The tension in the pack had beco palpable. The scent of fear and anticipation lingered in the air, an unspoken reminder that the rogue threat was far from over. As Alpha Eric doubled down on preparations, a dark realization weighed on his mind: soone within the pack was working against them.
It was more than a hunch now. Too many coincidences, too many close calls. The rogues’ knowledge of the pack’s defenses, patrol routes, and even their strategies was uncanny. Eric could no longer ignore the possibility that there was a traitor in their midst.
The Council’s Directive
Eric called an ergency council eting. The elders gathered in the dimly lit chamber, their faces lined with concern. Ella sat beside him, her presence a steadying force amid the turmoil.
"We have a mole," Eric said without preamble.
The room erupted into murmurs of disbelief and outrage.
"Impossible," Thomas declared. "Our pack has always been united!"
Margaret, the elder who had first ntioned Malric’s son, leaned forward. "Unity is fragile under pressure. Fear can make even the strongest wolf betray their kin."
Eric raised a hand, silencing the room. "We can’t afford denial. The rogues are too precise in their attacks. Soone is feeding them information, and we need to find out who before it’s too late."
Ella spoke up, her voice calm but firm. "We should keep this investigation secret. If the traitor knows we’re onto them, they’ll cover their tracks."
The council nodded in agreent, their eyes heavy with the weight of the task ahead.
Unseen Whispers
As the council dispersed, Eric summoned Daniel, Aria, and a few trusted warriors to his office.
"We need to root out this traitor," Eric said. "Discreetly."
Daniel’s face hardened. "I’ll start questioning the patrols. Soone might have seen or heard sothing."
Aria, who had been quietly observing, spoke up. "What about the rogue we captured last week? He might know sothing."
Eric had almost forgotten about the rogue. The prisoner had been locked in the dungeon, his information deed unreliable due to his defiance.
"It’s worth a shot," Eric said. "Aria, you’re with . Daniel, keep things under control out here."
Interrogating the Rogue
The dungeon was cold and damp, the air thick with the scent of stone and despair. The rogue was chained to the wall, his fur matted and his eyes defiant even in the face of captivity.
Eric stepped forward, his presence commanding. "You have one chance to save yourself. Tell who’s feeding you information about my pack."
The rogue smirked. "Why would I do that? Death is preferable to betrayal."
Aria stepped closer, her gaze steady. "You’re already a traitor to your kind. What’s one more betrayal?"
The rogue’s smirk faltered, but he said nothing.
Eric’s patience wore thin. "We can make your life very unpleasant," he growled, his voice low and threatening.
The rogue hesitated, his resolve wavering. Finally, he spoke. "You think you’re invincible because you’re Alpha. But you have cracks in your foundation. Soone close to you is helping us. Soone you trust."
Eric’s fists clenched. "Who?"
The rogue only chuckled. "Find out yourself."
Frustrated, Eric signaled for the guards to take the rogue away.
As they left the dungeon, Aria glanced at her father. "What if he’s right? What if it’s soone we trust?"
Eric’s jaw tightened. "Then we’ll deal with them."
Shadows in the Pack
The next few days were a tense blur of activity. Daniel’s investigations turned up little, but Eric’s instincts told him they were closing in on the truth.
Aria, determined to help, spent her nights in the archives, poring over old records and maps to find any clue that might lead them to the traitor or the rogue leader.
One night, she found herself joined by Mia, the tracker who had survived the scouting mission with her.
"Can’t sleep either?" Mia asked, sitting beside her.
Aria shook her head. "I keep thinking about what the rogue said. It could be anyone."
Mia nodded, her expression grim. "It’s hard to trust when betrayal is a possibility. But we can’t let paranoia tear us apart."
Aria looked at her friend, appreciating her quiet strength. "Thanks, Mia. I needed to hear that."
The Betrayer Revealed
The breakthrough ca unexpectedly. One of the patrols reported unusual activity near the southern border. Eric, Daniel, and a group of warriors rushed to investigate, leaving Aria and Ella to oversee the packhouse.
As they scouted the area, Eric’s sharp senses picked up a familiar scent—a scent that didn’t belong.
"Wait," he said, holding up a hand. "Do you sll that?"
Daniel sniffed the air, his eyes narrowing. "That’s... no. It can’t be."
They followed the scent trail to a secluded clearing, where they found one of their own warriors—Marcus—handing over a map to a rogue scout.
Eric’s fury was imdiate. "Marcus!"
The rogue bolted, but Daniel was faster, tackling him to the ground. Marcus froze, his face pale as he turned to face his Alpha.
"I can explain," Marcus stamred.
"Start talking," Eric growled, his voice deadly.
Marcus’s shoulders slumped. "They threatened my family. They said they’d kill them if I didn’t help. I didn’t have a choice!"
Eric’s anger was tempered by a sliver of understanding. "Why didn’t you co to ?"
Marcus shook his head. "I was scared. I thought... I thought they’d spare us if I did what they wanted."
Eric’s eyes softened, but his voice remained firm. "You betrayed your pack, Marcus. That’s not sothing I can overlook."
Marcus dropped to his knees. "Please, Alpha. I’ll do anything to make it right."
Eric considered him for a mont. "You’ll help us take them down. If you’re lying, you won’t live to regret it."
Preparing for the Final Battle
Back at the packhouse, Marcus revealed everything he knew. The rogue leader, Malric’s son, had been operating from a hidden base deep in the forest. The attacks were a diversion, ant to weaken the pack before the final assault.
"We don’t have much ti," Marcus said. "They’re planning to strike during the next full moon."
Eric wasted no ti. He called a eting with his top warriors and the elders, outlining a plan to take the fight to the rogues.
"We’ll strike first," Eric said. "If we wait for them to attack, we’ll lose too many lives."
The pack rallied around their Alpha, their unity stronger than ever despite the betrayal.
A Father and Daughter
As the pack prepared for war, Eric found Aria in the training grounds, practicing with her dagger.
"You’ve grown so much," he said, watching her with pride.
Aria looked at him, her eyes fierce. "I’m ready to fight, Dad. I won’t let them hurt our pack."
Eric nodded, his heart swelling with emotion. "I know. And I couldn’t be prouder of you."
They stood together, father and daughter, as the moon rose high above them. The storm was coming, but they would face it together.
