Chapter 748: 257. The Speaker is not irreplaceable.

Trenton city, New Jersey, the famous local estate in the Fifth District – Belk Estate!

This used to be the residence of George Belk, a well-known cable rchant from Trenton. However, with the rise of the steel business in Philadelphia, the Belk family’s fortunes plumted. Coupled with reckless investnts by his descendants, the Belk family’s wealth declined, and so, the Belk Estate, once a symbol of the Belk family in Trenton, was put up for sale!

A few days ago, this estate was purchased by soone arranged by Donnie.

Tonight, the estate was decorated splendidly and lavishly, hosting an enviable party for outsiders!

As the host, Donnie was naturally already there!

“How do you like it? Are you satisfied with this place?” Donnie, seated in a spacious and bright study room with an obvious dieval European style, asked Alice, who was wearing an evening gown that accentuated her good figure.

...

Alice sat on the deep brown sofa, lightly patted the sofa, and gave her opinion, “It’s not bad, just a bit dated.”

Donnie laughed and said, “We won’t be living here all the ti, just visiting occasionally!”

“If that’s the case, I have no objections!” Alice got up and went over to Donnie, who was sitting behind the desk, leaped onto the desk, her long and slender legs swinging playfully.

Then, with a hint of curiosity, Alice asked Donnie, “Since you want to use the shipyard to control more voters in New Jersey and influence the elections, why not choose Trenton? This city has the geographical conditions for it, and there’s also a JK Shipyard in Trenton, right?”

For people from the East, Trenton has always had a low profile compared to ga-cities like New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles, or even compared to Atlantic City and Las Vegas. But in reality, Trenton is very significant in the United States.

Many people don’t know that Trenton once served as the temporary capital of the United States and was the site of General Washington’s first victory during the Arican Revolutionary War.

Back then, it was one of the places where secret etings and strategic planning for the United States took place.

After the Revolutionary War, Trenton briefly beca the capital of the United States. Washington had considered making Trenton the permanent capital, but the idea was abandoned due to opposition from the southern states who felt it was too close to the North.

As Trenton began to develop later on, it beca an important manufacturing center in the United States, with a slogan at the ti: “Trenton Makes, The World Takes.”

At that ti, the main products manufactured in Trenton were rubber, wire, ceramics, and cigars.

Later, because of Trenton’s geographical environnt, several shipyards erged.

The most famous of these was the JK Shipyard that Alice just ntioned!

Donnie shook his head and said, “There’s no need for that. This is the capital of New Jersey, where all the officials of New Jersey are based. If we created or acquired a shipyard here, it would an one less place for the officials and state legislators of New Jersey to showcase their status. You should know that distance makes the heart grow fonder. If we were too close to them, many direct conflicts of interest could arise, which would be problematic.”

Upon hearing Donnie’s explanation, Alice nodded. She had only been casually curious and hadn’t given it much thought. Since Donnie had a plan, she didn’t intend to say anything more!

At that mont, Steve Cotting walked in, “Boss, all the guests have arrived!”

Donnie stood up, took Alice’s hand, and she jumped down from the desk. He said with a smile, “Let’s go et these high-ranking officials from New Jersey!”

Given Donnie’s status in the United States today, everyone in New Jersey who had received an invitation to the party had arrived at the venue.

Alice, arm in arm with Donnie, watched him mingle among New Jersey’s dignitaries.

“Governor Edwards, you’re still as charming as ever!”

Donnie greeted Governor Riel Edwards of New Jersey with a smile, and Riel Edwards responded with a beaming smile, “Donnie, there’s no need for such formality between you and . However, I haven’t had the chance to properly thank you for this ti!”

The U.S. elections were drawing near, and Riel Edwards was running for Governor of New Jersey once again.

In such circumstances, the relationship between Riel Edwards and Donnie was naturally that of allies!

Riel Edwards needed the votes from Donnie’s Atlantic City. Although the population of Atlantic City was not significant in New Jersey, in the context of the still imperfect election tallies of the ti, Atlantic City could produce tens of thousands more votes than its permanent population each year.

Previously, Nucky, the brigadier of Atlantic City, beca a significant figure in New Jersey under such circumstances.

Now, Donnie’s influence in Atlantic City far surpassed that of Brigadier Nucky, and with ABC and the “Atlantic City Post,” Donnie could significantly influence the choice of the Governor of New Jersey.

Riel Edwards understood this, so before the start of the party, Riel Edwards had already t with Donnie one-on-one for a long conversation!
