Chapter 891: Harding passed away_3

If Coolidge wanted his confidant to take the stage, then so be it. Essentially, it was just diverting the money previously given to Harry D’Agostino and Harding to Coolidge and the people Coolidge wanted to support!

“Donnie, hearing you say this makes very pleased. However, if Harry, as the Secretary of the Departnt of Justice, were to voluntarily resign after his term ends, I believe that would be the best outco!”

Donnie nodded, understanding Coolidge’s intentions, and replied with a smile: “I understand. I’ll personally arrange to et with Harry within the next couple of days!”

Coolidge left Block Manor in Washington feeling content.

In truth, there was no need for Donnie to arrange a eting with Harry D’Agostino. Shortly after Donnie arrived in Washington, Harry D’Agostino quickly made his way to Block Manor.

At this mont, Harry D’Agostino’s deanor could be described as the complete opposite of Coolidge’s.

Harding had been Harry D’Agostino’s source of confidence as a mber of the Cabinet, but now that Harding had passed away, Harry D’Agostino sensed that power was slipping away from him as well.

He knew about the relationship between Donnie and Coolidge, so now he was here to seek Donnie’s help!

“Dear Donnie, as a friend, you must help this ti!”

Upon seeing Donnie, Harry D’Agostino no longer bore the sa smug expression he once had.

“Dear Harry, don’t worry for now. If there’s anything I can do to help you, I’ll certainly do my best to help.”

Hearing Donnie say this, Harry D’Agostino let out a slight sigh of relief and began to explain his current situation, subtly hinting that he wished to continue serving as the Secretary of the Departnt of Justice.

He hoped Donnie would speak with Coolidge on his behalf!

Donnie displayed a troubled expression.

“Harry, if it were any other matter, I wouldn’t hesitate to help you, but this… I truly can’t do anything. To be honest, John has already spoken with about it. We’re hoping that you’ll voluntarily resign once your term ends!”

Harry D’Agostino’s expression darkened imdiately. He hadn’t expected this response from Donnie and felt furious about Coolidge’s ruthlessness.

Donnie didn’t want Harry D’Agostino to say anything that would leave everyone in an awkward position. If that were to happen, the situation would only beco even more complicated!

“Harry, the current circumstance is already crystal clear. Even if you don’t voluntarily resign, John will undoubtedly reappoint Cabinet mbers when the ti cos. Of course, I also believe that you and the people behind you might have so ans to intervene in this matter.

But what would the outco be?

If you fail, you’ll truly offend Coolidge, and the result won’t be favorable for you.

If you succeed, you’ll still just be a mber of the Cabinet, and Coolidge will still have other ways to target you.

Rather than facing such a result, why not step down gracefully? Do you still rember what we talked about before?

I’ve already prepared a beachfront villa for you in Atlantic City, and the legal counsel position at Breton Bank has always been reserved for you.

If we join hands then, we can turn Breton Bank into an even more massive comrcial empire than the bootlegging empire. Wouldn’t that be much better?”

Harry D’Agostino suppressed his anger and began to seriously consider Donnie’s proposal.

The truth was, losing the role of Secretary of the Departnt of Justice ant losing a great deal of power and wealth. But whether he could retain those powers and wealth even in the next year was an uncertain matter.

anwhile, if he were to join Donnie’s Breton Bank and leverage the connections and relationships he’d built up over the years, he could indeed accomplish a great deal.

“Harry, as a friend, I must remind you of one thing,” Donnie continued.

“The Teapot Do oil field scandal isn’t over. Now that Harding has passed, there’s no one left to suppress it anymore. The Democratic Party will surely use this matter to launch a full-scale attack on you.

By that ti, Coolidge certainly won’t speak on your behalf regarding this matter.”

Harry D’Agostino’s face tightened: “But if I lose my position as Secretary of the Departnt of Justice, I’ll have even less leverage to fight them off!”

Donnie reassured him: “You may lose the title of Secretary of the Departnt of Justice, but as the legal counsel of Breton Bank, we’d be on the sa team. Naturally, I’d have your back.

In fact, before you arrived, I had already spoken with Albert Furr. Albert Furr has agreed to take full responsibility for the matter and won’t ntion anyone else’s na.

Additionally, I’ll speak with Coolidge on your behalf to push for so compromises with Congress and the Democrats. I believe we can keep this matter under control within a manageable scope.”

Harry D’Agostino fell into deep thought once again. This was a significant matter, and he needed to weigh nurous factors, including his own interests and those of the people behind him.

Ultimately, Harry D’Agostino stated that he would carefully consider the proposal and would inform Donnie of his decision as soon as he made up his mind.

Donnie expressed his understanding.

In the following days, Donnie t with several other important figures and then traveled to Harding’s hotown to attend Harding’s funeral.

At Harding’s funeral, Donnie once again saw Harry D’Agostino. Harry D’Agostino revealed that he had made up his mind and agreed to voluntarily resign at the end of his term next year!

Donnie was very pleased with this outco.

He imdiately conveyed the news to Coolidge.

Coolidge was delighted upon hearing it.

It could be said that after Harding’s passing, everyone involved managed to achieve relatively satisfactory outcos.

After attending Coolidge’s inauguration ceremony, Donnie decided it was ti to officially depart for Europe!
