Capítulo 1445: Chapter 509: The Matter of the Bootlegging Syndicate Settled

“Did Jack Morgan agree to your terms?”

After returning to the seaside manor, Helen, who was sitting on the sofa, got up and asked Donnie.

Jack Morgan was the first of Donnie’s business partners to co to Atlantic City, and his attitude could serve as a reference for how others might respond!

Donnie took off his coat and, smiling, said, “For such a big matter, Jack Morgan is definitely going to think carefully about it; he won’t give us an answer so quickly.”

Helen sighed and said, “I’m worried about two things right now. First, if Jack Morgan doesn’t give an exact reply, others might find out about this matter and then unite to put pressure on you.

Second, they might agree to your conditions on the surface but secretly use other ans to buy up the company’s stocks!”

Donnie, putting his arm around Helen’s shoulder, laughed and sat down on the sofa, “You’re stuck in a misconception here. The reason we’re not agreeing to their terms right now is that we’re considering their interests. If it turns out they actually use the second possibility you ntioned, then in this matter, we wouldn’t be deceiving them.

Then, even when we reclaim the company, they won’t have any reason to bla us!”

Helen pondered for a mont and agreed with Donnie’s statent, but she was still concerned and said, “Even if they have no reason, there will definitely still be so inner displeasure!”

Donnie nodded and said, “There’s nothing we can do about that. The most important thing is mutual trust. If there’s no trust, I can’t do anything either!”

As the two were chatting, soone burst in hurriedly.

At this mont, there was only one person who could be so unruly.

John Block!

“Finally got those people sorted out, I’m exhausted!”

John Block collapsed onto the sofa, with his hands draped on either side, and looked at Donnie and Helen, saying, “You guys carry on with your conversation, don’t mind !”

Helen, already accustod to John Block’s deanor, smiled and said, “Are you having dinner here tonight? I’ll have the kitchen prepare more!”

“Sure!” John Block replied bluntly.

Harlan got up and left.

Donnie looked at John Block helplessly and said, “Oh God, didn’t old Carl teach us when we were kids to give people private space?”

John Block stared blankly at Donnie and asked, “Did old Carl teach us that?”

“Didn’t he?”

“Did he?”

“Didn’t he?”

“Well…forget it, just tell why you’re here.” Donnie decided not to get tangled up with John Block about such matters, worrying it might lower his IQ!

John then said proudly, “Regarding the bootlegging alliance, I finally reached an agreent with those people. We are gradually withdrawing from the bootlegging alliance, and those people will establish an alliance outside the national family alliance to jointly manage the bootlegging business. From now on, we’ll only be responsible for supplying the bootleg liquor to them; nothing else. Additionally, their bootlegging alliance’s cash will continue to use the Breton Bank’s accounts!”

During this period, mob families from different Arican cities had been eting in Atlantic City just to discuss the Block Family’s withdrawal from the bootlegging alliance.

However, the Block Family was too deeply and broadly entwined with the bootlegging alliance, so even now, withdrawing was not such an easy task.

Firstly, those involved in the bootlegging alliance within the various levels of the Arican governnt were not willing to let Donnie withdraw.

Donnie’s solution to this was to use Breton Bank as a middleman, linking the interests between the family alliance and governnt officials.

The family alliance would be responsible for the production and sales of bootleg liquor, with two channels, and all the cash would flow into Breton Bank, transforming the proceeds from illicit to legitimate. Of course, during this process, Breton Bank would charge a certain fee.

Then Breton Bank would divide the money into three parts: one would naturally go to the mbers of the family alliance, the second to the governnt officials in their respective cities and states, and the third to the top-level personnel.

This arrangent effectively moved the Block Family from being the leader of the bootlegging alliance to a detached observer.

Even if the bootlegging alliance ended in the future, the Block Family would rely lose one business but would not face more trouble because of this matter.

Moreover, it freed up Breton Bank, and once people got used to using Breton Bank to manage their illicit money, they would also deposit profits from other ventures there.

Running a black market operation requires a reputation!

Of course, there was a downside as well, such as whether the people in the family alliance might start manipulating the accounts once they beca executors without oversight.

After all, human nature is greedy!

But this was not sothing Donnie needed to worry about, because in Donnie’s view now, the bootlegging alliance was no longer necessary for him. As soon as Prohibition was lifted, Donnie could imdiately use his connections in the White House to obtain a liquor production and sales license, turning black business into white.

The Block Family would benefit even more.
