenses, the wages of the lower classes remained very low. This pattern continued for over a decade and was also marked by food safety scandals.
Many xicans dissatisfied with the dostic employnt environnt protested, but the higher-ups turned a blind eye, believing these issues would be resolved with economic growth. However, as the saying goes, the water that bears the boat is the sa that swallows it up, leading to the evident collapse of the xican economy, which now relied rely on annual drug exports to barely support the budget deficit.
Many downtrodden xicans chose to climb over the wall to work illegally on the West Coast.
At that ti, the Pentagon and the California State Governnt set up several military bases along the border line in response to this event, working with the police forces of border cities to combat criminal and terrorist elents.
As ti passed and xico’s economy nearly collapsed, completely unable to recover, the Pentagon, considering the level of national threat, had already closed several military bases, only retaining a few strategic locations, and the Willton Military Base in California was among them.
After touring around, Allen Zhang also learned about the Willton Military Base. The base’s equipnt and manpower were not as substantial as those at the base where Colonel Wood was stationed. The Apaches and Black Hawks appeared to be models from the last century, exuding an air of thrift and frugality.
Compared to other military bases in California, the Willton Military Base could be considered quite established, with many facilities designed for rapid counter-terrorism purposes. Although it had not been decommissioned, it had also not undergone any refurbishnts, still maintaining the style of the 1970s, and many communication equipnt and ard forces had not been updated.
But was it truly impoverished? Not necessarily. After all, just those exported arms deals alone brought in millions in profits, extrely lucrative.
It was purely an act of feigning poverty, in order to deal with inspections from above and to request subsidies.
With several generations of base commanders, the Pentagon might have believed their claims of poverty during the Cold War era, but now in the 21st century, after several exposures of internal dealings, such as a screw cap costing sixty thousand US dollars, no one would believe their cries of poverty anymore!
"Major Carter, I notice that your base doesn’t seem to have much advanced equipnt. Even the weapons used by the soldiers are old models. Why haven’t you tendered for new military supplies?" Allen Zhang inquired of the other party.
"It’s a situation with no choice really. It has been proposed a long ti ago to decommission Willton Base, though after internal etings, the base managed to retain its slot through the opposition of military district leaders. However, in terms of resource allocation, equipnt tendering, and funding projects, our base is basically at the bottom of the priority list, completely overlooked. So, we can only purchase so second-hand military arms discarded by other military bases, or buy equipnt from small manufacturing companies."
