Chapter 1436: Chapter 504: Soone Wants to Inform On Us_2
Thinking of this, Mayer Kaufman imdiately had an idea co to mind.
Douglas MacArthur may be physically in the Philippines now, but his status in the U.S. Army is very high.
His father, Arthur MacArthur, participated in the Civil War, the Spanish-Arican War, and even held the position of Commander of the U.S. Forces in the Philippines, a four-star general of the United States!
More importantly, Arthur MacArthur and Donnie Block’s father-in-law, William Howard Taft, had a very poor relationship!
As early as 1901, Arthur MacArthur was the Commander of the U.S. Forces in the Philippines, while William Howard Taft was the Governor of the Philippines.
The two had intense conflicts at that ti, and under such circumstances, Arthur MacArthur was transferred back to the country.
In 1906, Arthur MacArthur beca the Commander of the Pacific Division, while William Howard Taft beca the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army and the two continued to have nurous disputes.
At that ti, Arthur MacArthur could possibly have succeeded William Howard Taft as Chief of Staff of the Army, but William Howard Taft was elected President of the United States.
Naturally, it would have been impossible to appoint Arthur MacArthur as Chief of Staff!
Their feud ran deep.
After that, Arthur MacArthur beca despondent and eventually died suddenly while giving a speech to veterans of the Civil War.
Douglas MacArthur inherited his father’s political legacy, and in the U.S. Army, he ascended unfettered all the way up.
Upon his father’s death, Douglas MacArthur beca a mber of the staff under then-Chief of Staff of the Army, Leonard Wood.
After the outbreak of World War I, Douglas MacArthur was first sent to Veracruz, xico. The following year, he was promoted to Major, and the year after, he beca assistant to Chief of Staff and Secretary of War Newton Baker, while also serving as Army Press Censor.
In 1917, after the U.S. governnt joined World War I, personnel from National Guard units were drafted to form the 42nd Infantry Division. MacArthur was appointed the Chief of Staff of the 42nd Division, promoted to Colonel, and went to France to fight. He claid this division drew its personnel from all over the United States, spanning the skies like a rainbow, thus called the “Rainbow Division”.
When the war ended, soone deliberately erased so of Douglas MacArthur’s mistakes on the battlefield, making Douglas MacArthur the brightest new star in the U.S. Army.
After World War I, Douglas MacArthur was appointed by the then Chief of Staff of the Army as the Superintendent of West Point Military Academy, becoming the youngest superintendent in the history of West Point.
After finishing his work at West Point, Douglas MacArthur went to Manila to serve as the deputy to Governor Leonard Wood in the military administration of the Philippines.
Three years later, Douglas MacArthur was promoted to Major General, once again becoming the youngest Major General in the U.S. Army.
At that ti, Douglas MacArthur commanded the 3rd Corps area, successively serving as commander in Atlanta and Baltimore.
In 1927, Douglas MacArthur was appointed Chairman of the United States Olympic Committee and led the US delegation to the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam, where they won the championship.
Thereafter, Douglas MacArthur was reassigned as the Commander of the U.S. Forces in the Philippines.
This is a rising star in the U.S. Army!
Mayer Kaufman believed that such a person wouldn’t be easily swayed by Donnie!
“Alright, now the question is how I can deliver this letter to MacArthur!”
After deciding to hand the letter over to Douglas MacArthur, Mayer Kaufman started thinking about the next steps.
First, Mayer Kaufman didn’t trust ordinary mail delivery.
One reason was that he couldn’t be sure about the safety of such international correspondence.
The second was that he hoped Douglas MacArthur could promptly respond upon receiving the letter!
“Darling!”
Mayer Kaufman walked out of his study, finding his wife.
“Here I am!” Mrs. Kaufman got up from the sofa, looking at Mayer Kaufman with concern: “Darling, you really scared just now!”
With a solution now in hand, Mayer Kaufman’s gloomy expression disappeared, replaced by a smile.
“How is George’s business in the East going?”
Mrs. Kaufman was a bit taken aback, as her husband rarely inquired about her brother’s business in the East.
George Jones, Mrs. Kaufman’s brother.
Though Mayer Kaufman never joined the military, so of his students did, and one served in the U.S. forces stationed in the East. George Jones had used this connection to start doing business in the East.
“Very well, thanks to your students’ care, his business in the East is extrely successful!”
Mayer Kaufman nodded and asked, “When is he planning to head back to the East?”
Previously, George Jones had returned to the U.S. for business matters and was now at Fort Benning.
“It hasn’t been determined yet, is there sothing up?”
Mayer Kaufman said, “Not really, I just thought it’s been a long ti since I’ve seen him, why don’t you invite him over for dinner tomorrow?”
“That would be wonderful!” Mrs. Kaufman said excitedly.
.
The next day, George Jones ca to visit Mayer Kaufman at his ho.
After so pleasantries, while Mrs. Kaufman was cooking dinner, Mayer Kaufman led George Jones into his room.
“Mayer, is there a problem with the accounts?”
George Jones asked, knowing that Mayer Kaufman had a stake in his business in the East, though Mayer Kaufman wasn’t the shareholder in na.
“There’s no problem with the accounts!”
With a smile, Mayer Kaufman said, “The reason I called you here today is that I need you to do sothing for !”
“Helping you is my duty!” George Jones replied curiously, “Is it sothing important?”
“No!” Mayer Kaufman shook his head and smiled, “Nothing important, just so personal letters between and General MacArthur. You know how international mail is troubleso and unsafe now, so I hope you can personally deliver this letter to General MacArthur; he will instruct you on what to do!”
Mayer Kaufman didn’t distrust his brother-in-law, but this matter was very significant, requiring the utmost caution!
If he could leave, he definitely would have gone by himself!
“Alright, after I handle my business here in the U.S., rest at ho for a few days, I’ll head back and disembark in the Philippines!”
George Jones took the letter from Mayer Kaufman.
“No!” Mayer Kaufman said seriously, “If possible, I hope you can depart for the Philippines as soon as possible. Although the letter’s content isn’t crucial, General MacArthur wouldn’t want anyone to see it, understand?”
After speaking, Mayer Kaufman intently watched George Jones.
George Jones looked surprised, the letter’s content wasn’t important, yet he was urged to deliver it swiftly to General Douglas MacArthur and discreetly reminded not to look at it!
“Mayer, is the letter’s content sowhat… important?”
Mayer Kaufman sighed, “Alright, the content indeed is important, it’s about insider information regarding President Herbert Hoover forming his cabinet after this year’s election, which General MacArthur specifically reminded to watch out for before he left.
Whether I can leave the Infantry School and take up a real job in the military depends on this letter, you must help accomplish this!”
George Jones imdiately nodded, “So that’s how it is, rest assured, I will personally deliver this letter to General MacArthur!”
“Good!”
