Chapter 1308: Chapter 447: The Navy’s Stance (Part 2)
The voice on the other end of the phone, Major Bernard, didn’t expect Donnie’s words to be so direct.
But since the other party had made this call, they obviously were not willing to give up.
It had been said long ago that the U.S. military budget was not always at the forefront; it developed over a period of ti. During Harding’s tenure as President of the United States, he had signed treaties with several other countries to stop the arms race and also retired so battleships.
This led to the fact that the United States Navy wasn’t the wealthy entity it would be in later years; the current U.S. Navy was very clearly a pauper.
They had weapons, but they were paupers, a situation they naturally could not accept.
Thus, Major Bernard ca up with an idea: smuggling bootleg liquor!
If Arican businessn could smuggle bootleg liquor, why couldn’t their navy, especially since they had the most powerful weapons in Arican waters!
Once he had this idea, Major Bernard imdiately arranged for his trusted confidant, Jermaine Sara, to retire and join the Coast Guard.
And that’s how these current events unfolded.
“Mr. Block, you’re a big figure in the United States now; why care about these small dealings? They might affect your reputation, and actually we…”
Major Bernard wanted to negotiate with Donnie.
Donnie coldly interrupted Major Bernard: “Major Bernard, I’m asking you now whether you’re determined to protect Jermaine Sara.”
The tone on Major Bernard’s side paused, obviously not expecting Donnie to be so assertive.
The deed was done; they had just obtained $1,500,000 worth of bootleg liquor through a costless deal. In the face of such huge profits, Major Bernard could not let go of this lucrative opportunity!
“Mr. Block, you were just speaking to the captain of the valiant Florida-class battleship, mind your attitude!”
Slam!
Donnie hung up the phone; he had no interest in continuing the conversation with this person.
The Florida-class battleship entered service in 1911 and even took part in World War I, but during the war, the Florida-class battleships were rely substitutes for the USS Ohio and USS New York.
After World War I ended, they returned to the United States.
Unless sothing unexpected happened, the Florida-class battleship would officially retire in 1930 on another tiline!
“It seems they’re really determined to cash in on the bootlegging business!”
After hanging up, Donnie smiled and said to Samuels Spencer.
Samuels Spencer looked at the smile on Donnie’s face, feeling an inexplicable chill, sensing that Donnie was planning sothing!
“Mr. Block, although Bernard is just a major, he is still the captain of the Florida-class battleship and holds significant influence within the Navy!”
Donnie looked at Samuels Spencer and asked, “So, Mr. Spencer, are you thinking about changing your plan?”
Samuels Spencer didn’t answer Donnie’s question imdiately; he was silently analyzing the pros and cons of the situation in his mind.
Finding the direction that would benefit him the most!
After consideration, Samuels Spencer made a decision; although Bernard was influential, Samuels Spencer truly couldn’t see what force on Arican soil could resist the power of the Bootlegging Empire.
“Rest assured, Mr. Block, the Coast Guard’s pace will always remain in sync with yours!”
Donnie, hearing this, showed a satisfied smile.
“Good, Mr. Spencer, you’ve made the right choice!”
The two ended their conversation, and Samuels Spencer also ntioned that if he were to target Jermaine Sara, he would need to return to the Atlantic headquarters of the Coast Guard.
Donnie nodded and said, “After you go back, you can tell those Coast Guard higher-ups pleading for Jermaine Sara that starting this month, their share from the Bootlegging Empire is gone!”
In the Coast Guard, which covers all of the United States, everyone had two salaries: one from the U.S. Governnt and one from the Bootlegging Empire.
It was once joked among Coast Guard personnel that the salary from the U.S. Governnt was only for daily expenses, while the salary from the Bootlegging Empire was their livelihood.
Samuels Spencer pursed his lips, wanting to remind Donnie that doing so might easily blow things out of proportion since so of those people were district commanders and others were top officials at headquarters.
But seeing Donnie’s attitude now, Samuels Spencer knew that nothing he said would change it.
He couldn’t understand why these people insisted on provoking Donnie!
“Naturally, because of greed!”
After receiving Donnie’s call, Chris Kamp rushed to Donnie’s office imdiately. After learning what happened, Chris Kamp explained the actions of Major Bernard and Jermaine Sara.
“Here, on a shipnt worth $1,500,000, they can only get less than $50,000 in dividends. But if they do it themselves, they can keep all the profits from the $1,500,000 worth of bootleg liquor.”
“Hearing you say that, I’m almost tempted!”
John Block also ca to Donnie’s office.
Chris Kamp helplessly glanced at John Block, saying, “That’s not how the numbers add up. We’ve connected all the networks across the United States, and dostically, United States Logistics handles the shipnts, gangs in various cities handle the distribution, police departnts provide protection; every step costs money. Though they get a smaller cut, it’s safe, and they don’t need to do anything else. But now these people suddenly want to join in, without distribution, transportation, or protection in place. To put it bluntly, this $1,500,000 worth of bootleg liquor would be just a heap of waste water in their hands. I really can’t understand, didn’t they consider these matters before doing this?”
