At first, Seraphine took ti to get the information down but soon realized that Corvine was talking about Jasmine. His referring to her as red head almost made her burst out laughing. Corvine looked personally offended. "What?"

"You sound like a full-on wedding planner, and I totally don’t have anything against Jasmine. You don’t have to be too hard on her."

Corvine still couldn’t fully agree with that. To him, it was better to be safe than sorry, and until he knew Jasmine better, he wasn’t about to trust her completely

Still, he had no intention of dumping all that on Seraphine. It was enough that she finally had so peace. Besides, she’d been crashing the stock market and needed all the calm she could get.

Then another thought hit him hard, and his expression stiffened. "Actually..." Seraphine imdiately recognized that look. "What now?"

"You don’t have a maid of honor." The realization seed to really bother him. "We need to fix that, and I don’t know if Nicole would be the right fit for it."

Seraphine fell into deep thought. Nicole was a good woman. They’d worked together at the centenary pack, but she wasn’t going to be living with Nicole at the Grimroot pack house.

"Corvine, do you rember the saying about keeping your friends close and your enemies closer?"

Corvine caught on quick and frowned. "Don’t tell you’re actually considering Jasmine as your maid of honor."

Seraphine confird his suspicion with a nod. "Keeping her close would help get to know her better."

Corvine nodded, though it was clearly reluctant. "Fine." Then he rolled his eyes. "Besides, your man wants everything done imdiately."

The amusent in his voice was obvious. "Honestly, it amazes . Ravyn was so reluctant to marry you, only giving in because of his parents’ pressure about losing the pack. But now Voren’s rushing everything. It’s clear that the one who really loves you would do absolutely anything to keep you."

The saying felt so true, and Seraphine felt a deep, comforting warmth settle inside her. Her love might have blood late at twenty-six, but she still had so many good years ahead to enjoy it.

The morning flew by after that. Seraphine approved contracts, reviewed reports, checked financial statents, and examined the new gas Zane’s team had developed.

Hours later, she leaned back in her chair as a strange realization washed over her. The company didn’t need her nearly as much as it used to.

Everything was running so smoothly, so efficiently, and so perfectly, even when she was gone.

The thought should’ve bothered her, but instead it brought this huge, deep wave of relief crashing through her. A soft smile curled her lips. "I guess this gives the chance to spend way more ti at Grimroot after the Moon Festival."

Corvine nodded. "Not a bad idea at all."

Seraphine folded her hands together. "I want to get really familiar with the pack. Comfortable, you know? It’s gonna be my ho eventually." Corvine agreed right away.

"Sa here, and honestly, I like the pack better than the city. But wherever you are, that’s where I’ll be. Voren loves you, but I know he can’t always be around."

Seraphine was filled with so much warmth. Joining a new pack ca with its challenges, and she knew that was exactly why Corvine wasn’t even considering leaving her side at the Grimroot pack.

"Also, I heard the Grimroot pack was built from a huge rock. I’m still wondering how Voren managed to pull off sothing like that."

"Sa here," Seraphine agreed, smiling softly to herself. Voren was so smart, and she knew she could learn a ton from him.

"Thanks, Corvine, but I think Jasmine stayed behind not just because of Voren’s mother, but also because of you. I think she likes you," Seraphine said teasingly.

"Ha," Corvine scoffed. "I would’ve looked into that if it was the old , because her red hair kinda stands out. But after working with you like this, my taste in won has totally changed. I’m no longer interested in the traditional beauties. I want the ambitious ones like you."

Seraphine was left totally speechless, but she didn’t stop there. "I still think she can change with the right guidance. Her history says a lot. Most tis, I feel like she’s hiding her real self because she’s scared she might get kicked back into being a lone wolf."

Corvine nodded but didn’t say much about it. Seraphine thought about Esperanza and added, "The fact that Espe feels so comfortable around her says everything."

The statent made Corvine freeze, his hand stopping halfway to a file. A thoughtful look crossed his face. Indeed, Esperanza hadn’t liked the maids at the mansion from what he’d picked up during his short stay.

But the girl was completely comfortable around Jasmine. Could there be more to her than they thought?

Still, sothing more pressing stole his attention. "There was sothing I wanted to ask." Seraphine looked at him. He hesitated for a second, then asked, "Do you think it was the Moon Goddess? The woman I gave Espe to."

The room suddenly felt quieter and heavier. Seraphine didn’t even hesitate. "Yes, I think so too." Corvine blinked in surprise. "You’re certain?"

"As certain as I can be." She leaned forward a little. "Everything Esperanza described points straight to that. That’s also why she can’t say the woman’s na. She was told not to."

Corvine stayed silent for a few seconds before another thought hit him. "That’s exactly why we should send samples to other hospitals too."

Seraphine’s eyebrows pulled together. "You must have a good reason for that suggestion." Corvine lowered his voice. "If what Esperanza said is true, Coco might interfere with the results, if I understood her setting a trap correctly."

The possibility sent a chill through the whole room. Seraphine froze. Normally she would’ve brushed it off, but too many impossible things had already turned out to be real. She nodded slowly.

"In that case, I’ll give you separate samples before we leave." Corvine agreed right away.

"Good. Send them to other hospitals and follow up on the one Voren submits." Neither of them wanted to take any chances anymore.

Warmth filled Corvine’s chest. For the first ti in years, real answers finally felt within reach. He opened his mouth to speak, but never got the chance.

Seraphine’s phone suddenly rang. The screen lit up with Leon’s na. Her smile faded instantly.

The timing felt weird. Leon rarely called during work hours unless sothing serious had gone down. She answered right away. "Leon. Is there an ergency?"

The silence on the other end stretched a second too long. Then his voice ca through, rough, shaken, and almost disbelieving. "Sera..." A tight knot ford in her stomach. Sothing was very, very wrong. "How is this even possible?"
