Zara
He was still wearing his clothes from the previous night; his perfect hair was tousled, and the whites of his eyes were rimd with red.
He hadn’t slept a wink all night. The seriousness on his face faded slightly as I approached, but the tired look remained.
"I won’t lie, but you look terrible," I blurted out as soon as I was next to him. He wrapped both arms around my waist and hugged tightly, as if he were starving for my presence.
"I feel terrible, too, but my coffee is already here."
Unfazed by Kaysir’s presence, Alpha Kane pressed his lips to mine in a silent but tender kiss.
Like drops of water on petals, his lips danced on mine, slowly savoring them.
My hands settled on his rough back, and I gently stroked it, letting him savor it. The rapture of being in his arms shot through like fireworks.
Alpha Kane savored slowly, like black coffee. Finally, his lips parted, and he rested his forehead against mine. Closing his eyes, he murmured, "Well, good morning."
"Good morning to you, too. Why haven’t you slept, silly?" My tone held a hint of reproach.
His eyes slowly opened, their black pools seething with emotional need.
He replied in a tired voice, "There was so much to do, and still is."
"Sleep is important, Alpha. Let’s go." I grabbed his hand and pulled him toward the elevator. He eagerly ca over, but when he saw we were already at the elevator, he froze.
"We can take the stairs," he suggested, his voice sounding even more tired.
"No way, you need rest." The door opened, and with a deep breath, I stepped into this deadly trap with Alpha.
He gripped my hand tighter and pulled into his refuge. My head rested on his chest, listening to his calm heartbeat.

Closing my eyes, I remained in his fortress of safety until we reached the top floor.
As soon as the elevator clanked open, Alpha loosened his grip, and we both stepped out. He led straight to his office.
His desk was littered with folders, papers, invitations to the winter gala, and empty coffee cups. He slumped onto the sofa, looking completely exhausted. I sat quietly next to him and pulled out my tablet.
Alpha had already assigned today’s tasks.
He leaned against the sofa, staring at the ceiling, his hands behind his head. The muscles in his arms tensed under his dark shirt, and I was having trouble concentrating.
He began to speak.
"There are a few more things I want you to consider, Zara. First, under no circumstances should you be left alone. Kaysir will remain your shadow, and I will also be watching." His worried gaze darted to , and I nodded.
"Second, do not answer any questions from the dia or the press. Our dia departnt will handle that. Refer any overly enthusiastic reporters to them if they co looking for you." Covering his mouth with his hand, Alpha stifled a yawn. I’d never seen him so tired before.
"Okay, that’s it. You can’t work like this, and you definitely can’t attend today’s event," I announced, my forehead furrowing.
Grabbing my tablet and bag, I tried to get up from the couch, but he imdiately grabbed my hand. He asked desperately,
"Where are you going?"
"Nowhere, but you need to sleep. We can continue working as soon as you’re refreshed." Who is the Alpha of many packs and the CEO of this multi-billion-dollar company blinked modestly and asked,
"Can I sleep on your lap?" The innocence on his face at that mont hid the severity of his features.
Every instinct in wanted to jump into his lap and cuddle up to him, let him lie on my chest, and kiss his graceful lips.
I once again forgot about the danger that tornted whenever I got too close to Alpha Kane Sterling.
I quietly plopped down next to him and pointed to my lap. "No nonsense, just sleep."
He placed his hand on his heart and said with a stony face. "I promise."
I opened my arms, and he gently laid his head on my lap. My hands rested on his shoulder and head.
I muttered lingeringly. "Sleep."
He imdiately closed his eyes.
Only a few seconds passed, and I heard his soft snores, revealing how tired he must be. The thought of telling him what I’d hidden deep inside. He had a lot to do, and I wasn’t about to bother him.
At least, not today.
Whatever that idiot has planned, I can handle it. I promised myself and resolutely began running my fingers through Kane’s silky hair.
He slept like a baby. His face was so peaceful; all the previous tension had lted away. Alpha’s legs hung slightly over the edge of the sofa, even though he was bent at the knees.
I couldn’t take my eyes off him; he had pierced my heart, and I knew I was finished. No matter what I told myself, the truth was, I had fallen in love with him.
How long could I hide this from him? Break the contract after the Winter Gala? Co up with so excuse to say I was looking for a serious relationship.
Would it even work?
My pounding, constantly aching heart protested. He wrapped his arms around my waist and moved closer, burying his face in my stomach. He muttered sothing incoherent, but I didn’t understand. He buried his nose in my soft skin, falling asleep again.
His actions made wonder if he felt anything for beyond lust.
"You’re choosing to dance with disaster, Zara," I reminded myself, taking a deep breath and staring at his barely visible face. It hurt like hell.
Putting my hand on his face, I leaned back on the couch, throwing my head back and staring at the ceiling of his office.
I had no idea how much ti had passed when the office door suddenly swung open. I frantically searched for who had entered without permission.
