Chapter 868: 297, Lawyer Super Group

While Donnie was studying how to join the Federal Reserve, an event outside of Atlantic City once again captured the attention of the Arican public.

And the reason why it is said “once again” is because this issue had already drawn the public’s attention in the United States.

Teapot Do oil field scandal!

After British Military Intelligence Six blew the whistle on this, the United Kingdom got revenge for Sinclair Oil Corporation snatching the mining rights for the Baku Oil Field from them, and then left with a flourish!

After that, Donnie successively took over Sinclair Oil Corporation and Breton Bank while also reorganizing his own Venus Consortium, which to a certain extent diverted a lot of attention from the Arican public.

This caused the Teapot Do oil field scandal to temporarily calm down.

But this was only temporary.

Next year, the United States will be facing the presidential election, and at this crucial juncture, naturally, the Democratic Party would not give up on this matter.

As Donnie quieted down and ceased to attract public attention, the Democrats brought up the issue again.

Democratic candidate John Davis attacked the Harding Administration multiple tis in public, claiming that it was Harding’s indulgence that allowed Albert Furr to dare to ignore the Constitution of the United States and engage in allocating national reserve oil fields to private entities.

John Davis even declared that he would continue to pay attention to this matter, and if the Harding Administration could not give an explanation to the Arican public, then even if it ant giving up the presidential race, he would proceed to sue Albert Furr and Harding in his capacity as a lawyer!

In the United States, John Davis is a highly influential figure; he graduated from Washington and Lee University in his early years, becoming a lawyer. Like many Arican families, his father was a Democrat, and he also joined the Democratic Party, becoming a staunch defender of conservatism within the United States Democratic Party.

With the help of his family, John Davis later beca a House of Representatives mber from West Virginia and in 1913 beca the United States Solicitor General. By 1918, he had beco the Ambassador of the United States to the United Kingdom.

Now, John Davis has beco the Democratic presidential candidate!

At this ti, all the newspapers controlled by the Democratic Party were reporting on this issue, causing the Teapot Do oil field scandal to rise again. At this ti, the word “oil” could be seen in all newspapers in the United States.

Under such public pressure, Harding was caught in an unprecedented political crisis. To cope with this crisis, Harding still did not compromise with his wife, i.e., the Cleveland Consortium behind him, seeking more help. Instead, he secretly ran to Atlantic City.

“Donnie, this ti you must help !”

At this mont, Harding no longer possessed his forr scholarly grace, and his eyes showed a hint of panic.

“Dear Harding, don’t panic. We have always been the closest friends, and I will certainly support you in your ti of need!”

Donnie sincerely invited Harding to sit on the sofa.

Sitting there, Harding said sowhat viciously, “It’s all that damned Albert Furr’s fault; if he hadn’t deceived , I wouldn’t be in this situation!”

Donnie didn’t take Harding’s complaints seriously; regarding the concession of Teapot Do and the other two oil fields, Donnie wouldn’t believe for a mont that Harding was completely uninford. Donnie even suspected that Harding might have received benefits from this affair!

“Dear Harding, it’s no use trying to trace who’s responsible now. What’s crucial for you at this mont is to find a way to regain the trust of the Arican public!”

Harding nodded, “I have already discussed this with Harry and others; we have decided to start a national tour of speeches. I believe that through these speeches, I will definitely be able to restore my image!”

Donnie understood Harding’s implied aning; giving speeches would require money, and this money would have to co out of Harding’s own pocket. So, Harding was now seeking political donations from him!

“Of course, I hope that your ‘Atlantic City Post’ and ABC will speak for at this ti!”

In addition to seeking political donations, Harding needed the support of public opinion.

Donnie did not deny Harding because Harding had only two months to live, which only Donnie knew about. Others were unaware, and Donnie needed to maintain his image in front of others—that he would not abandon his political allies.

Moreover, Donnie could not be certain whether Harding would actually pass away or not. If Harding did not die, Donnie could also use this situation to continue to deepen the relationship with Harding.

“Of course, certainly!” Donnie firmly stated, “I have prepared $500,000 in cash for you, Harding, and my funds will provide for you continuously whenever you need it!”

Having received Donnie’s affirmative response, Harding’s anxious deanor finally began to calm down.

“Dear Donnie, I knew you would always be my dearest friend!”

Donnie smiled and asked Harding, “For this tour of speeches, who are you planning to take with you?”

Harding gave Donnie so nas, most of whom were part of his previous campaign team, but Albert Furr was missing, showing that Harding was truly disappointed with Albert Furr at this ti.
